Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Looks like UConn is bringing in their '23 recruit Jana El Alfy fm Egypt a semester early and she'll be joining the team this season. But not by Thursday, I'm sure.

Looks like our beloved LVFL Nikki Fargas has landed the Aces in a spot of trouble over the pregnant player. Social media war burning up. Kyra Elzy says hold my beer.

Hamby sounds unhinged. She’s making a lot of allegations she will very much have to prove. I do not think she will be able to prove them.

She signed her extension in June and I suspect she very much knew she was pregnant and did not disclose. When she announced her pregnancy she already knew the baby’s gender which means she was at least a couple months along.

I have a hard time believing a professional athlete, who is way more in tune with their body than the general population, would not know she is pregnant.

Also seems weird that she waited to announce it when she did. Why keep it a secret unless she knew it might mess up her job?

Most appropriate thing would have been to be up front with her team and take maternity leave as necessary.

Different topic, but as a GM I wouldn’t be keen on having a pregnant player actively playing. Where does the liability begin and end if something were to happen to the fetus? You take a hard knee to the stomach and that might be it.

Lots to unpack there. Those are my opinions.

Can't believe the league and the union haven't worked out everything imaginable about pregnancy long, long ago. Apparently not.

I'm afraid this whole thing is about to get swallowed up as a pregnant worker as victim narrative. In which case, the actual facts won't matter much and Nikki has no chance.

Matters in court. She will have to prove exactly when she knew. I have a feeling there is a lot more to this than what Hamby is putting out there.

Can’t tell me they didn’t think of this before they traded her. Aces must know the facts or they wouldn’t have opened this can of worms.

If the investigation finds that she was discriminated against as a pregnant worker (in particular one who is unmarried, which has apparently been mentioned behind the scenes), I will support her. Another complication to this issue though is that Hamby didn't play well last year, and with Vegas already having the shortest bench in the league, her lack of contribution caused them problems on the floor.

Well she might not have a choice? If they have to reschedule any other games it gets tough. They need bodies.
I’m pretty sure an athlete had to be enrolled in school by now to play this year. Kitts at SC had to be in by a deadline…….which is long passed, unless I’m wrong she won’t be able to play this season at UCONN. Maybe someone has better info and can tell us the rules.

We all know Geno is the NCAAs special little boy. Might be a rule change if they can’t get enough players together. 🙄

That's great, but if you're gonna be the dog I think you have to own your doggish behavior, and accept that alot of people aren't going to like it. Which apparently is what happened and why Reese felt the need to defend it. But don't explain, don't defend, and for God's sake don't hide it behind some cultural or gender excuse. Just woof away with abandon.

I'm really glad our dogs have the magical ability to do their barking in such a subtle way. I like that alot more than the super annoying Chihuahua yapping that was going on last night.

She did own up to it, but it's not of YOUR liking. People have said she was acting hood, ghetto, she wasn't fitting the narrative and she addressed it accordingly and stated she was ok with that. Yes your environment can have some influence. Not for everyone but for some yes. Alexis Hornbuckle use to trash talk, Candace Parker did, Shannon Bobbitt did, Rickea does now. I wouldn't say subtle is jumping in people faces, Candace was known to stare down her opponents after a nice block. Just go back and look at her highlights. That's exactly what Reese did. Stare down her opponents with choice words. Men do it all the time in the men's game. Don't know how many times I have heard "Get that **** out of here", after an emphatic block. Now if people don't care for her just cause she is shocking the SEC with her play then so be it, but I haven't seen anything that warrants all this hatred for her being colorful.

No matter what the rules are, I don't think she will be playing. There are two good things about her coming early:
1- She can still practice with the team and learn some of the nuances of their offence, as well as working out with the strength coach.
2- She has been Home Schooled, so it would benefit her to get used to classes with other students as well as teachers.
She can be an important part to our puzzle, especially if we continue to have missing pieces.

Rickea Jackson plays with swagger! There’s a difference.

So does Reese. If Reese was playing for us no one would be saying anything. Just like no one on this board was saying anything when CP was playing for us. I would say swagger is getting a block with one hand while holding a shoe in another. Then giving a stare

If Reese was playing here I doubt that’ll be her on court disposition.
Take the Miss State game as an example.. RJ did absolutely nothing but smile/laugh after an opponent stepped in her face and got substituted out for an unnecessary break!
But Rickea J just has that natural swag… it’s not the same!
