Says the fan of a coach who has yet to denounce her player kidnapping and assaulting a drunk minor on campus.
Anyway.
In this country we are assumed innocent until proven guilty. The so called victim ( Watkin's girlfriend ) is now saying there was no assault. Why would Dawn denounce her player when it hasn't gone to court and all the facts aren't in? Watkins is currently suspended from the team until the matter is resolved in court.
We’re talking about basketball. Football will always be king in America. UT has a campus street named after Chamique Holdsclaw, arguably a game changer. There are statues of 30 Heisman winners alone across the country. What’s the women’s BB equivalent to the Heisman? Are the rules the same?
Of the 84 Heisman winners, 30 either have had statues built or have plans in the works to do so by their respective colleges. That’s 35% of all Heisman winners.

How narcissistic.Lots of folks seem to think that a person has to be old to be recognized for the accomplishments of their youth. I am of the mind that if someone is 18-years old and wins every honor in the books and brings nothing but glory to their school and community, and everyone already knows without a doubt that "someday" they'll get a statue ...
... Then why in the hell does the person have to wait until they've been gone for years to enjoy seeing a statue of themselves? What is the point of waiting? What is wrong with allowing people even more years to enjoy it? Is it somehow cooler if they show up to the ceremony 50 years older and in a wheelchair? Would that be better? Or maybe we should always wait until after the person is already dead so that they won't get the bighead over it. Yeah, that's it!
Absolutely! Perfect.I think you might also look at Nancy Lieberman or Lisa.Lesley for varios reasons. Or if you were looking at Tennessee there's a lot of reasons a player like Trish Robert's would make a lot of sense to have a statue erected. It will be 50 years and she still holds single season scoring records and was on the anugaral women's basketball team the played in the Olympics in 1976. That's a great story to put with a statue. She was a pioneer when times may not have been easy for her and she is still involved with and loves the lady vols.
We’re talking about basketball. It’s a different game from football.Rooster said all across the country in men’s sports like CFB which is very true. Auburn alone has statues of Cam Newton, Charles Barkley, Frank Thomas, Bo Jackson, and several others. Countless other school campuses have the same. What’s wrong with that? Up to each school to set their own criteria and do what they want.

You realize how disgusting you sound?
Victims of domestic violence frequently recant statements. That’s a tale as old as time in law enforcement. Especially young, impressionable victims. That does NOT mean a crime did not occur.
If nothing occurred she would not have been arrested. Clearly there was an incident. Yes the justice system will decide if it is punishable by law.
None of that makes it ok for Staley to have totally brushed this under the rug. You can support your player while also making a statement that behavior like that will not be tolerated in your program. Her silence is loud and indicates South Carolina women’s basketball is ok with players dating underage children, having them drunk in their dorms on campus, and behaving in a manner that police were called and a player was arrested.
Not a good message to send to the world. Especially to young people and victims of domestic violence and abuse.
LSU fans are positive about Baton Rougeon Seimone Augustus statue outside of the PMAC, which I think was unveiled about a year ago. She turned the program around and had a great collegiate and pro career.
Yes, she earned one for sure.
A’Ja did as well, but not in the time frame it was given. The whole “give their flowers now” BS is so dumb.
You earn things like that by continuing to be an upstanding person and a steward of the game.
A’Ja was MVP this year but took a bunch of PR Ls. More and more she looks like a fake, mean girl with a victim mentality. Plus maintaining a close friendship with Deloris, who spews more hate than anyone in the WBB space, was a bad look.
What are the chances that South Carolina will take her statue down? At least you're last paragraph depsite it beig somewhat passive aggressive gets to the root of issue you have with her. And it's only going to worse too.Yes, she earned one for sure.
