Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Me too. Also would like to know what KY women’s NIL looks like?
It has been virtually non existent for WBB. Well see if that changes.

Their entire NIL apparatus is 2 years behind those who were on the cutting edge and they don't really have the money they need for football. So its a question of resource allocation.

Oh spare me the snarky commentary. NIL was completely legal at the time, so whatever was offered would have been legal at the time. "Strong-ass offer" was used entirely as a figurative expression for "money." Heaven forbid someone crack a joke around here.
Again, what was your point? That UConn was the bad guy for being able to offer NIL $ or that UT was deficient in not being competitive in NIL?

I would post a joke about Clark having to try twice as hard in order to succeed as a person of a particular persuasion in a pursuit dominated by a different persuasion, but I'd get called names, so I would never attempt to post such a jest.
Creek, lot of ways to spin your post, gonna give the benefit of the doubt here.

KY is still in the SEC last time I looked, getting the same annual SEC payouts as everyone else. They are not poor, it’s a matter of deciding where they want to allocate funds. As for NIL I have no idea where KY WBB is, but from the recent recruiting results one would have to think they are pretty far behind.

Brooks is obviously a good coach. I reserve my opinion on his ceiling in the SEC for awhile. Hiring a coach who has had an AA (Kitley) the past 5 seasons is tricky. No guarantee he can duplicate his success in the absence of an all time great like her and also Amoore, but we are going to find out. I would bet it took around $2.5 million to get him, if so, good for Ky deciding to go big.

It will be interesting to see how Kenny Brooks will adjust his team to the physicality of the SEC because he often would complain about the physicality of Duke's defense of Elizabeth Kitley.

I’ll be interested to see if Ajae Petty, Maddie Scherr and Eniya Russell opt out of the portal. Even though they entered, they could chose to stay if they like the hire.

If that happens and Kenny brings in some talented transfers (or if Amoore follows), he’ll be in business.

A weasel worded post if there ever was one.

I don't disagree that Taylor is overrated, but also wonder how much of the issue is Barker? Obviously all we can go off of is what we hear and rumors, but it seems like Barker isn't the most coachable player there ever wàs. Could be wrong, but where there's smoke there's fire and she seems like a lot to manage. The type of player that Harper, imo, wisely stays away from to maintain culture and locker room peace.
She apparently stays away from all top ten players so no worries.

Again, a lot of ways to spin this. Probably best left open ended tbh.

Look, it was supposed to be a pointed comment toward the dragging in of "race" into the discussion by another poster...and trying to do so with a little comedy. I'm just fed up with the constant "white/black" divisiveness constantly coming up on social media any time a "predominantly black team" faces off with a "predominantly white" team. It's something that has largely been avoided here, although the media is filled with "race" narratives surrounding particular teams.

The day I start pulling for particular teams or players because they "look like me" or "represent my people" or something similarly based upon skin color is the day I'll know that my priorities are skewed. And there are certain prominent coaches who feed into the racial divisiveness narratives, and I cannot believe that they do so innocently.

The way you worded it left some question as to the true intent, but knowing you I said best to give benefit of the doubt, thx for clarifying. Some “prominent” coaches feel obligated to deal with the narratives that are spun on social media. Probably a mistake, because they then get labeled a racist. Trying to uplift a minority group of coaches and underprivileged young women from a place of disadvantage is not racist, it’s just trying to do what is right for everyone. Nothing wrong with that as you know. But it will get you labeled by certain groups.

Fed up with it and yet feeding into it entirely with a divisive post of your own, hmm 🤔

Also, the "trying twice as hard" was in reference to the most recent trash-talking/swearing incidents referenced in the post, not to on-court play. Whether from Kitts or Barker or Clark or Reese or coaches anyone else, there's a limit, and criticism of behavior doesn't need to bring out the racial ugliness. That doesn't help society at all.

And yet you fed into it by bringing in race, even in a joke you fed the beast. One day hopefully we get past all this BS as a society. I would add that many probably think it’s mostly a Southern thing, they would be wrong. visit the Iowa WBB forums, worse than the tigerdroppings LSU site for racial ugliness being spewn. It’s everywhere unfortunately, but worse in a few areas. Louisiana and Iowa by far the ugliest forums in the country relating to outward racism.

Tell me. How do you ridicule racist narratives using sarcasm without "bringing up race?"

By not posting something left open ended reference your thoughts wrapped around a “joke” that ends by implying you would go there if not for the fallout. I’m pretty open to humor, and I don’t usually get confused, your post was clever enough to leave a few doors open. Again, my first reaction was to give the benefit of the doubt, but that post would have received a ton of up votes on the Iowa and LSU boards…..it wasn’t worded to do otherwise by groups like that. So, simple answer, just say what you mean if you want to make a statement.

The intent was not to obscure the statement. I thought it was abundantly clear what I meant, and I just wanted to be a little more creative (as opposed to being "weaselly." If I wanted to weasel, I'd weasel).

And I'll refer any racists to Rhett Butler's parting words to Scarlett (how's that for "weasel wording?").

I reject all these stupid racist narratives. That means I don't think all minorities have to work twice as hard to succeed as majorities just as I don't think the only reason minorities succeed is due to affirmative action. I reject the idea that "brown bodies need brown coaches" just as I reject the idea that "white bodies need to be coached by white coaches." If that touches any sore spots among anyone, I refer them to the aforementioned Rhett Butler remark.

The LSU vs. Iowa race-baiting last season as "White America's team" vs. "Black America's team" just demonstrated that a lot of people of ALL skin tones can't get past the surface.

See, should’ve just left it alone, you knew what it meant when they posted it! They’re one of the “I don’t see color” people….its clear as day. Move on Roost!

They are not poor and yes everyone gets the same tv payout but dont be fooled...there are tiers of have and have nots even in the SEC. It will become even more apparent in the NIL era. A good indicator of what I'm talking about is look up the ranking of SEC schools by booster revenue (excludes tv payouts). Kentucky is not in the top half.

Yeah, one of those horrible "judge people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin" fanatics.
