Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Same she’s a natural on TV and has great insight. One of the few coaches I think was actually better in that capacity.

Shes one of my favorite commentators as well. Was sad to see her go to Ga Tech in the first place. Her retirement is also a cruel reminder of time and its coming for us all.

Totally different but in the same vein of retirement. It was so nice to see Jody Conradt enjoying Texas EE game right behind the bench.

Out of all the legends I think she had it right. Saw the writing on the wall and that it was likely downhill and not uphill for her career at 66. Retired in 2007 but now gets to enjoy the success of Texas from the sideline in her golden years.

Makes me sad Pat won’t get to do the same, since the disease robbed us of her. I don’t think Pat would have ever retired if she didn’t have to though.

Thought the same thing. Pat should be sitting right next to Jody enjoying the fruits of her labor.

No, Pat wouldn't have, not for a very long time. And she would have retired with at least 4 more national titles, maybe more. A lot of great players would have broken her way in recruiting over the years. Would have set a record for number of wins that would never be sniffed by anyone else in the history of the sport.

Did you read the entire post? I said she likely never would have retired unless forced to do so like she was.

Uh, pardon? I just echoed the sentiment that Pat wouldn't have retired for a long time? And lamented the idea of missing out on another decade of dominance?

"I don’t think Pat would have ever retired if she didn’t have to though." --> "No, Pat wouldn't have, not for a very long time."

Yeah, Auriemma lucked out in the all-time wins category. Possibly in the national championships, too, although beating them in the Stewart era would have been a tall order. Might had picked up a few since then, though.

Looks like Adia Barnes is headed to SMU. AZ let her walk away instead of firing her. Something had to give there though. That looked like a really toxic situation from the outside looking in.

Wonder if some of their players might return depending on the hire? Would guess most will go ahead and transfer but surely AZ can hire a decent coach.

When I was on Hulu getting ready to record the semifinal games, I noticed some ESPN WCBB documentaries. One was on Pat and Geno. I’ve seen other shorter films on their relationship but this one impacted me more.

I would be interested in knowing anyone who has viewed it what their reaction was to it. Fair?
Unbalanced?

One thing that stood out for me on a very personal level is that even though I am a devout UConn fan, I miss Pat.

What’s it called? I’ll give it a watch today at the gym.

Here is a stat Tennessee has been in the National Championship game 13 times won 8 lost 5. UConn has been in the Championship game 12 times won 11 lost 1. They are playing in their 13th title game Sunday. So either Tennessee or UConn has been in the title game 26 times out of the 41 times it has been played. Notre Dame has been in it 6 times and is 2 and 4. South Carolina has been in it three times and are 3 and 0. This will be their fourth time. Baylor is 3 and 0. Stanford 3 and 2.

Your math is off a little, I believe, since UConn and Tenn played in the same championship game three times as I remember. So that would mean one of the two teams was in the championship game 23 times.

Do the math for the Final Fours both teams have been in and it gets even more impressive.

💯

And CKC will have the LVs adding to the FF total soon enough, I believe.

HH posted some “apology” (if you can call it that) addressing her lingering IG post scandal.

The whole “I was misinterpreted” line made me laugh. The fact that she waited this long to make a statement — if you were that worried about how it would be perceived you would have said something about it months ago.
