Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Why Kellie, why? Sure hope it means the university is fully into investing and funding the program. Otherwise why??

Yeah I’m worried about her. She’s a wonderful person and can coach for sure. She struggled to recruit at Tennessee though and I just don’t think that gets better for her at MIZZOU.

They’ll be tough but likely won’t ever be able to recruit enough talent there to challenge the top half of the SEC.

I sure wish we here could try to resist listing all her flaws on this hugely important day for the Harper family and for Mizzou. Hasn't it all been said enough already? Might it not be more kind and helpful to remember and celebrate all the things we admired and appreciated instead? Maybe give her a few days of sending positive vibes into the universe before then resuming the relentless dragging? It'd be nice! 🥹

She’s a big girl, she can handle it. She keeps putting herself in the situation. People are going to speculate.

She’s a great person and I wish her the best, but this is a questionable career move. Curious if her husband will be on her staff again.

i for one think she’s gonna do fine. She’ll have them in a lot better position than they have been in. She was always good with the portal. Missouri always had had solid players.

I think you’re under estimating how hard it is to recruit there. Robin was actually a pretty dang good coach, recruiting at MiZzou as bear. Kids just don’t wanna live there and it’s not a very good HS basketball state.

I’m quite surprised by the Missouri/Kellie Harper news.

I’m happy that she got another opportunity so quickly, since that’s clearly what she wanted. Whether it was a good want will remain to be seen. I really enjoyed seeing her improve on SEC network and thought she would continue excelling at that.

This fit may be her best opportunity at another p4 job. She has ties to Missouri from her previous position at Missouri State where she was relatively successful. Hopefully these ties mean recruiting will be a bit easier for her. I’m very curious to see if someone like Finley Chastein entertains a visit at Missouri. She’ll need a very solid recruiter and can’t repeat the Lacey G mistake that was made at TN. I can’t imagine that Missouri isn’t planning to further invest in NIL or what would have been the point?

I never thought she was a poor coach. She did have some significant wins in her first two seasons at TN. Her tenure was perhaps the perfect bell curve. Starting down and then up for the first two and half years reaching a peak, then back down the final two and half years.

I hope she finds successes that don’t include wins against TN. I assume she’ll be able to tolerate consecutive losing seasons in this position which could never occur at TN.

As off right now it seems like Football and Men's Basketball are top priorities at Missouri ....that's where the NIL money is being distributed.
I don't think she would've taken the job had she not been given guarantees about funds for NIL. I'd imagine MO is going to put some $ into the program. If not, they would've just kept Pingeton.

I think with the NIL now it’s hard to recruit anywhere. Got to have the 💰. There are so many kids willing to play their heart out just for a chance at D 1

you lost me at "proven recruiter"
She is one of two coaches to ever get 4 teams to the NCAA tournament and one of 3 to ever have 4 first round wnba draft picks in a row. That alone gives her credibility as a head coach. Also, on the recruiting side of things, it's not like she is moving up a level to start recruiting a different type of player. She has been building relationships with younger potential P-4 players for a few years. That might give her an advantage if she has some NIL funds available. Remember, Chastain and Brooks both wanted to play for her before the NIL funding exploded at Tennessee. The portal opens on March 25th. It will be interesting to see what kind of team she can piece together in year one.

Harper's first recruit was incoming freshman Jordan Horston, who chose to take a chance on Kellie out of high school after Holly was replaced. Tamari Key. Rickea Jackson was signed by Harper. Jewel Spear is a Harper recruit. Kellie landed Talaysia Cooper. Marta Suarez, still playing great at Cal, was a Harper recruit. Jordan Walker is a Harper recruit. Kaiya Wynn is a Harper recruit. Karoline Striplin and her power ponytail, a starter at Indiana, was Kellie's. Jillian Hollingshead. Outstanding Lady Vols in Puckett, Darby. Kellie signed the young but fantastic Kaniyah Boyd. Just off the top of my head, most are players Missouri would likely have loved to have, but they were all Lady Vols.

It's true Harper didn't fare as well with high school kids, but I think she came into the job at the worst time and after the brand had been severely damaged. That she was able to land so many terrific players out of the portal was impressive, I think, given the hole she had to climb out of.

So, yeah, I suspect she could do much better at Mizzou than some here might think she will. She's going to be stronger for having had her experiences at Tennessee, both the good and the painful.

Well said and all true. But if Mizzu isnt willing to go all in on NIL they'll be mid at best

I keep telling myself she would never knowingly put herself in that position again.

All great kids, but in the end, how many banners did they hang? It’s still sports, it’s still about winning.

With the exception of Cunningham and Blackwell, most of Missouri's best female basketball players go elsewhere, such as Napheesa Collier and Natalie Potts in recent years.

Why play the toughest schedule in the country as it means nothing?

An easier draw looks like the committee could be making up for the slight?

There's no chip on Dawn's shoulder. She has said all she'll say on the subject. From here on it's down to business for the ass kicking chickens.
Shouldn’t that be ass kicken’ chickens. Currently listening to some country music so….
