Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

The more we keep winning the more I’m confident we can take down South Carolina. UConn too but like someone said we have to break the mental wall that’s holding us back when facing UConn

Watching the UNC vs UND game this morning since I missed it yesterday.

UNC lost this game toward the end of the third and it is 100% Banghart’s fault. UNC had the momentum down 2 48-50 with about 1:00 remaining in the third.

One of the UNC guards knocked the ball loose but Westbeld very obviously got to it first. The UNC player shoved her to the ground and a foul was called. Banghart spent 2 minutes arguing with the officials and looking incredulous over what was, I thought, a very obvious call. Both in live action and after the replay. Instead of refocusing her team she continued to argue with Dee Kantner about the call.

Meanwhile UND pushed their lead back to 6 with two Westbeld FTs and a quick score. The rest was history.
She can recruit, but she’s not a terrific coach. I doubt they’ll ever get beyond the Sweet 16.

They are back to playing now and actually played two really really good teams . I don't think they drop as much as some might think. They could.... but i don't know plus the rhyne howard effect.

If they don't drop out... i think the Lady Vols should be put in the top 4 since it was a top 25 win without their center for half the game. I know they won't vault of Louisville who struggled with BC most of the game yesterday. But this team is playing with a chip so i hope they keep putting us where we are.
Indiana struggled to win. We should be #4.

Yeah that can’t happen. It has to stop. It was obviously an issue last season. It’s glaringly obvious it’s a problem this year. Last season the team driving me nuts was USF. They sat at #13 for WEEKS without playing a game. When they started playing again they had a distinct advantage over their conference opponents having a high rank beside their name that they did not deserve.

Arizona has been the same this season. I could not for the life of me understand how they were just sitting in the top 5 without playing.

Poorly managing your roster/COVID should not be an excuse to leave teams stagnant in the polls. IMO if teams miss 2 consecutive games they should drop from the top 25 and have to play their way back in.

If they play well on return they will obviously move up the rankings quickly. If they don’t, they don’t. But they should not sit in the top 25 not playing games.
I understand your frustrations but if the LVs are still cruising along in the top 8 and then on Feb. 15th have a Covid issue( pretty hard to manage) would it be fair that all of their prior good work is wiped out. Should their NCAA seeding be impacted because of their dropped ranking? This gets a lot trickier the closer you get to the NCAA tournament.

I never fault a kid for doing what they think is best for them. However, it’s clear those choices worked out best for Tennessee. We have a group who wants to be here. They’ve bought in to Kellie’s system and it speaks volumes in games. Another one you didn’t mention was Salary. I was expecting big things from her, but she looks the same as she did last year. Probably would be better at a mid-major.
I seem to think she did not leave of her own volition. I loved her. Kellie et. al. could have made a defensive pest out of her. IMO. Ole Miss was not a good spot for her.

Yes, honestly. The way I imagine it teams just drop out if they miss more than two games. Based on how they play when they come back they may re-enter wherever.

So say we don’t play the next two games. I would recommend they take us out of the polls for the next week and all teams below move up one.

Once we resume play, if we play well we re-enter the top 25 whenever the voters put us. Those polls don’t mean much for tournament seeding and I’m not saying we should do this with the NET. Just the AP and coaches polls.

Those polls are supposed to tell you where teams fit nationwide but with teams in there that aren’t playing you really do not get an accurate snapshot.

Good teams who manage their layoff well will play right back into the top 25.

What we are seeing more commonly is teams staying in place, returning and playing poorly, then dropping down the poll.

Georgia at Missouri tonight forgot who I took. I am taking Missouri at home.

This may not seem like a pivotal game to us, but it is a major game for both of the teams involved. It has become clearer by the day that S. Carolina and then UT and LSU right behind have separated from the pack SEC teams that are good but have some work to do to get into the upper echelon. Georgia is most likely to do so, but if Miz beats Georgia they might be that team given they beat SC and almost beat LSU in BR. My dark horse is Ole MIss, who no one in the national scene seems to mention.
