I think there needs to be a governing body of football and basketball to maintain the integrity of the game. Maybe a relevant/revised version of the NCAA. People have talked a long time about schools leaving the NCAA and forming their own governing body. I don’t know exactly what that would like, but it I think for the long term, betterment of the sport there needs to something that keeps everyone in check. Or at least pretends to.
The NIL changes nothing other than schools can be open about paying players.
I'm wondering how much harder this will be for head coaches to keep players making gpa to play. I'm sure it's hard enough just competing against social life and general lack of interest in class, but I bet a lot of players will be more worried about making that $$$ than getting in study time.
Which leads me to other questions but they may be premature.
The way money is getting thrown around, I believe now more than ever that this will result in more even distribution of talent. Why would a 5-star QB go sit the bench in Columbus when he can be starting in Knoxville? Why would somebody risk not being a top 20 player in Tuscaloosa when he can be a top 3 player in Oxford?
It’s funny you mentioned that because everyone keeps focusing on the negative unintended consequences (myself included), but I think there could also be some big unintended positives that take place. The way money is getting thrown around, I believe now more than ever that this will result in more even distribution of talent. For a mature person or someone getting good guidance it probably will. That's a funny way of looking at it. I figure they now have more incentive than ever to get an adequate GPA.

I'm just looking at it as one more thing competing for a college athlete's time. Team commitments (practices, games, workouts), school commitments (classes, studying), social life, and now financial deal commitments(social media, in person appearances, ect) added in to what was probably already a pretty full schedule.

It’s also funny how so many think the female athletes, many with six and even seven figure followers on social media aren’t cashing in from thisPeople fear the unknown, and some fans feel as if their losing “control” of what they’re watching unfold, as if they had any control to begin with, or as if money hasn’t been changing hands under the table for decades.
And some fans are just flat out jealous and petty at the prospect of players getting paid.
