Norman-Lott

I try my best not to pile on an individual player…but dude is out of control and has serious potential to cost us…

I’m floored that his “hand check” on van de Griff wasn’t 15yds…absolutely should have been and likely would have been against a team with more clout like Bama or UGA…just a downright stupid and unnecessary thing to do…

His 15yd face mask was completely unnecessary…wasn’t an accident at all…he did it to rip the guys helmet off…extended the drive which would bite us against UGA or in the playoffs…

Rewatch the game and notice what he did almost every time he got near the UK bench…ran at them like he was about to do something…just asking for some s*** to start which with his reputation is just as likely to be a flag on him as it is anyone that retaliates…

Again, I hate to pile on but dude is downright out of control…I understand it’s a violent game and you have to play with an edge but it has to have some level of control to it too…with our depth and talent at DL and his slightly above average talent level (i.e. not enough to warrant the risk) I don’t understand why he sees the field
Not making excuses but it looked like his finger got caught in the face mask. Not sure that is the case but grip looked funny as he pulled it. Still not the way to handle it.

You’re assuming Coach wants him to change to cookies and milk. I believe what I’m seeing is a coach letting his player be who he is. Sounds like me and coach speak the same talk.
Ahh, I see your issue. You think it's either off the rails or cookies and milk.

God Forbid there's a medium like numerous great athletes who are great competitors, like Reggie was and absolute terrors for the opposing team, but not absolute idiots who just stomp people like Haynesworth.

But that's typical of poor arguments, press it to the extremes for effect. Good day.

There you go again. Seems your issue is with RG and not ONL. The fact you’re going back 40 and 20 years to continue to discuss shows you’re out of touch and really reaching. Maybe take that up with RG at the Vol Walk and let him know how players need “discipline”. Would love to see the STFU he gives you. Come back around if you want to revisit this, you tried. Go Vols, great no call.

I thought his hand was caught in there too but he seemed to release pretty easily so I'm not sure. I'm less concerned about the facemask because "grab the guy with the ball" is the job and the big guys don't always have a great view or choice of what they can grab.

It's the ticking time bomb feeling of some athletes, we saw it with Jeremy Banks, that worries me for Lott's future. These days, right or wrong, the NFL is pretty protective of players, especially QBs, and that's where the big money, recognition, and career will be for Lott if he can get his head straight.

6 pages for this soft a** non-call? Guess I will add my 2 cents to make it longer
Could it have been called? Sure
Should it have been called? Absolutely not
Will UT fans stop looking for the negative in every single action of every single week? Doubtful

Imagine if he'd just stood still on lowered his shoulder and let him run into a brick wall.

This one understands

I would say since a lot of Vol fans are calling him out. The word is out, even Vol fans want a flag. You can bet the officials have been notified by Sankey etal that even Vol fans are mad at the refs for not throwing a flag. So expect one this week and 2 or 3 vs UGA then everybody on here will say now, were even. I'm good. I guess or maybe they'll complain some more.
I'm going with complain & 3itch, its what they live for.

You cannot be serious.
100% serious. It's football.
It's amusing to me when folks like you with 10K+ posts make posts like this. It tells me you should spend more time watching and understanding the game and less time posting as an offended armchair QB looking for overreacting outrage.

I made a comment previously about Boo Carter's behavior during the critical play of the Bama game. That was definitely a play that could have and in all reality should have been flagged for taunting. ONL was on his sidelines and behind the white stripe. That is his territory, not the running QB who is running into his space, which is NOT a flaggable penalty. Even the QB for Kentucky knew this because he didn't jump up and be outraged. He jumped up and went back to his huddle. That tells me all I need to know.

Finally and to quote another member of the board on this subject:

So go ahead and continue being outraged at a situation in-game that wasn't flagged for a penalty because it wasn't a penalty.

I cant decide if some of yall just need something to complain about, don’t understand football or are just here to stir up crap however possible.

This defense is at a level we have not seen in decades and yall think we need to be nicer. When we lose a game because of someone's actions, i feel confident that CTB amd CRG are capable of handling the situation...without comment from the peanut gallery

How'd his behavior work out in life? He's had numerous arrests IN THE REAL WORLD for being essentially a dumbass.
Didn’t be sign the biggest NFL contract for a non-QB and didn’t he marry Brittney Jackson? I’m thinking he pulled off some pretty awesome goals all before his mid 30’s.

I thought the catching of the QB on the sideline was toeing the line, but the more I hear it from the angry village people, the less I feel like it was anything at all. It sounds quite ridiculous when people try to act like the guy’s health was in jeopardy. If you’re a little guy, you move out of the way. When you’re a giant, you catch people. Nothing to see here.

Well said, non-giants wouldn’t understand the gift of size

Lott has NFL talent and CRG could choose to limit his snaps during the Mississippi State game to make a point.

I am sure they will remind him to stay smart and disciplined while keeping the intensity. I guarantee you they see the film and talk about things. Lott is a high energy guy, but he will be fine. I don’t think he intended on kicking the football and the face mask penalty was just bad luck it looked like to me his finger got caught in the mask as well more than he was hanging on. I agree on the sideline thing he needs to not extend his arms out that early with a guy coming at him. But he didn’t apply with force he could make argument he was just protecting from collision. But I am sure that they talked about that as well. Not worried, I think Lott will be fine. GBO

Agree on both. The fact that Vandagriff didn't even react, just got up and ran back to the huddle, and no Kentucky players seemed to react at all pretty much makes it a non-issue. Still shouldn't have done it, but the announcers made more of it than anything.

The face mask was so unnecessary, as the sack was already completed. Looked kind of like he got his hand caught in the face mask and jerked the helmet off trying to remove it.

Norman-Lott also jumped offside when Kentucky was pinned deep, and got away with it when they called a false start. He looked like he knew he was guilty, but we caught a break.
Great analogy of the entire situation. GBO

I feel sorry for people who go through life never getting it. If your Brother sins, it's not ok because he is your Brother. That kind of stuff would have Never happened under the General, who most on Volnation revere as the greatest Coach ever. Standards should hold up regardless of time passage. Play as hard as you can, but respect your opponent. I've been around here since 2008. I see you just got here. It takes time........

The face mask was NOT intentional. That happens sometimes when you are grabbing at the runner, falling down, and someone trying to block you during a fast moving play. Anybody who says that was intentional prolly never played on defense.

Come on. He was on the ground and STILL pulled the face mask. Ripped the helmet off while ON THE GROUND. It was, without a doubt, intentional.

You keep saying you know something since "you've been here since 2008" and I will keep saying you don't.
You are wrong plain and simple. The refs saw no penalty. The SEC saw no penalty. No flag was thrown. No suspensions were given. The Kentucky kid didn't even bat an eye at it (because he knows what I know).
The more you continue to defend your position, the more you expose your lack of football knowledge (all 10K+ posts of it).

My favorite part was him holding the facemask in his freaking hand while ... pleading his case to the ref.

More frustrating to me is the number of times our DL line up in the neutral zone. Seems like we get called for it every game, and there were multiple times players had to adjust just before a snap to keep from being called again. That is elementary football that is defenseless at this level. I can accept ONL’s sideline “shot” on the QB, play was coming right at him at game speed. Lining up offside is just inexcusable.
True this….
