NLDS: Reds vs. Phillies

Pretty much every Braves fan from 1991 til 2003. That's why I so enjoyed watching Eric Gregg call guys out on pitches that landed in the first base dugout against Livan Hernandez in the 1997 NLCS.
That went beyond payback. That was without a doubt the worst day behind the plate I've ever seen.

That's a matter of perspective. I found it inspiring. Watching a team whose success was built on umpires playing favorites wailing and whining when the tables got turned was magnificnent.

Your not going to hurt my feelings or get a reaction from me by throwing up random Braves debacles...trust me, I know them, I lived those moments.

My point was that a lousy strike zone was not the culprit tonight for not being able to scrape across one lousy hit in the biggest game for your, franchise/city/massive fan base of good baseball fans, in recent memory.

The strike zone had nothing to do with. The best pitcher in the game had his A stuff. Ask the Marlins, a pretty decent offensive team, what can happen in that situation.

In the end, the Braves kept trotting out neutered lineups with a bunch of RBI fear and got their asses handed to them. Pitching was probably enough to win. Gift to Leyritz ended it.

I don't know about that being the basis for success, but there's no doubt Glavine and Maddux worked and stretched the strike zone better than anybody.

Nix will start in place of Gomes in game 2. Hopefully Dusty learned his lesson in the first game and will go with something more like the lineup I proposed in the Reds thread. There is absolutely no reason Phillips should be hitting leadoff, and no reason Jay Bruce should be hitting anywhere but 5th. If it were me, the lineup tomorrow would go

Stubbs
Phillips
Votto
Rolen
Bruce
Hernandez
Nix
Cabrera

And the Reds can take some consolation in the fact that even if they choke, they will be hard-pressed to choke as hard as the Rays.

Hell, I'd think pretty hard about hitting Bruce second in front of Votto. He has a good OBP and would get some pitches to hit in front of Votto.

But I thought the Reds were going to get shut out through 27 innings?
