Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

I think the way she speaks and her etiquette is part of her brand as a Black woman from Baltimore. It’s seemingly more “real” and less reflective of what academic partners think is marketable, which is an entire side conversation. fwiw, I agree that she could have pursued that, but I think it’s really phenomenal that women’s sports (and social media plays a large role in this) have expanded such that people can try to forge unique paths towards whatever financial success looks like for them.
Thanks for this wonderful post! I think you add something critically important in the Angel debate. Her being true to her Baltimore roots and staying real is also why there can be some racial element that gets triggered by some folks who hate her, though I realize that others just don't like her break from traditional sportsmanship and for them it is nothing to do with race. I personal admire her grit and her speaking her mind even when it is not a popular opinion, while other times I am annoyed by her behavior. Perhaps I give her a bit more grace as an LSU alum.

On the road for a long trip, will be watching the games tonight of course. I could see the Wolfpack giving SC a game, they have been playing so well since the ACCT final game. Rivers will of course have extra motivation, and State is full of confidence after knocking off both Stanford and Texas. I will be interested in seeing if they can continue shooting way above their season average from three as they have been doing in the tourney. If they continue shooting threes at the recent clip it will be a tight game. Not likely they outscore SC in the paint. PaoPao will struggle guarding their longer guards. Maybe the game for Dawn to unleash Fulwiley……but I suspect she is saving that for the Iowa/Uconn winner (Iowa imo). At the guard positions, NCSU is supremely athletic and long, hard to game plan for that, Rivers get to the rim with ease and James creates her own shot ala a Rikea so not much you can do with those two when they are on.

Can you do a list for our current roster?

If the reports are true, El Alfi will start. (Providing everyone comes back, healthy and ready to play at the start of the season.)

That poor, sad group. Only eight players ranked in the Top Ten, and only three #1 players.

How far the mighty have fallen. Anyone not in tears is a heartless beast.

And that poor old man over them having to deal with such unparalleled trials and humiliation. No wonder he has aged so much lately.

But ya' got to admit, that poor old man can still recruit. Maybe Tennessee should be looking at Ralph. She's a good recruiter with a top 10 player committed for next year and she learned at the master's knee.
Tennessee will never return to elite status, and I want them to, until they bring in a recruiter.

I’m just waiting for the coaching change so we can get all those number one recruits, I hope you all are right that we will get them with the next coach.

Ralph, who literally jumped up and down with glee at our buzzer beater loss to South Carolina? If only I could "dislike" a post!

No one's suggesting that we become the next head coach of your favorite program!
Depends on whether you want Tennessee to get back on the bandwagon. Right now they are on the edge of being just another team. Whoever the next coach is, they need to be a recruiter.

Ralph would never coach Tennessee…that ship sailed more than 25 years ago. Ditto Berube.

So far it appears that Ralph can do that. She has had two recruits off the ESPN list, plus she ended up with Tennessee's top recruit. Ralph was Auriemmas assistant for 13 years. She knows recruiting and she knows coaching.

Agreed. And certainly no longtime Tennessee fans would want either of them, and for the same reason.

Noone connected with either program would dare even think of crossing over. Not gonna happen now. Should NEVER happen.

Just ... no.
