Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Just a casual observation, and it's not like I watch many of their games .... but from what I've seen recently, Geno Auriemma doesn't show as much emotion on the sideline at the end of a loss as he used to. I still remember the end of our 2001 game in TBA when he pitched a fit over a foul called on Taurasi during a scramble for a loose ball, and got hit with a technical. He just kind of goes with the flow now.
If I were being brutally honest I would say I actually think this is one of the reasons why we always choke in big games the past several years.

Notre Dame is so on point when they want to be. Really nice game today. UConn needed Strong to score 20+ to win this one and she just isn’t quite ready for prime time. Such a talent but she isn’t ready to take over a game.

Really think those Notre Dame losses were a bit of a fluke given they were likely exhausted with no depth and playing in that island tourney. If Karlen stays healthy, and they get Westbeld back at even 80% they are a problem.

Here’s my conspiracy theory:

He’s been counseled.
Y'all remember the little fit he threw at halftime about the officiating the last time we played them at TBA? Two or three years ago, I think. "This is why I hate coming down here" and so on? And guess what, he started to get every call he wanted after that. That man might be more passive these days but he still gets up for Tennessee!

Wait, I kind of need to hear more about this conspiracy theory.
At the risk of being banished from the LV forum:

“Controlling and entitlement behaviors are perhaps the most discussed toxic traits. Masculine programming mandates that men should exert dominance over their romantic, work, and social life by suppressing anyone not embracing the masculine programming, and demanding unearned loyalty and respect. The resulting domestic and social conflict, including potential bullying toward marginalized groups, can lead to serious personal, occupational, and legal consequences.

Men can be better. We can be better. While not an exhaustive list, here are a few changes we can implement to reprogram masculinity and stop harming ourselves, our community, and our loved ones.” - What is Toxic Masculinity and How it Impacts Mental Health

I can’t wait to see him tangle with that Minx!

total trivia, about a ref many have different thoughts. I always look at the referees for big games, and Dee Kanter was one of the three at the ND Conn game. For the NCAA, Kantner has been a referee in over twenty Final Four rounds since 1992 and over ten championship games in women's basketball.
I remember talking with her from the first SEC tourney she was a referee, 1989? Until the 1995, (correct me if I'm wrong) the game had only two referees.

35-40 games annually x 35 years 1400 college games by a woman educated to be a structural engineer.

Is she involved in mentoring wcbb officials?

Cooper and Miles is not top 5…

Talaysia Cooper has received two major NCAA honors in the first month and a half of this season.
Averaging 20 ppg 6 rebs, 3.6 assists on 55.7% FG in 22 minutes.
To be honest every time you post you expose your flawed logic about the sport.
That’s why I can’t take this stuff you post serious.

Never knew that. Went to see if I could find a ranking. Didn’t expect to find much, but for what it’s worth, I found this:

She has her defenders and critics.

Coop deserving of all the honors she is collecting, she is amazing. What a season this will be, wide open imo and that brings excitement. Sport is still growing fans, rightfully so. The young players coming in are more talented than ever as a whole.

ND is playing on 6 of 8 cylinders, Westbeld will be the biggest upgrade when she gets back in the lineup, she is so underrated. She reminds me of McKenzie Holmes in some ways, but with a jumper.

I think SC is finding their rhythm now, they are still Awesome when they are in sync. Still one of the best defensive teams in WBB, there are 5-7 teams in that sphere currently, some others like UT pushing to be there. You cannot say SC ever plays an easy schedule, stats will adjust as the season progresses. They have played the top SOS schedule so far. Nobody will beat them based upon depth alone, will need to beat them with amazing shooting imo. UT will be a challenge, as they will be with every team they face this season.

I could see SC losing 3-4 games this season. The teams that knock them off will shoot very well that game.
