Nico to start the bowl game? Confirmed

Speaking of Austin...

Remember when the Austin Peay game was supposed to be the start of The Nico Show? I think how this game progresses will determine how much we see of Nico.

I expect something like the Vanderbilt game. Joe plays 3.2 quarters and then Nico comes in.

Side note: Iowa won't score as many points against us as Vandy.

Unfortunately, I do remember that. I hope he has a better performance against Iowa and we get to see more of Nico. But I also think we will play to win the game. And if it's close and they feel like they need to keep Joe in, then I think that should come as a surprise to pretty much none of us.

Once Joe gets his 4th TD I think Nico will come in...and if Joe doesn't get 4 TDs. I doubt Nico plays.

The only non-blowout/non-injury illness scenario I can see Nico playing is if Milton is downright terrible. Like worst he's ever looked and we're losing or especially if somehow Iowa is up a few scores and threatening to pull away. I can see that being the moment they switch over.

Milton is what he is at this point. Some team will take a chance on him based on his arm alone. I don't think his performance in this game is going to move the meter at all, no matter how he plays great or terrible. He's already proven he's wildly inconsistent and one game isn't going to fix that.

I just had Jackson Ross on my podcast, and I specifically asked him about this. He said Joe is absolutely playing.

Milton will start and play most the game. If Nico did start and look great you would have ppl second guessing Heupel’s decision to start Milton all year. Heupel will do what he can for Milton to put a solid performance together and hopefully get Joe drafted.

Im not 2nd guessing it. Apart of the agreement for Nico was to come in and redshirt.

Maybe I can understand Joe going first but you have to play Nico early and most of the game. Not doing so would be idiotic.

Iowa is proven as a good defense. Your point about competition level is fair but they get to the QB, cause turnovers and stop the run. Michigan scored less than 30 points twice this season. 24 to Penn State and 26 to Iowa. Do you have any idea how hard it is to hold a team like that to 26 points when your offense can't even get in field goal ATTEMPT range? how you say teams that scored 37 points a game Michigan and Penn State are not proficent offenses makes me wonder how you define one. UT only averaged 32... so what does that make us? They sacked Michigans QB 4 times...thats more than OSU and Penn State got combined against them.

Their defense is legit and underestimating them is silly. Their offense is a whole different story. If you wanna start him at Safety go ahead he will likely get 50 tackles defending them alone. I do not think it will be the best defense we have seen all year but it will be in the top3 or 4 we have seen. Also, they have no defenders of note I have seen in the portal.

What Bowl game that's not part of the National Championship has the out going starting QB for the season from a top tier school been pulled early so that the next year QB plays most of the game?

I'll hang up and listen.

I believe it will be a tale of two halves. Rocket Joe will start and bring in Nico in the second half... Everyone gets their shot.

I think Iowa may have the #2 pass defense in the country. I know they're a lot tougher than people think.

Granted "SEC speed" vs the B1G should help us and maybe we'll see Joe get to throw some fly routes that help his draft stock. That would be fun and I'm sure Heupel and Co are clocking the Iowa secondary on film vs or WRs.

I'm hoping for a fun day for Joe. He deserves it near his home, but if Nico airs one or two out also, I'll be really excited.

I have gotten excited four times this year already when Tennessee put in Nico. And each of this four times, I have wound up let down when he only gets five or six snaps before we yanked him for Gascon. Either give the kid meaning reps or else don’t risk injury.

How should this play out - We are up big by half time, Joe plays the 1st series of the 2nd half so he can get the standing O he deserves when replaced by Nico. Then it's all nico the rest of the game whether he's playing well or not...time to grow up kid.

How will it play out - we have greatly underestimated Iowa's defense and can't get out of our own way again on the road, so it's a lot closer at half time than anyone wants. Joe stays in the entire game to give us the best chance at winning.
