Milton wasn't the issue. As much as I hate it Nico just ain't that good YET. It's going to take a while based on what I saw at the game last night. I'm not going to regurgitate everything that's already (I'm sure) been posted on this board.
Here's my issue with it and why I had higher expectations.
1. 8 million dollar top shelf QB recruit
2. A supposed "quarterback whisperer" as a head coach
We aren't talking about a 5th year transfer like Milton. I never had high hopes for that guy. This was supposed to be special with Nico. The perfect storm of a highly converted QB and a coach that was a former QB and is supposed to be a guru with them
Anyway there's no way Nico goes pro early. He needs way more work. He can get there I'm sure but I expected him to not look like Milton 2.0 ever in his career.
That's all I'll say in it. Bring on Bama.
You’d be saying different if we had an OL that could pass block. He’ll be fine. Expect big portal year on OL.As much as I hate it Nico just ain't that good YET. There's a team down in Tuscaloosa, and another in Athens, and yet another in Norman; all wearing a uniform color more to your liking. Pick one and root for it. History is spotted with disappointed people who ASSumed someone was a savior, a god in human form, resurrected Arthur, or some prophesized hero or another. Then when such a person didn't, especially, immediately, live up to their expectation, accused them of being demon spawn, fakes, failures, pretenders, and worse. And here you are.As much as I hate it Nico just ain't that good YET. It's going to take a while based on what I saw at the game last night. I just wonder if a little bench time might help. Our backup has shown more ability to find secondary targets or optional plays when the prim is not open. Not saying "bench" him, just give him some time to see things a little better. This is done all the time in basketball. Why not try it before Nico becomes a bust.As much as I hate it Nico just ain't that good YET. It's going to take a while based on what I saw at the game last night. He's 6 games in and struggling. Folks had him pegged for an early draft entry, natty's and heistmans. Now we're proclaiming him a 4 year guy? Manning started slowly and he would have been a top pick after his junior season. Just a tad premature to say there's "no way" he goes pro early. It's not like he won't improve with experience, and there's no way to know how long that maturation process will take or how good he'll actually turn out to be. You can say the same thing about Heard. Way too early to know if he's a boom or bust kinda player. As much as I hate it Nico just ain't that good YET. Welcome to the dark side. Feel free to roam among the boards and make yourself at home.People better come back down to earth. If we keep playing like we did the last 2 games there could be 4 or more losses by the end of the season. Most teams left on our schedule won't be as inept as Florida was Sat.
Agree, Bryce Young and Tua were much better as freshman than NicoThere were comparisons of Bryce Young and Tua Tagavaloa.
Young was awesome as a RS Freshman. Tua didn’t RS and made huge plays in the NC game as a true freshman. Had a huge sophomore year.
Both guys in their 2nd years were at the head of the table.
Here’s my problem:
I expressed this concern in spring of 2024. Nico was bigger and faster than he was in HS. But his natural ability to feel the game had seem to diminish from HS.
Just watch his HS tape. He’s NOT staring down WRs. He’s reading the defense quickly and delivering the ball. He only ran for 300 yards as a SR. Are defenses more advanced in college.?
OF COURSE.
But Bryce Young and Tua had to play against those same type of defenses. Especially Bryce in college didn’t have the supporting cast that Tua had…or Nico imo . (Bru, Thornton, Brazzell, Davis, Sampson, we have legit weapons)
So wtf happened?
I’m saying Nico was equally as advanced as both of those guys coming out of HS.
So what’s going on???
Halzle…
I watch him coach Nico and he’s always talking to him after every rep. There’s a such thing as over coaching.
Nico’s instincts and feel are not there anymore. That’s what made him great.
Nico is 2nd guessing every read he sees and never throws it. So then he focuses on one dude determined to feed him and the defense reads his eyes…PICK.
This is BS. He has been on campus and immersed in the playbook for 22 months now. He should have a better grasp of the playbook than anyone on the team by now. With the knowledge he should have, he should be able to know where his open receivers are or his hot route options. We don't see any level of this knowledge displayed on most Sat afternoons/nights.So standing on a sideline instead of playing makes him a lot more prepared? He's a freshman
