Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Friends, there are plenty enough people in South Carolina where the individuals involved in this are from to spend tons of their lead-up to the season talking about that. It's covered! Do what you want of course, but dang! We're only a month out from what may be the most highly anticipated season in decades, so I'm leaving all that South Carolina drama for them to worry about.

GO LADY VOLS!!!
Not sure what this even means. There are lots of threads with lots of talk about the upcoming season. Appropriately, that's not here and this discussion isn't there.
Thank goodness it is not an issue with which our team is dealing. Has the age of the “victim” been confirmed or is this a deepening of the speculation?
Pretty sure fm multiple reports she's 17, which is a year past SC's age of consent of 16. Still a legal minor though.

…it’s means this is a toxic conversation.

Which no one is forced to participate in, esp when it's in the proper thread. But everyone is free to label it toxic and to post their farewells to. Occassionally online forums work just the way they're supposed to!

Just an observation. And yes, that’s my label for this issue. 😈
Not trying convince anyone they should believe similarly.

I'd label the incident troubling and disturbing therefore 'toxic' to those involved. And capable of sending us down 'toxic' rabbitholes.

But IMO, the conversation around Dawn's handling of Watkins and her future is relevant.

As you said though, each to their own.

So you’d be cool with a 20yo on the men’s team having a drunk 16yo girl in his dorm room, then proceeding to have an altercation?

Statutory rape or not, it’s gross.

When I was in college I couldn’t even imagine talking to a 16yo let alone drinking with one or sleeping with one. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Did I say that? I said I had no disagreement with what the poster said but that it wasn’t a legal issue as far as statutory rape goes only.

I’m personally not really worried about what goes on with the teams I don’t pull for.

Agreed, but I don't know that I'd exactly lump them all together. Banghart I think should actually be on the hot seat. She's only finished better than 6th in the ACC once in her 5 years at UNC and only made it to the Sweet 16 once. Her winning percentage is 63.2%. Far worse than what Kellie was just fired for IMO.

I certainly wouldn't put Close or McGuff on the hot seat, but I agree they haven't gotten over the hump to be considered "among the elites" (to a Final 4, or in Close's case, finished first in the conference). Collen deserves more time, and I don't think she's as bad as some on here might suggest.

Mittie has had a fine(ish) career but even if Kansas St. had a magical year in Ayoka Lee's final season I still don't know if I'd consider him one of the elites. He has a losing record in the Big 12 over 10 seasons and has never made it past the NCAA 2nd round.

Agreed. I like this breakdown.

I think Banghart’s recruiting is what’s keeping her in it. Her coaching, on the other hand, leaves a LOT to be desired.

Close is on like her 5th prove it year. So overrated IMO. She has gotten a lot of leeway because she’s buddies with Geno.

Banghart is out after this season, almost a guarantee, she has done less with more her entire time at UNC and she doesn’t have a great roster this season.

McGuff I suspect has the Ohio State job as long as he wants it. I feel like they would have fired him already from some of the shady stuff he’s done if they were going to move on.

Collen was never going to do anything at Baylor. I don’t see them firing her though. I think they just slowly fade into obscurity with her for another 5-10 years before moving on to someone they can pay less.

Jeff Mittie probably retired with Ayoka Lee imo. He has over achieved. KState isn’t a wbb school.

You are like a dog with a bone... Give a rest. You love to argue your point almost to exhaustion. We know you don't agree with it. Point made, but like others have pointed out, it's SC problem. Why are you so invested?

I'd add Kara Lawson to the Prove It Now list. Duke is picked top 10 in some forecasts. They've been on the cusp for awhile now. Kara has to prove she can coach top level offense.

Especially on the offensive end. They are atrocious to watch.

All 13,046 season tickets have been sold for the gamecock's WBB 2024-25 season. 4,954 seats are available as single seat purchases.

Capacity of CLA is 18,000. With all the additional banners CLA is becoming claustrophobic. :)

This year marks the 10th year in a row that South Carolina has led the nation in WBB ticket sales.
