No QB in this class as of right now....

Take his running ability out of the equation, he won't beat out Stephens or Crompton IMO.

He may not beat out Stephens, I think he could be the guy.
I may could give Crompton a run for his money. Crompton looked as lost in the last game as he did in the first one.

Coleman was in an option/spread type offense in HS, if I am not mistaken. They did pass, but I think it was played off the option or spread.

I don't think you have to be a great running QB to run the spread. A lot of it is decision making. Heck for that matter Peyton looking good running in his HS films.

Video done by the Vol Network "Peyton Manning Portrait of a Champion".
Done in 1998 (I think)
Nice video, gives U a little more in depth look at his recruitment, and back ground before Tennessee.

Archie was the running QB in the family. He ran in college and didn't really have a choice in the NFL.

The remark was made toward the post that Coleman ran the spread in HS. Therefore that makes him the most mobile QB we have. Did not agree with that statement. The Peyton line was a joke toward that post. I have driven dump trucks that accelerate quicker than Peyton does. Wish we had one that could throw like him tho.:good!:

I can believe that. I've seen him play twice this year (live) and have watched most of his games since he was a Frosh at UT.

Here's a clip before his time at UT.

I shouldn't slam on Peyton. He was great. My dad has a autographed ball by him. Hope it's mine one day.

His teammates give him grief about his running ability. I'm sure he's fine with it.

PM joked about being the new Indy running threat a couple of years ago after getting a rushing TD.

He makes his living with his mind and his arm along with a few evasive moves when required.

Peyton Manning ran the option in high school sometimes. High school offenses are usually going to be tailored around the running game.

I'm sure it wasn't, but he still ran the football from time to time and was able to do it successfully. It's different at that level if you have the size to be an SEC QB.

Coleman was a runner though. He did both reasonably well, but he was a run/pass guy under that offense. Peyton ran, but no where NEAR as much as Coleman did.

Speed @ the college level changes things a lot for HS QB's. Some look to have better running skills at the HS level, it takes a great athlete to make that work in the SEC.

If he can figure out how to read a D, and get it out to the guys who can run, We have a quarterback. We have not relied on our QB to run in the past, and I don't see that changing.
