glv, I think it highly likely that the SEC is going to feature at least 6 teams this year that can win against anyone on any given night and the next 2-3 will pull some major upsets as well. The conference is getting deeper obviously with the addition of two excellent programs in TX and OK, but many other SEC teams are building up their rosters and will be competing for March slots…….this will likely be one of the most competitive SEC seasons in many years. That's the opinion of Coach Johnnie and the other SEC coaches she talks to. But what do they know, right?
Not only has the top of the SEC gotten much stronger, but the middle is a battlefield with the Alabama teams, KY, and even Vandy taking big steps. IMO the only dogs left at the bottom are FLA and Missouri. Big question marks for me are the MIssissipi teams. Not sure what to make of them.
If you’re a women’s college basketball fan, this season is going to be entertaining!!!!As for the NCAA this upcoming season, it’s a bit of the same story, a lot of contenders who could end up in the E8.
UCONN, SOCAL, UCLA, SOCAR, TX, LSU, ND, Duke and several others seem to be at that stage already, and I suspect another 6-8 to join the party with UT in the mix tbh.
While Watkins is still on suspension, there's a bit on news in today's local Columbia paper. Dawn is quoted in the following when the topic of this year's team leaders came up. "Upon Ashlyn's return", Staley said, "Ashlyn has a great voice in the locker room". The implication here is that Dawn believes she'll be rejoining the team, perhaps sooner than later.
Watkins did not make the trip to the White House nor did Feagin. Feagin had a great excuse as she was busy with the 3x3 U23 World Cup team winning gold. Feagin won MVP on that team.
I find this disgusting. She has no business returning to the team until her criminal proceedings are finished.
My heart is with the young woman she allegedly terrorized, abused and prevented from leaving for safety.
She is still suspended and the court date will happen in October. The so called "victim" was Watkin's GF and has already recanted the charges. Did Watkins actually save her from jumping off the parking garage as some say? That should all come out during the court date and we will learn whether it was all a misunderstanding as her attorney claims.
The basic situation is not a 'misunderstanding'. Having an inebriated, possibly suicidal minor in your apartment overnight is a serious charge. Why is her gf a minor? Is statutory rape a charge anymore? If a male athlete had a minor female in the same situation he would be under the jail. She is still suspended and the court date will happen in October. The age of consent in SC is 16. When I was at Wofford ( all male in those days ) dating high school girls was quite common. The basic situation is not a 'misunderstanding'. No matter the legal outcome, this whole thing is very disturbing and both Watkins and the minor need intense help. Life before basketball.
I don't' know the age difference of the SC drama, but many people as Seniors in high school date Juniors, Sophomores and even Freshmen. I remember many of the Senior girls upset at their choices at school, as many felt Senior boys were more immature than them. In any case, it is not weird for someone in college to continue or start dating a younger romantic partner unless the age differences are extreme or the person is under 16.The age of consent in SC is 16. Each state has its own unique laws and legal processes when it comes to charging and convicting statutory rape offenders. In South Carolina, the age of consent is 16, meaning that anyone 16 or older who has sexual relations with a younger party can be charged with a felony regardless of consent. The age of consent in SC is 16. I don’t see any disagreement with you there, but you did bring up statutory rape which it is not.Guys please. Having a drunken, suicidal minor in your apartment in the middle of the night and having her fleeing in terror and you pick her up bodily and drag her back to your apartment while authoriies are called is a problem. Every bit of this behavior needs serious intervention.
Maybe it was a different era, but in my day it was known as jail bait. I can still hear my Dad warning against it. Messing w minors if you're of age is just idiotic.

Thank goodness it is not an issue with which our team is dealing. Has the age of the “victim” been confirmed or is this a deepening of the speculation? So you’d be cool with a 20yo on the men’s team having a drunk 16yo girl in his dorm room, then proceeding to have an altercation?
Statutory rape or not, it’s gross.
When I was in college I couldn’t even imagine talking to a 16yo let alone drinking with one or sleeping with one.
