Mercedes Russell hit a game-winning buzzer beater in Game 2 of the WNBL finals to force a final Game 3: FIBA LiveStats

She finished with 18 points, 17 boards, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. So cool that she is playing with Lauren Jackson. Lou Brown is also on her team, along with potential first-round WNBA draft pick Nyadiew Puoch.

Okay this was really fast but:
Scott Rueck Oregon State 14 years
Win % at OS 67.4% Conf only 58.6%
Last 3 complete seasons and NCAA result
12-8 First round
17-14 NIT quarters
13-18 none
Kevin McGuff. OSU approx 10 years
Win % at OSU 63.9% Conf only 61.3%
Last 3 complete seasons and NCAA results
25-7 second round
28-8 sweet sixteen
25-5 elite eight
Cori Close UCLA approx 12 years
Win % at UCLA 67.3 conf only 64.8
Last 2 complete seasons and NCAA results
(I messed up and only got last 2 complete, I’ll get those in a min.)
18-13. NIT champs
27-10 sweet sixteen
Lindsay Gottlieb USC 4 years
Win % at USC 65.5% conf only 54.7%
Last 3 complete seasons and NCAA results
12-16 none
21-10 none

For comparison
Kellie Harper UT 5 years
Win % at UT 67.7%, conf only 60.8%
17-8 second round
25-9 sweet sixteen
25-12 sweet sixteen

Please someone tell me if theses are big name coaches then why isn’t Kellie as well!
Also remember Kellie played SC and LSU numerous times when looking at conf win% comparison
I went really fast getting this info so I’m sorry if there is an error. I think they are good but will change If need be
Maybe too fast Lucy…….look at Gottlieb you show her W-L record for this year alongside ncaa result of first round….also, she has more than 3 years as a HC, so there were 3 full seasons prior to this year to sample

Also looks like some have this year’s totals included in the three years and some don’t. Rueck and Kellie looks to have included the three years before this one while Gottlieb and McGuff have this year’s totals included.

I also think perception plays a factor. Let me state that not all schedules are put together similarly first. However if you look at everyone besides Rueck, their losses are decreasing or staying the same the last three years while Kellie’s will have increased the last 4 unless we pull of a miracle National Championship. It will have went 8 to 9 to 12 and probably 13 this year. I say this as someone who believes Kellie will be back next year, but she REALLY needs to start going the other way.

Gottlieb and Close aren't leaving USC and UCLA.

I got info from Wikipedia. Gottleib was out of college coaching until last three years. I’ll check again though.

Hey Rooster. Please relook at my post. I’ve got three years for her before the current year. I just looked at record at their current school. Maybe I don’t understand what you think is incorrect?

Looking at what Miller, Poppie, and Dudonis have done they would be my first choice to see if it relates to the big time.
'to see if it relates to the big time' is exactly what we don't need to do IMO. Been there, done that, cannot afford to lose that particular gamble again. If we can't or won't go big, just stay put.

Curious what those coaches' records are against ranked teams. I think that's the biggest problem for Kellie - can't win the big games. Never more painfully brought home than Saturday. There's also the higher expectations of the brand. Serious recruiting problems add to the mix.

Next year will be the third straight year we've said it will be her Waterloo. Without another significant portal haul, and with a much stronger SEC, next season looks very tough. I think sheeze gets real for her at that point. I hope she overcomes it all, she seems to be an incredible person. Never been prouder of the culture.
We? Maybe you, and a few others, I don’t recall hearing Waterloo before this year, and I don’t agree. Kellie kept her teams winning after losses of Zaay, Rae, Keyen, Horston, Tamari, and others, but we lost Rickea for 8 games this year, and she was much more irreplaceable. Teams that lost their star player this year, also lost, such as Betts at UCLA, and Brink at Stanford.

This last game hurt all true Tennessee fans, but ‘can’t win the big games’? Kellie’s teams have beaten teams Coached by Vic, Muffet, Kim, Dawn, and others. Beating LSU last year in the SEC Tournament was certainly a big game.

If the ref in the last game calls the double dribble that SC did, the narrative is different. We still made a huge comeback, and were ahead of unbeaten SC, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out, there are buzzer beaters on Espn seems like every day.

Now, on to the NCAA, hope we come out angry and determined.

GO KELLIE, AND GO LADY VOLS!!!

I am one of those SC fans that feel MAYBE/LIKELY it would have been better for the team to lose that game…..UT deserved that win until the final seconds, in any event it might have served SC well going into the NCAA’s to lose and take the undefeated monkey off their backs. Depends how this young team responds, but they needed a wake up call and not sure if the miracle win did that for them. The LSU fiasco may have done it however, you know there has to have been some come to Jesus moments in Columbia with CDS and team since that last game. For whatever you think of CDS, she is embarrassed by those events and she is a strict disciplinarian for those that don’t know her well. She “don’t play games” with her players.

SC had help from the “blind” ref, which may not happen in the NCAA’s. The game, and anguish of our Coach and players does remind me of Boston’s missed shot. Those tears were hard to take, too.

Yeah, those pesky refs. Always doing a job the complainers don’t want to do. The crying about officiating, regardless of sport on this forum is astounding.

How they played in their conference tournament and strength of schedule within their leagues. If that's the case, with Tennessee playing the way they did in the SEC tournament we may be a bit higher than most expect. Blowing out UK and Bama then taking that miserable 1 point loss to undefeated South Carolina has to mean something to the committee if what Peterson is saying is the most logical looked at criteria when seeding teams for the NCAA tournament

I’m choosing to believe that whole interview was soft launching a higher seed for the Lady Vols.

Is this accurate? Why is Freese buyout 11 million. 11 million?! Are they serious there in Maryland. They are 100% stuck with her for quite some time.

Fulwiley signs with Curry Brand

MILAYSIA FULWILEY SIGNS WITH CURRY BRAND (prnewswire.com)

I think she is going to really explode next season when she becomes a starter (she will start next year).
You think she will start? Ahead of who? Raven & Paopao will be returning starters along with Hall so I don't see how she would be a starter. But that's really unfortunate because Fulwiley is an exceptional talent.

She can start for the LVs. And that new national deal should travel with her.
