Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Clark got bodied hard that was definitely a foul and an example of the contact she takes all the time. That’s why the officials allow her to push off some.

There are dozens of teams that had less talent, no HOF coach,, less resources, in fact, weren't even in many conversations 10 years ago that have outperformed TN. That's a fact.
I'm not arguing that Tennessee shouldn't be better. I think it was a mistake for Fulmer to limit his search to former Lady Vols ... but my point still holds : Replacing one of the all time greats, and a coach who has been the face of your program for over 35 years, will rarely be a smooth transition in any sport ... Like I said, let's see how well Stanford and UConn handle it.

Take this elsewhere. Plenty of lady Vol threads for this convo.

I think recruiting is overrated in basketball these kids grow up watching and know where they want to go before hand it's the flavor of the times.Teams such as Connecticut and South Carolina and Louisville are the it schools now.its been 15 years since Tennessee won a title most these girls were five maybe six they aren't watching basketball at that age they worrying about playing outside and dolls.Kobe Bryant's daughter that was dramatically killed in helicopter crash was 13 already was going to go to Connecticut.Tennessee hasn't been the flavor of the times in a while that's why recruiting is down it's nothing else in my eyes but hell I'm half blind

SO...how long does it take to get back on track? TN was a powerhouse and still very relevant. They could have had their pick of almost any coach. Didn't Pat choose her replacement? Notre Dame is still in the hunt after McGraw left so...I'm not buying that TN's issues are related to Pat retiring, especially when the recruiting didn't fall off. And it definitely isn't related to what some other team might experience in the future.

I see a couple of responses on other threads about accepting parity and things aren't they like they were back in Pat's day. All true but what does that mean? You just accept it and do nothing? The same thing happened in the mens game. Did Kansas, UK, North Carolina all just accept it and allow their brands to slowly disintegrate? No they did what they needed to do and have claimed national titles across multiple decades. Tennessee didn't get one in the 2010's. Tennessee has to win a title in the 2020's. If they don't it will have been over 20 years since the last and a longer absence on the title podium than the UCLA men.

Its up to Tennessee to decide when enough is enough. And if they don't then it means they are stubborn or don't care.
