Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Just hope Lady Vols didn't put so much steam into last night and coming up short doesn't deflate them.

First 5 minutes of Vandy game should let everyone know if they flushed this loss.
Hopefully they can get their legs back in a couple of days. We really went all out with the starters other than Key to try to win. The bench will be in great shape, but what can they do is the question?

Our bench outscored them 18-12, mostly bc TK didn't start but had 10 pts. I was wrong about Jewel going off against Vandy, she had 12 pts,. JP had 16. Tess actually had 8 pts but I wouldn't count on that. Probably their inability to guard Rickea will be the big factor.

Have to see how the Refs call the game how many fouls will Key get for Washington falling down. How many points will that cost us was four in Knoxville. She is the most obvious flopper in the SEC never gets called. We'll need to stop their freshman inside player and they improved their starting five by taking out PIssott.

One of the things I've always admired the most about Pat, and think we can all learn from, is that she openly admitted her shortcomings as an offensive strategist and publically sought help figuring out. Ain't too proud to beg. Went to Phil Jackson, went to Harry Perretta. But she never really did find the answers, and that's when Geno passed her.

Also interesting, but not surprising, that many from her coaching tree have the same problem, most notably KJH and Kara Lawson.

Nope. Just nope. Auriemma passed Summitt because of the Maya Moore recruitment, a story we're all intimately familiar with around here, and because Pat's illness took over. Had Moore gone to Tennessee, it would have been Pat adding another banner or two. Had Summitt not contracted Alzheimer's, she probably would have put together a few more championship teams as well. I see a lot of people who like to dump on Summitt by saying the "game had passed her by." That's what a lot of the Boneyard folks said during the Taurasi years. A shame to see so many here take up the same tone the Husky fans did. And boy did they gloat about that. So what did Summitt do? She signed the best player of her era, and a bunch of other McDonalds All-Americans, and won back to back titles. I always shake my head when people start in on the "the game passed her by" nonsense. It was the cyclical nature of recrutiing, nothing Moore. (Get it? "Moore"? Ha. I kill me.)

The reality of this sport is that the programs with the most talent tend to reach the Final Four and/or win the titles. It's not a vast sea of parity like some claim it is. It never has been. It probably never will be.

She (Washington) is the most obvious flopper in the SEC never gets called
Washington is definitely on the All SEC Flopper team, but Barker and Poffenbarger are chasing her hard for Flopper MVP. Agree, how much flopping is allowed will be important.

Agree to disagree. In the earlier day, having the best player was all it took. But to sustain like Geno did as the talent level grew and disbursed, you have to keep up with the changing game. Pat was never able to do that on offense.

I’m telling you right now.. true LV fans and even NVs I sense us getting an understanding so I’m here to tell you if you think last nights SC vs Tenn game was a heavyweight fight just wait until the rematch.

Tennessee plays UP to their competition. SC has a good team. They play a good brand of organized basketball. They don’t have superior talent. I’m never going to be a SC fan but Coach Staley isn’t getting enough credit.
The SEC fan club and SC fans on Twitter disappeared on the top ranked team when the LVs hit them in their mouth for 3 plus qtrs.
That’s equivalent to how the NVs discredit this storied LVs program.. so when SC is not playing the LVs from this point forward they have my support/respect.

With that being said, SC will not beat the LVs any worse if they even beat them at all in the rematch.

Tennessee is a sleeping giant. Lets see if this awakens the greatest WBB program of all-time. That’s facts. I stamp that.

Yeah, and like I said, plenty of people said Pat had fallen behind during the UConn three-peat, and then Pat signed Parker, Hornbuckle, and Anosike, and all of a sudden Pat could coach again. A miracle.

Had she been around to coach Harrison, Massengale, Burdick, Graves, Russell, etc., I'm confident Summitt would have punched at least one more title in. Probably more than one. Summitt would have changed the recruiting landscape during the early 2010s.

This dude said only 11,000 lol.. put 11,000 in SC little stadium and it would be a sellout.

TBA is the home that won 8 nat’l titles and is huge! And it was loud. It was FULL. And Rocking Top was Rocky!

The LVs are top 5-10 in crowd sizes in WBB!

We ain’t done yet.. LSU and Texas A&M it’s scary hours on Rocky Top!
We will have 18,000 (the arena holds 18,000) and gameday Sunday. That's a sellout and it's the fourth this season. We have also lead the nation in attendance the last 6 years in a row. We average over 15,000 a game. That is something Tennessee did for years. Tune in. You don't seem to know much about South Carolina and our fan base. You actually don't seem to know much period.

I am still "fearing the Spear". Geez....0 points is fearful. You overload your mouth. It seems you would learn...lol....but no.

Agree, next time is likely to be the one we've dreaded. However, SC will have the SEC reg season championship sewed up and the SEC tourney coming up so maybe she goes a little easy. Fingers crossed.

But truthfully, right now I don't care about that game. Have to beat Vandy and TAM and if LSU, that's the cherry on top. At that point our tourney fate will likely have been decided.
Normally I'd agree that the game would be a shoulder shrug for them if they already locked up the regular season SEC title by then. Except it's Senior Day. And the winning streak. They aren't letting it up. What was it Jumper said? Dawn will make them eat nails and spit out tacks? Yup, that's what I see.

TAMU is the game that I'm most worried about (besides the SC rematch and LSU, neither of which I think they will win).

Notice he dropped Jewel like a hot tater last night and switched back to Rickea, who he had kicked to the curb for our "best offensive option" Jewel when she went off for a few games. Sheesh, fickle guy, glad he's not my Uncle!

Pissott is still in the starting lineup. She just didn't start that one game, probably due to matchups.

Depressing how young SC's roster is. Only Srs are Kamilla, Pao Pao, and Walker. Do all have the covid option?
Yes.

My guess is Poa Poa and Kamilla go pro but Walker exercises her option to stay. She's basically learning how the game at the top is played. It's a far cry from JUCO.

Listen to that NV if you want to SC birdie .. I’m still riding with Jewel ‘Fear Da Spear’ Spear.. she got that dawg mentality.

I know after last night she wasn’t impressed. The best shooter in the league and former ACC leading scorer.

I stamp that. Like I said before the NVs this morning were shook last night. The SEC fan club and SC fans on Twitter abandoned SC when the LVs hit them in the mouth for 3plus qtrs.

You took your shots at Jewel and now you got to stay there. It’s scary hours on Rocky Top! You don’t wake a sleeping giant!

Wake???? Strange that you would have to wake Tennessee. I think if Harper returns you will see a lot of the players at Tennessee hit the portal. Tennessee hit them in the mouth? That's not what happened. They played them toe to toe for 3 quarters. You have a delusional look at everything. Yea I will agree there is a scary hour on Rocky Top, just not for the same reason.

You’re unhinged! “If Harper returns you will see a lot of the players at Tennessee hit the portal” man have you lost your mind? That’s insane. Tennessee will return a solid core of the team that may include Spear and TK plus what they sign out of the portal.
It’s scary hours on Rocky Top and nothing you say will change that.. Tennessee about to have it’s 4th player drafted in the first round of the WNBA draft!

You better be sending a thank you card to that one official… like I said Tennessee hit SC in the mouth. Also as I said before, Sara would out play Kitts. Ain’t no generational talent on that SC roster. Ain’t no group of players on that SC bench in the guard positions that buried former 5star McD All-American transfer to Tennessee in the rotation. That was personal. And I can’t wait to see #55 suit up next year on Rocky Top! 2024 the get back season!

OAN: Rickea Jackson is generational.. and about to be a dawg in the WNBA.

Kamilla is a lottery pick. Raven and Bree I respect their game… Raven scored 2, PaoPao scored 4 but should’ve been 2 got away with a travel. Spear didn’t score. But she’s a dawg and will bounce back. Ask Ole Miss she’ll drop 30..

Truth, Tennessee should’ve beaten SC not because SC played bad but because last night Tennessee was the better team for most of the game.

It’s simple.

The officiating killed the flow of the game in the 2nd half. Get your popcorn ready because Tennessee ain’t going nowhere.

That team is vulnerable. Better enjoy it.. don’t wake a sleeping giant!

If it has taken over 2/3 of the regular season to wake up, then there are issues either with players or coaching. Pick one.
