Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Texas A&M won the conference last season would have been great to have it there last season. Why does how good a team is come into play. They all have fans and I suspect every third or fourth year they would like the tourney held close enough that a large number of their fans could go. We know it is about money what isn't and that is why they will never hold it fairly in various locations. To add Alabama sucks at baseball but that doesn't keep it out of Hoover every season. Nebraska is terrible at baseball but they hold baseball championships there every season. It is about money sadly what everyone thinks about and dreams about every day of their lives.

Im just being realistic. Places bid on these tournaments. Evidently Greenville put in a bid that no one could beat. I realize A&M won last year but you don’t just award a place an entire tournament because their team won. Cities make millions of dollars on it. It’s a lot of work and they have to at least break even. We are talking about a week long venue. The cities where WBB is a hotbed are going to bid on these tournaments and that’s where they are going to be held.

Watched Iowa and Michigan. Iowa wanted it really bad. They played well today. Just hammered Michigan and moved the ball really well. They played physical as well. Lots of foul calls.

Clark is just fun to watch. The Iowa crowd is great as well. She has them on the edge of their seat the entire game. The crowd noises could be piped into the NBA. Lol

I’m going to be a homer here and say if you want the tournament to be where fans can have fun they should have it in Toon Town always. Greenville has a pretty downtown but they don’t have a fabo 10 block pub crawl. Was downtown Saturday morning and the place was already wild. TB hockey fans everywhere and live music already rocking at 11:00 AM. Plus it is in essence a neutral site since only West End Senior High is here.

I know that. However, there are many different ratings systems. It stands to reason that one would choose the most complimentary rating to substantiate their conversation, but a reasonable conversation would include all pertinent ratings and poll information.
Have no problem with being 11th in Massey, but that was not what I was talking about was talking about if sos has any meaning anymore. If it doesn't we could be at five losses this season just like North Carolina as they didn't play anybody of note in the pre-season. That goes mostly for LSU as well and that is why NC sos is 61 and LSU is 39 and our schedule produced an sos of 4.

We understand it is about money and we also understand they are going to hold it where they can come out with the most money. I totally understand what you are saying still not going to change my mind of being against it now and in the past. The fact that I am against how they do it has certainly no effect on what they do now or ever. If the 13 SEC other teams don't care how it is done and the seven or eight that have never had it close to them don't care then there seems to be no problem. I will always be for fair play and to several teams in the league the selection site has been unfair since the tourney began. I took that view in the past and I will continue to take that view because it is realistic and true whether any one cares to hear it or not.

I'm guessing you're also against the top 16 hosting first round NCAA games? It's true, choosing sites for both tournaments based on money is not fair at all, especially to lower ranked teams. But sad fact is the women's game is still a money loser so the powers that be are just not willing to lose more cash on "fair" and "neutral" sites.

Ole Miss not being ranked again, is puzzling to me. Both UGa and GA Tech have tanked, and in a way UT has as well. GA Tech has been swept by Miami, and beat by Purdue, Florida State, and Auburn. Ole Miss has 1 bad loss and that was to Belmont the 1st game of the season. Although Mississippi State did beat them as well. I just think Ole Miss is a top 25 basketball team.

They lost 4 of 5 once they broke into the rankings at #25, including a complete obliteration by SC. They did win 4 straight against the bottom half of the SEC, but got blown out again by SC yesterday. Rankings are very "what have you done for me lately?", and they've been trending downwards. I do agree that they are one of the top 25 teams, but the rankings don't necessarily reflect how good a team relative to one another (ex. no way is LSU better than UConn and Kentucky is better than a lot of teams receiving votes ahead of them).

The media polls are a joke - political votes based on geography and conference by AP subscribers, whose average age is now 29. Not like the old days when career journalists were the voters.

I'm also souring on Charlie Crème's Bracketology fantasy brackets. How in the world is Texas a 2 seed and Tennessee is a 5 seed?!

She deserves a chance. I’ll give it 3-5 years though. I think she had a lot of fuel to motivate them this season and having Smith to lead them was huge. Will be very different next season. Have to see if she can recruit as well.
They were in the drivers seat and lost to LSU, Vanderbilt, and Missouri down the stretch. Still she brought that team along far enough to get the job there. She loses a lot of key players will need to get in that portal.
