Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Reese is what you call a dog. It's what every team needs. It's what Tennessee needed before Rickea came this year. Rickea is our dog
That's great, but if you're gonna be the dog I think you have to own your doggish behavior, and accept that alot of people aren't going to like it. Which apparently is what happened and why Reese felt the need to defend it. But don't explain, don't defend, and for God's sake don't hide it behind some cultural or gender excuse. Just woof away with abandon.

I'm really glad our dogs have the magical ability to do their barking in such a subtle way. I like that alot more than the super annoying Chihuahua yapping that was going on last night.

Azzi Fudd is on crutches with a knee brace, with instructions not to put any weight on that leg. No surgery and nothing torn, but for the exact problem, we are in the dark. Caroline Ducharme, Geno pointed her out at practice for the media and said she is sitting on the bench like she wasn't picked for a pick-up game. Said nothing about her condition, so nothing said is not good news. Patterson may try to go Sunday. Right now, the 5 players now are pretty good, but they are tired. The 6th and 7th on the bench are the 9th and 10th players when we have all 10 available, so substitutions are rare. This is probably the team that will play next Thursday, and possibly against. SC. Right now, all we want is to get healthy for March like we did last year, but until then, games against the really good teams may not be pretty.
Just found out that Jonathan, the UConn Husky mascot just underwent surgery, so the saga continues to grow. LOL

Good start for Utah at Stanford. Up 10-5 early.

This is going to be a good game. Utah is really good. Stanford up 2 beginning second qtr.
Utah hasn’t really beaten anyone yet though, unless you count Alabama and Ole Miss as good wins….Oklahoma is not looking like a good win lately. They split with Colorado. That’s it.

if you review the 4000 plus recuritment thread when Reece was a senior you will find she took an official visit, and it was curtailed and she wrote on some social media to a friend at UCLA that her visit was "less than a serious one: her behavior was reported as not-of an appropriate standard and she was no longer considered.

If you look at the Huskies season stats, really the only big weakness is their 3 - point shooting defense (they ranked near the bottom - I think they gave up close to 35% prior to Butler game). They are also just so-so on their overall defensive point shooting. We need our shooters to step up including Puckett as well as our defense to contain their offense.

Auriemma has said that 3 point shots are a lower percentage shot so he focuses the defense more inside the arc. That has burnt them a few times when opponents get hot from outside but overall it's probably a good strategy against any team that does not have good outside shooters. I think that at least on paper UConn has an advantage from outside. They are 4th in D1 in made 3 point percentage and 59th in 3 point defense. Tenn is currently ranked 185th in 3 point offense and 202nd in 3 point defense. However, these stats are probably partially skewed because of Tennessee's slow start.

No those stats are pretty spot on. We aren’t a good outside shooting team, aside from Tess and Pissott. Puckett hasn’t really be able to find her stroke this year, and Striplin seems like she has a good stroke, just doesn’t take enough. Horston started the season shooting well from the 3, but has tapered off significantly as the season went on.

Overall, we’re really streaky, when it comes to outside shooting and the numbers show.

UConn's defensive strategy is not their typical front court pressure. They are in a situation where no one can get into foul trouble and they defend that way. Technically they are very good. They concentrate on moving their feet more and only challenge shots going straight up. No fouls 25 feet from the hoop.
