Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Probably because men's basketball is the big game in town at those schools, and (comparatively speaking) there isn't a lot of interest in women's basketball no matter how good the team is. Same issue to a lesser degree at Kentucky. They have one of the best players in the country, but still get minimal fan attendance.
Yes I think SC is one of the few schools that draws more fans to women's game than their men's teams does.

Even though I don’t really like them, UCONN and South Carolina are going to be fun to watch this season! Their rosters are soooooo freaking deep!!!!
Fun to watch? I watch their games and hope the play like sh** every time😂😂jk I am very interested in seeing how they make their loaded roster work

A lot of talk about SC and UConn yet Stanford has everybody back from the team that won the NCAA title so they are just as loaded and just as dangerous and just as much a contender as UConn and SC.

Yeah I don’t get it. I think Tara doesn’t play games with the media. She won’t let them in much so they choose not to cover her program as heavily. I expect them to wipe the slate clean in the PAC-12 and repeat. They are loaded and only lost Williams. PGs are Tara’s specialty. She’s never had much trouble replacing a point guard and Ana Wilson has returned and played much better last season. Van Gytenbeek is a terrific passer and showed real promise in limited minutes as a freshman playing behind several experienced guards.

Their forwards are the best in the country. I see them being the dominant team and the #1 team in the polls most of the season.

All 3 teams are loaded at every position.
And I’ll definitely give the slight edge to UCONN and SC!

They have everyone back AND a super loaded recruiting class.

Yikes I actually thought we’d beat Stanford this season! UCONN and SC, not so much! I just see the rosters so differently I guess!

I think all 3 are very good, but Stanford is the only team I’d call “stacked” this season. They go 2-3 deep with excellent, experienced, players at most positions. They’ll be able to spread minutes without losing anything on either end. They really have two entire squads that could be starting 5 at any P5 school.

SC is right behind them but will take a small hit going to their bench. Lots of talent over there but not the same caliber as their starters.

I think UCONN is missing some athelticism. What they brought in doesn’t address that. Juhasz is a great player but not overly athletic or speedy. McClean is their best athlete so we will see what she brings. I just don’t think they’ll be as great as everyone thinks. Still don’t think ONO can hang with true big girls. Juhasz definitely prefers to face-up and played a good bit on the perimeter at Ohio State but I’m betting Geno has her in the paint most of the time and sets her up for top of the key 3s off screening action.

Nooo I don’t think so. I actually think we have a great shot at SC and UCONN because we matchup pretty well with them. I do not think our forwards matchup well with Stanford at all and their 5 players can both shoot the 3 and are much more mobile than Tamari. Defensively I just am not sure we can guard Stanford.

The PAC 12 is a loaded conference you get better or you get crushed. Best conference in the country this year.

2021-22 Women's Basketball Roster - Duke University

I don't know why Duke is being left off this list. Kara may have used the transfer portal to build her team, but she is stacked with talent over there. If she can get that team to gel, they are going to be very dangerous not only in the ACC but nationally as well. She has a team full of High School All-Americans that have significant playing college playing experience at other schools.

I think they may be better than some teams he put on the list, but I think that about other teams as well.

Likely because they did not really play at all last season. Very difficult to know where to rank them with a new coach and no season a year ago. They’ll break the top 25 quickly if they play well to start the season.

I’m so over Charlie Creme. ESPN needs to go a different direction with their WBB coverage. Voepel and Creme are just boring and neither have a pulse on the modern game.

Creme’s analysis is skin deep and it’s clear he mostly only watch’s UCONN. Once he’s done discussing them it’s just piecemeal crap thrown together to complete the article.

They really need some young, talented sportscasters, like Draya Carter, to take over coverage of WBB. Would love to see more objective reporting. Everything from ESPN the last decade has been a UCONN love fest.

Just with the names and the talent on the team, you would assume they would rank them somewhere, although the ACC coaches have them picked to finish 8th. I am thinking Kara will be pulling a little bit out of Pat Summits' playbook to motivate this team. These highly ranked players, when interviewed went to Duke because of Kara primarily, her ability to get them to the next level and then the academics they could achieve there. You know they will work hard for her. She has their respect so she should hit the floor running with this group.

Yeah the first polls of the season are largely based on last season. I agree they have Top 25 talent now and a Top 25 coach. Remains to be seen what they do with it though. They’re gonna have to play their way in.

Half the players on this roster that were recruited between 2017 and 2019 had either UConn, South Carolina, Standford, Notre Dame or Tennessee in their final Fives. Yes, if they play well together, they will be tough to beat for most teams!

They lost their leading scorer and three year starting pg. I think she will be missed for sure. She was the only player who could consistently create their own shot and did it well.

I don’t think she will be missed much. She was a great guard for them but they have other, experienced options.

Ana Wilson has become a very consistent 3 point shooter (45% on 62 attempts) and has to be respected from out there. She’s a 6th year player with massive amount of experience who was playing behind Williams. She was way better % shooter from the field and from 3 compared to Williams just not as many attempted because she was playing backup. Very good A/TO for her as their back-up Pg a season ago as well. Just don’t think Williams graduation is going to slow them down much.

Van Gytenbeek is more of a setup PG which plays right into their hands with everyone else they have. She could have a breakout sophomore season as their backup Pg. I believe she’s a player that can average almost double digit assists if they play it right. All she has to do is hit the open player and it’s a done deal. With Hannah Jump, the Hull twins, Belibi, Brink, Jerome, Prectel, Wilson, Jones etc spread around she has choices for days.

We can all agree to disagree and i agree with you on the experienced, players at most positions but not by much. I think what make SC the best team out of the 3 is there athelticism and there bench. 6-7 Cardoso now gives Dawn an option to play Boston at 4 if needed. Also what`s big they get back 6-2 G/F LeLe Grissett. But what it all comes down to is the matchup i talk about this every year. You are correct UConn has some some athelticism but not a lot.

Neither those players are elite and yes Wilson is a good shooter but her role was a 3 & D player last year remains to be seen if she can run a elite team and still defend the best perimeter player on the other side. I’ve seen Van Gytenbeek and I think she will eventually be a good PG for them but I doubt she’ll be better at directing her team than Bueckers or Henderson. If that’s a criteria you’re using to keep Stanford on top. I think they’re going to take some lumps due to losing Williams. They would’ve lost to Louisville in the EE had she not gone off in the second half. Why do you think Tara said “Ki is Key”? She was a BIG reason they were successful much of last season.
