I hope all these people that like posts saying Strong may stay at UL are happy when they have to google the next coach.

I agree. If the offers to all of those average coaches fall through and we don't get Gruden I think we're doomed to be irrelevant for a while.

Unless he has an ace in the hole that no one knows about we will be getting another subpar hire. Even if the person is a good coach it won't matter because they can't compete in the SEC recruiting game without name recognition.

Dooley landed top 15 classes with no name recognition or results. If they are a good coach the results will show on the field and recruiting will pick-up but it'll will be a longer process.

Saying that if Hart doesn't have an ace in the hole and ends-up with a sub par hire then he is clearly incompetent and dropped the ball, along with our power boosters, on the most important hire in TN history to date.

I believe Gundy will bail on us and it looks like Strong will from the reports. Who does that leave?? Fedora? Butch Jones? This is insane. We are screwed!!

I would love to hang on to the hope that something fishy is goin on. Not much real media coverage, no decision on juniors, not much with recruiting, and absolutely nothing from our beloved AD. But I really wonder if our job has just become so risky that nobody wants it.....no matter how much we will pay. I mean my gosh, we cant even woo charlie strong from louisville without him "sleeping on it."

I don't think that is fair. Every candidate would "sleep on it" or should. It's a major career decision that will affect him and his family for the rest of his life.

Its getting nasty in K Town. Im wondering where all the orange has gone here in the Nooga. Sick of all these Bama bandwagon freeks. You would think we actually lived in Alabama. Unreal. We are on the border of irrelevance.

I'm from Chatty, too. Only in the summers, though. I go to school up here in L'ville. Every day in the summer I go to work and there's FAR more Bama crimson than Tennessee orange. A truly sad sight.

I can appreciate that but 10 yrs ago his press conference would have went somethinh like this:
Well hell yeah Im going to TN. I means its TN. I appreciate my opportunity here but this is an absolute dream of coaches everywhere.

Sadly thats no longer the case. JMO

Yeah I agree with you that we may still get decent recruiting classes but it's only getting harder for us with these terrible seasons we're having.

I also agree it will take more time for recruiting to pick up but our fan base is incredibly impatient now so our next coach may not have a lot of time.

What is the facination with sweater vest? We all used to make fun of him, and now some of you guys want him?

I don't understand the fascination either. Always thought he was overrated. Ohio State should not have won title over Miami except for a terrible penalty call. Would he still be wanted with no NC? Would Fulmer have been fired sooner without his one NC? We are a hard job and have fallen on hard times. I think the conference intimidates some now. Maybe we have to scale back and find a TN grad in coaching and go the Majors route? This obviously is not working.

Well, probably some truth to that. These guys aren't 18yr old recruits or simple-minded fans. They know were TN has been and what it can be. They're not dumb. They know we have all the tangible and intangible requirements to be successful.

edit: I wasn't calling you or anyone simple-minded. More of a generality for the unrealistic and doomsday fans.

Amen to all of yall. We used to be the measuring stick. I cant believe we fell this far this fast. Bad administration or what? IDK

This this this. Just posted this over in the football forum. How sad is it that the coach of Louisville, a BIG EAST SCHOOL, is (apparently) turning us down? And that he was merely using us to get a pay raise? US, TENNESSEE, BEING USED AND TURNED DOWN BY A BIG EAST COACH.

Nobody wants to come here. It's a fact. Nobody wants to freaking come here. I'm preparing for a decade of irrelevance. Just bracing for the worst. Not a NegaVol, just a fan looking for some hope and finding nothing.

We're so low right now I think fans would be excited to see a competent coaching decisions to be made. If our defense looks better and we're not throwing verticals on 3rd and short I'll feel better about the coaching.

This is such a critical hire. Im sure all the powers-that-be (manning, haslam, etc.) have done what they can, but its sad to think that when we absolutely, positively HAVE to get it right we are forced to bet the farm on an unproven candidate.

I haven't lived here long, but it is sickening to see. I didn't think it would be this bad.

If that proves to be true then yes. We just don't know yet though. I think it aligns with our bad luck. The coaching pool was very weak this year. Very few up and comers out there like Sumlin, Kelly, Meyer, etc in the lower-ranks. Maybe it has something to do with the fact so many schools are more committed to their football programs now because of the cash they can generate.

Its unreal man. Bunch of bandwagon hoppers in the Nooga now. But it just shows how far we have fallen. Dooley has to be in the top 5 of ALL FRIKIN TIME for coaches who done the most damage to a program. His 3 years set us back more than Lame's one year and bolt.

They just started a new league(American football) this year in India. So I doubt they have anyone...
Its called EFLI (Elite football league of India)

On the coaching search... Gruden, Fisher, Fedora, Strong, Jones... At this point anyone would do... just finish the damn thing....
It has started to get to my nerves...

Me..............tooo!!!!

You're probably right. I know I would feel better and I'm going to support whoever it is and get excited no matter what until I'm given a reason to not be excited.

Without some of those unbelievably bad calls that you mentioned, we would have several more wins in the past couple of years. A coach that is simply not a moron could make a huge difference as long as we can bring enough talent to compete.
