Seriously? Are we gonna sound like the UConn fans saying the game passed Pat by because she was "only" making FFs and Championship games but not winning it all? It sounded stupid when they said it, and it still sounds stupid when we say it here.

If it was a LV that finished with Crystal's accomplishments, she'd be celebrated.

She also wouldn't have won a NC if she went to Tennessee instead, so I'm not sure why people are bagging on her.

I'm not saying what she did was not a great accomplishment, I'm saying she didn't get what she went there for. She is a great player and worked hard I'm sure. She could have gotten all the other stuff no mater where she went. Dangerfield went to UConn for one reason.

As a Tennessean, even though I was disappointed Dangerfield chose to go to Connecticut, I said then I thought she made the best basketball decision for herself given our coaching staff at the time was in freefall. For all we know, she might have chosen Tennessee if it hadn't been so obvious to everyone that the program was flailing.

Anyway, I never rooted for Team Connecticut to win while she was there, but I was always a-okay with a fellow Tennessean performing well as an individual. Seemed like a good kid to me.

Facts and I said it when she (Dangerfield) made that decision that she wouldn't win one (a championship) and folks laughed at me. I also said I don't see Geno winning another one the moment Evina went there and trashed our program. Let's see if I am right about that prediction as well.

Honestly, I’m not overly sympathetic. Even being there around that time was idiotic. It’s been common knowledge for over a year that Americans should not be in Russia.

Then to be wandering around with drugs in her bag? Could you be any more irresponsible? It’s not like she blends into a crowd well over there.

I’m sad for her, but she’s currently lying in the bed she made for herself. It’s likely to turn into a political/diplomatic issue.

I don't usually like to get involved in these kind of discussions because they usually end up, in the current environment, devolving into partisan political arguments, but there are some aspects of this that I feel strongly about. Having said that, I must say that Griner chose absolutely the worst possible time to get arrested, regardless of the charge and her actual culpability. I think it is without a doubt that Putin and Russia will try to turn this into a political/diplomatic issue. And, I am equally without a doubt that the administration must not allow it to become such and allow the Russian administration to use it as a distraction, or a bargaining point. I realize that this may be unfortunate for Griner, but Putin and his cronies are acting as the ultimate bullies, and, in my opinion, the free world cannot and must not tolerate the actions of a bully and, most importantly, must not allow Putin and his cronies to benefit from their bullying actions. While this might result in Griner facing more serious consequences than she might under ordinary circumstances, that is unfortunate, but, again, in my opinion, necessary.

The reality is that this situation is entirely on Griner. Had her bags been clean she would be home instead of trying to cram herself into an undersized cot in a jail cell.
My question is - was it arrogance, ignorance, carelessness or stupidity that put her in this situation?

Even if it was all of the above, does the "crime" of having extra-potent vaping oil merit the punishment of months in prison under what are likely abysmal conditions? Personally, I don't think so. I wish people could have more empathy for her in this situation. Is she probably kinda dumb? Yep. I feel sorry for her that she was that dumb, but from all I've read about her she's a sweetheart.

They have a good chance of winning it this year, and will likely be the favorites to win it for the next two seasons after this one, so I wouldn't place any large bets against that happening if I were you.

P.S. This sums up my personal feelings about what I just typed: 🤢🤮
