If we want to compare Nico's RS freshman year to Bryce Young's soph year, I'm game. All things considered Nico probably had more actual playing time in 2023, than Young had in 2020 as well.

I'll start by saying it's an awfully high bar. I don't think we can expect such excellence from him. Have we ever had that sort of excellence from a UT QB? Maybe Peyton. Maybe. But here's the big thing: Young had the best talent in the nation to work with. Nico has 17th. His O-line is probably far below that

He's nowhere near as good as Bryce Young. Don't know if he ever will be. I do think he'll improve. If I'm wrong then we need to look in a different direction in 2025 and beyond.
We shouldn't. I never suggested that. For your convenience, here's what I said:Why would we compare Nico' true freshman year to Bryce Young's sophomore year?
He needs work, but way too premature to say he will be here as a senior. Nico could develop by next year and be on his way to the NFL draft, which is what I think will happen. I don't think his struggles are all his fault, but I do however think he is holding the ball too long on some plays or giving up on a pass play and trying to create something that is not there. Hoping decision making and a quicker release finds its way to him.As much as I hate it Nico just ain't that good YET. It's going to take a while based on what I saw at the game last night. I'm not going to regurgitate everything that's already (I'm sure) been posted on this board.
Here's my issue with it and why I had higher expectations.
1. 8 million dollar top shelf QB recruit
2. A supposed "quarterback whisperer" as a head coach
We aren't talking about a 5th year transfer like Milton. I never had high hopes for that guy. This was supposed to be special with Nico. The perfect storm of a highly converted QB and a coach that was a former QB and is supposed to be a guru with them
Anyway there's no way Nico goes pro early. He needs way more work. He can get there I'm sure but I expected him to not look like Milton 2.0 ever in his career.
That's all I'll say in it. Bring on Bama.

Against Arkansas, you did see the downfield lineman that meant Nico could not throw the ball?As much as we're being critical of Nico, anyone see the end of the Ohio State-Oregon game on Saturday? Will Howard, OSU's QB, is a 5th year senior and has played in 40 games...he made a very similar judgment error to what Nico did vs Arkansas. It happens.
Both Nico and Joe have one thing in common. Bad OL protection. Until we get that, it will be hard to improve. As much as I hate it Nico just ain't that good YET. Bc for years now he shows up when we are good, unrealistically talks us up, then when we don’t meet his irrational expectations he makes a thread flaming the team, flaming the coaches, claiming he’s only a fan when we are good etc. Never owns up when he’s wrong about a prediction, I could write a book about why he’s a troll but I’ll stop thereWhy do you say he's a troll? To be clear I'm not disagreeing. I'm just curious why you call him a troll.
Preach. Clamored and begged for Nico last year now ready to throw him out like scraps for a dogWhat I’m finding quite humorous right now is seeing all the folks that were convinced he should have replaced Milton last year now all of a sudden saying he isn’t worth the money.
Honestly I think it starts on the OL. Not only are they letting pressure through, but even when Nico has a good scramble or makes a good long pass it gets called back for holding or ineligible receiver down field. That’s gotta be shaking his confidence.
Enlighten us on what hot routes have been called except the last couple possessions against Florida at all this year ? We run everything 15 to 20 yards down field if it isn't the tunnel to the wide outThis is BS. He has been on campus and immersed in the playbook for 22 months now. He should have a better grasp of the playbook than anyone on the team by now. With the knowledge he should have, he should be able to know where his open receivers are or his hot route options. We don't see any level of this knowledge displayed on most Sat afternoons/nights.
That kid had so much talent on that team it was unfair. His OL was dominant and he was hardly ever touched. Plus he had freaking amazing wr's for the college game and arguably the best defense that season. We don't have that OL or those WR. We have a good group sometimes. He's talking about Bryce's redshirt freshman year, which is what Nico is also in now. Bryce won the Heisman and took his team to the national championship game. Probably the greatest freshman season ever, outside of maybe Jameis Winston or Michael Vick (redshirt freshman). Far more 5 star quarterbacks coming out of high school aren't as good as those three right out of the gate.
Yes, you get it. It's a team sportThat kid had so much talent on that team it was unfair. His OL was dominant and he was hardly ever touched. I'm not trashing Nico, I'm defending him. There are people here who will tell you point blank that they were expecting Bryce Young production from him, Bryce had probably the best freshman season ever in the 90+ year history of the conference. I think that's unfair to Nico. I thought it was unfair preseason and I think it's unfair to put that on him now. That kid had so much talent on that team it was unfair.
