Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Notre Dame beats Texas and UConn, but loses to TCU and Utah. Looks like they are inconsistent at best as far as the top teams go this season. The top two right now look like UCLA and Sc, the next group Texas, LSU, Notre Dame and UConn, and then a few that could be in there but still have a lot to prove to get in that group of six.

I agree with some others assessment that their depth is hurting them. As they get players healthy I think they are ultimately the biggest contender for the championship this season.

This ND team reminds me of the the team with Arike, Marina, and Jamie Young. That 3 guard attack really works for their style of play. Westbeld is their missing link right now.

I watched their tourney games in the Caribbean and they looked so disinterested but maybe it was just dead legs playing games close together with no bench.

All that says to me is that there’s going to be a lot of upsets come March.

Parity arrived in the women’s game in the last few years and it makes things so much more interesting.

Probably close to 50 teams that could upset a top 5 team these days. A decade about there were maybe 10, and that’s a big maybe.

Really unimpressed with Bueckers (as usual, we know I’m not a fan) but she just doesn’t really affect the game that much.

Scored 25 but none of it was very impactful, not a great passer, 3 turns and 2 assists, only 3 boards. Just doesn’t do all the little things that make a player truly great.

HH did those things, she is THAT girl.
Yeah, it's amazing how you can say things about a player after watching only one game. Two points, one, Paige was covered like a glove by Citron, and most of her shots were highly contested, and the ones that weren't she had to work pretty hard to get open. BTW, she is one of the best passers in the country. She still managed 25 points on 55% shooting. Second, how can you say Strong isn't ready for prime time. This is her 9th collegiate game, going against one of, if not the best team in the country. She had 14 points and 7 rebounds on 50% shooting. I'm actually impressed that you watched the game and didn't get all your info from just looking at the box score. It was the rest of the team that let UConn down, not Paige or Sarah.

Bueckers and Strong are amazing players and are good enough they could very well lead their team to a one-loss season (though I'll be hoping our Lady Vols can hang an upset L on them in Feb). Until last night I'd given Bueckers the edge of probability, when it's all said and done, to repeat as NPOY, but I see she's got serious competition now in Hidalgo if her season ends up like it has started. It's still early, for everyone, so a lot could happen between now and the end of the season. So far there are quite a few more players worthy of being in the conversation than there typically are, so it's going to be an exciting year. Our own Tay Cooper has been sensational!

Talaysia Cooper has received two major NCAA honors in the first month and a half of this season.
Averaging 20 ppg 6 rebs, 3.6 assists on 55.7% FG in 22 minutes.
To be honest every time you post you expose your flawed logic about the sport.
That’s why I can’t take this stuff you post serious.
She hasn’t played anyone so stats are useless. She’s not a top 5 player rn

There is no parity… the same teams that have been ranked over the last ten-15 years… parity is on the men’s side… look at all the mid majors that are defeating p4 schools this year… there is not enough good talent in Women’s basketball for parity. 15 scholarships is too many and players outside of the top 30 rankings can play anywhere.

The good news is she's still young and can still get even better than she is. Even though only two of the seven games she has played this year have been against good competition, skewing her stats a bit, I can say with confidence Cooper ranks with the top 5-10 players if there were a category for "exciting, dynamic players." We'll soon see if those quick hands and feet will aggravate the crap out of better competition. I suspect NOBODY on any team we face is going to be thrilled to either have to guard her or be guarded by her. Her instincts are mindblowing to me.

But dang. That Hidalgo is a firecracker!

Don’t @ me. Thanks.

You know, there exists a reality where it may not be an upset. 💡🤞

…Huskies drop a few more, LVs open SEC play on a tear…
You never know, this year's Champion could be a 2 or 3 loss team. With all the talent around now, if you don't play your best a loss can come about by a less than NC contender.
