Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I don't think it's quite that dire. If Horston moves on, we could start something like: Key, Hollingshead, Jackson, Pissott/Darby, and Powell. Or if you want better spacing, Key, Jackson, Pissott, Darby, and Powell.

I'm assuming Hollingshead can become a consistent offensive threat and Pissott makes a big leap - she was the #11 2022 recruit for a reason. (Striplin and Puckett were our 2nd and 3rd best 3pt. shooters and can continue to be important role players.)

I'm 50/50 on Powell. I think she is better than what she showed this year and I'm not ready to give up on her. If she maintains that kind of A/TO ratio and ups her FG/3pt. percentages even to what she showed at Minnesota, and then you have Miles as a defensive-stopper off the bench, the PG situation could be really solid if not exceptional. That said, if you don't think Powell is going to be able to shoot/score with consistency at Tennessee, then that's a concern, because Miles isn't going to bring that either.

That leaves shooting guard as the biggest need to me. Darby can shoot with the best of them but can't create (and has improved her defense but still had the worst defensive rating on the team), and Wynn can get to the rim at will but can't shoot or finish with consistency (but is a good defender). We could use a consistent scorer who can shoot the 3 and play great defense. Easier said than done, but there are options in the portal and I'm sure more to come.

We will need a starting Pg and Sg, Powell is not a starter and should play limited mins. And if we get everything we could use an athletic center that can score and command double teams.

I could be ok with Key, Hollingshead and Rickea starting but we need the other 2 starters through the portal. Powell does not need to be starting at all and maybe Pissott can start if she improves a lot this summer but I don’t know if that’s going to happen.

Another thing that bugs me is the way the SC bigs get away with "camping out" in the lane. I watched a couple of sequences where a three second call could have been made.

That’s been going on all year! As an opposing coach, I’d be in the refs ear or task an assistant coach to yell it every time down the floor! 😂

Seriously me too! I remember when we had a string of MVPs of this game! 😩 if I recall correctly….Jordan Reynolds, Tea Cooper, and I feel like there’s one more.
Was Jordan Reynolds ever MVP? Simmons and Cooper I remember getting it…not sure who else since Parker’s class.
