Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Really unimpressed with Bueckers (as usual, we know I’m not a fan) but she just doesn’t really affect the game that much.

Scored 25 but none of it was very impactful, not a great passer, 3 turns and 2 assists, only 3 boards. Just doesn’t do all the little things that make a player truly great.

HH did those things, she is THAT girl.

Paige doesn’t have the fire other UConn GOATs have had. She’s a good player but she doesn’t get it done consistently. Sad.

Notre Dame is so on point when they want to be. Really nice game today. UConn needed Strong to score 20+ to win this one and she just isn’t quite ready for prime time. Such a talent but she isn’t ready to take over a game.
I only saw the second half, but from what I saw it wasn't that CT played terribly, but that ND had a particularly magical game. They had a couple of lapses, sure, but they didn't last long.

When is the last time any program has beaten CT three times in a row?

What’s your thoughts on the supporting cast? I know Fudd is out due to injury. As a team, after watching them really for time this season it seems they are lacking a steady defensive presence on both levels.
Good teams usually have atleast one lockdown defender.

ND beat UConn three times in a row in the same season when Diggins was there.

I would agree. They’ll go have fantastic games on both sides of the ball and I think we’ve turned a corner. And then a game like this happens and I wonder if I’ve been delusional the whole time.

We have people who can score and defend but there’s no one who can really step up and put the team on their back with any reliability. I mean, in Stewart’s freshman year they got beat by ND twice and Baylor once, then look what happened. So maybe Strong will end up being like that, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Seems we have a lot of players who lack the killer spirit. There’s no one on the team who is so good and aggressive that you just hate to play against her because she’ll go off and have a huge game every time.

Just a casual observation, and it's not like I watch many of their games .... but from what I've seen recently, Geno Auriemma doesn't show as much emotion on the sideline at the end of a loss as he used to. I still remember the end of our 2001 game in TBA when he pitched a fit over a foul called on Taurasi during a scramble for a loose ball, and got hit with a technical. He just kind of goes with the flow now.

You’re right. They beat Louisville, North Carolina, and Ole Miss who are Top 20 teams so they are battle tested.
I certainly feel Strong has that ability to be dominant on both ends of the floor.
Paige can get some timely blocks and steals but teams with playmakers like ND will make her guard for 4 quarters which is going to take its toll.
Good thing for UCONN is there’s not many teams with that many playmakers at the guard positions.
I think the hole in this year’s team is no player up until this point has been able to fill the production that Aaliyah Edwards provided on both ends.
Still a long season to go.

I'll disagree and say...

1. Hidalgo
2. Cooper
3. Latson
4. Miles
5. Betts

That doesn’t bother me. Good list. Olivia Miles is returning off an injury and could be even better as a player after two outstanding seasons prior to sitting out a season.
Talaysia Cooper has played in just seven games following her redshirt season but has been elite. Her performances are some of the best I’ve seen in WBB. She really is a unique talent.
It’s just a small sample compared to Olivia Miles and Hannah Hidalgo.
Right now, what we’re seeing from Coop is special.

Well NOW you've done it! There was a chance she could have had just an average game against Tennessee, but now that you've said that she'll probably put up haffahunnert on us! Dammit, VolBall09, we just can't have nice things with you!

😅

I may be wrong, but SC might have 4 in a row currently….If they beat UConn in Columbia this season that should be 5 straight.
