I respect Dawn and think she’s a very good coach. However, the statue is too much. Championship teams don’t have to try so hard to look like championship teams. You have NO clue why the statue of A’ja is there. None. And we can celebrate our team any way we want to. What Dawn is doing is working, whether we win one championship or 10. Right now she is on top of the basketball world. We all know how quickly that can change, but for now however many banners she wants to put up, SC fans will unapologetically support. We aren’t the only team to put up a banner for finishing the end of the year in first place, but we ARE the only ones to do it when there was no tournament. Duke WBB has a that says AP Final National Ranking #1 2004 . They have a similar one for 2003. The ironic thing is that UConn beat Tennessee both years for the NC. Again, I could care less about how they want to celebrate their program, but thought it was funny because UConn and Tennessee fans give SC such a hard time about their banners.

They have 12 players. 4 are injured, 4 have covid. That only leaves 4 players.Does anyone know why UConn has not been playing their games? I guess im open to speculation, but I also would like to know the rules regarding postponement and forfeiture. It seems like lots of teams still play with individuals out due to protocol, and UConn despite their injuries still should have plenty of players to field a team.
My opinion is however a school choose to put banners up or put up statues that's their choice.Agree. But I also understand from the perspective of other schools that it come off as bitter to complain about how they celebrate their success. They look at us for silly for celebrating the successes we’ve had the way we do but we’re celebrating because we see a resurgence while they celebrate because they feel they’re looking from the mountaintop.. and that’s ok
They should put up all the banners they want to. The problem comes in for them when they announce it on another schools website then get upset when we make a joke or comment they don't like about it. Then start in with we don't like SC which is ridiculous since we are Tennessee fans for the most part here so not going to get much love for their or any other program on this site. After Tennessee I don't like any team at all though some I dislike more than others. SC is certainly not on the top of the list of the teams I dislike the most although their fans are the main ones that are always posting here about how great they are. If you are going to post something like that or anything on another teams website then you should be able to take any posts that may come to that effect. You really can't let your narcissism show not going to help you get any sympathy. I'm for Tennessee and Tennessee alone I care nothing about what any other team does now in the past or ever.My opinion is however a school choose to put banners up or put up statues that's their choice.

If they want a statue of any player or anything other thing that is fine. If they want a covid banner or a banner for whatever that is their choice. The problem is they want everyone to embrace it just like they do and that is not happening. They can have anything and everything they care about just don't expect others not associated with SC to care or accept it.I agree the statue is too much. I do 1000% believe there should be an Aja Wilson statue on the campus of South Carolina. I think it would have been much more meaningful and appropriate if it happend when she was about 40 and Dawn about 70.
Aja accomplished a lot and contributed to that championship. But that championship was won on the backs of Gray and Davis after their transfer. Along with Mitchell and Coates. I thought that TEAM should have been celebrated. Not just one player from it.
All the greats at Tennessee and there is only one statue and it came when it mattered most. Seeing it always gives me so much hope. I do hope little girls and young women in Columbia look at Aja’s statue the same way I look at Pat’s. Whether I agree with it or not. She’s a huge part of that community. So rare to have a hometown talent like Ms. Wilson, and with such class.

It's not too much for Columbia and our state as it sends a clear message to where we were and how far we've come. You see that statue is located on a campus were Aja's grandmother because of her race was not allowed to cross.

Regardless of my thoughts on the statue itself, the context you've given is very powerful. I didn't know about the history Aja's family had with the university. It's not too much for Columbia and our state as it sends a clear message to where we were and how far we've come. No. Didn’t care. My team is the Lady Vols. Why would I give a darn about anything “Chicken” related? It’s laughable you chickens come here and expect Lady Vol fans to celebrate your team?
Y'all don't know the history of SC. We left the US to preserve slavery and started the Civil War in Charleston. Columbia was called the hot bed of secession and the reason Sherman's men burned the city. Our State House two blocks from Aja's statue is a bastion of monuments honoring the Civil War and the lost cause. We just recently removed the confederate flag from the State House grounds. The Ordinance of Secession still hangs on the walls of the main lobby.
