No More Tweeting for Donny

Just so you know I fixed a typo in my prior post. I don’t think you took it as a slight against you but I adjusted it to be more clear.

Anyway, a few months ago I found myself wondering if folks like Levin, Limbaugh, Maddow, and Lemon were just slinging a bunch of hyperbole but things just seem to keep escalating. Some of it is because of the MSM sensationalism on both sides but I don’t think it is just that at this point. We will certainly find out with the Dems in complete control. I’m of the camp that thinks it’s best not to have either party in complete control.

No offense at all, I knew what you meant.

I'm an old guy. Degree in Political Science. Spent a lot of time in DC in the late 60's and early 70's protesting Nixon and the war. Experienced a lot of heads getting bashed(mainly nazis...LMAO). And got roughed up a few times at George Wallace rallies. And now...I fear for my country.

I fear for our country as well. Maybe for different reasons than you.

But this is inevitable.

yeah, sure our reasons are different grand. But I can only hope. Many of my friends and even family have recently told me that they think I am over reacting to recent turn of events, I don't freaking think so!

How did you react to the riots over the summer? Not trolling, honestly curious.

In a word...discouraged. Violence is not acceptable. I've personally witnessed "outside agitators" even back in the 60s and 70s. However, I also understand the BLM movement. If anyone can look me in the face and tell me that Blacks have not been murdered by LEOs for little or no reason, then I question their humanity. Are there factions of BLM that need to be outed and prosecuted? Absolutely! IMO...our society has turned into a "always black or white" mentality. No either or, maybe/maybe not. The lines have been drawn. And that's why I said that I fear for OUR Country. My thought process is also being influenced by "Bushmills". I'm Irish!

Kind of went in reverse, haven't we? We're as separated as we were in the early 60s.

Thanks for the reply - always good to get someone’s point of view to be able to have a genuine discussion.

My concerns are that the problems are being completely misrepresented by the media and big tech (e.g. Google search results, social media trends) compared with reality.

I haven’t seen much of any genuine discussion of what really happened in Kenosha with Jacob Blake and the subsequent rioting.

Blake was armed with a knife and the officer was cleared of wrongdoing. The media poured gas on a fire in their coverage. It’s criminal - think about the people who lost their lives or businesses over that incident.

It’s very troubling. Especially when a large number of people believe whatever they’re told by their name brand news outlet.

It is troubling to say the least. Your last sentence says it all aj.

Crazy ain't it? I was a hippie and you were military right?

Yep.

Here's the thing, I'm about as anti-war these days as you can get. Not because I don't believe in fighting for the defense of our country, but because I don't believe in fighting for something without a clear end. I.E. Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq. I fully supported going into Iraq in 2003 and finishing what we should have done in 91. I did not approve of the aftermath. Nor the nearly 20 years we've been in Afghanistan. I sure as hell didn't think we needed to be involved in Syria.

Now, I'll support our troops all day long, but since WWII we've never had a clear objective and I don't believe in the current fights. One thing I'm perfectly happy with was Trump not starting anything new in the last four years. Call it a minor victory, but the man kept us out of conflict and set us on a path to eventually withdraw from Afghanistan.

We’ve been lulled into laziness. My parents and grandparents never questioned what was being reported. It was assumed to be factual.

We’re so busy with life and the internet has nearly ended newspapers and made the reach of network and cable TV news much less - there are hundreds of options for information online.

You’re not limited to Dan Rather, Peter Jennings or Tom Brokaw.

The news corporations have sold their integrity out for ratings. I think 80-90% of the political news is biased. It’s just obvious if you can be objective about it.

We should all be concerned about who owns these corporate media outlets and ultimately controls what information is allowed to be reported.

In complete agreement grand. And I must admit the only thing I give trump credit for is getting the hell out of Afghan. Hopefully that happens. But the hawks in congress will find something else to appease the military industrial complex. We both know that truth.

Hey, remember when everyone said he was going to start a war in like his first two months?

Yeah, those were the good times.

Absolutely. My politics are obvious but try my best to determine the facts...whether I like the results or not. IMO, the problem(and you agree) is that the majority of Americans don't take the time to discover the truth. The truth is out there! Sorry...big Xfiles fan.

I think his approach to peace in the Middle East of getting Israel to form peace agreements with individual countries could be the beginning of something amazing.

Long way to go, but a great start IMO.

Hopefully they don't. Would love to know Iran's true nuclear capabilities. Have any CIA contacts?

No, lol. I did have a pretty good ME contact at one point who let me know little tidbits here and there.

Regardless, there will be a power void in the Middle East after the inauguration.

Power void in the world really.
