Norman-Lott

I want ONL on my team all day everyday!! You pray for rain you gotta deal with the mud. This sport is violent, and players are emotional. Some players are on that line the whole game, sometimes they cross it. I am a HUGE ONL fan and you should be too...He loves cats and the fans. This dude gave up celebrating the BAMA win his teammates to stay on the field to snap photos with every fan that wanted a photo.
That’s what I’m yodeling! Some here never got in a street fight..and others planned to make sure if they were in a street fight, they knew they had the right ones on their side. I’ll take Lott all day while others take choir boys and wonder why they lose.

I try my best not to pile on an individual player…but dude is out of control and has serious potential to cost us…

I’m floored that his “hand check” on van de Griff wasn’t 15yds…absolutely should have been and likely would have been against a team with more clout like Bama or UGA…just a downright stupid and unnecessary thing to do…

His 15yd face mask was completely unnecessary…wasn’t an accident at all…he did it to rip the guys helmet off…extended the drive which would bite us against UGA or in the playoffs…

Rewatch the game and notice what he did almost every time he got near the UK bench…ran at them like he was about to do something…just asking for some s*** to start which with his reputation is just as likely to be a flag on him as it is anyone that retaliates…

Again, I hate to pile on but dude is downright out of control…I understand it’s a violent game and you have to play with an edge but it has to have some level of control to it too…with our depth and talent at DL and his slightly above average talent level (i.e. not enough to warrant the risk) I don’t understand why he sees the field
It's the one time an incompetent officiating crew worked in our favor

Used to be when OP started a post with player name only, it meant he was arrested by the police.
Progress.
Yep. At least we aren’t having to worry about the Fulmer Cup or the shenanigans that went on at Florida under Urban Meyer.

Really? Ignore it if you want, but those two incidents, ESPECIALLY the sideline slap; could cost the entire team. Do you really want that to be what UT Football looks like?
Yes, really. I'm cool with it. So far he's helped the team a ton and hurt the team zero. He's made it through half the season walking a fine line. Here's to hoping he makes it the rest of the way.

By your definition Albert Haynesworth is a guy you'd like to have on your side.

I kind of understand the brutality required to play the trenches but there's no room for ridiculous, "I want the guy tested for anabolic steroids," kind of out of control behavior on the field. It's still just a game, after all.

I'm always baffled by guys who say "This is the man I'd want in a firefight" about guys who go off the rails in games. Seriously, the guy you want beside you in battle is a guy who does his damn job, not some "LeeeeRoooooooy Jenkins" idiot.

The guy stuck his hands out to protect himself and the face mask was a regular football play.

Some of yall are on some other stuff.
anybody who thinks straight arms at head height are “protecting yourself” should be interested in buying a bridge I own in Brooklyn. If BVG were flying over the boundary at ONL’s knees, ONL would have gotten out of the way. It was a minor cheap shot. Some people focus on the minor, some on the cheap shot.

That stuff all ends up in the league office. Whether it draws extra scrutiny for a player or team depends on the crew.

Yes. Give me 2x4 at practice swinging Haynesworth. Seems he did his damn job …they dont had out 1st round draft picks for meeting expectations.

There's talent and there's discipline. Both are needed. With enough talent, like Haynesworth, you hope you can instill discipline.

How'd his behavior work out in life? He's had numerous arrests IN THE REAL WORLD for being essentially a dumbass.

Get a grip and stop posturing. It's possible to be both tough and disciplined. This myth that a guy has to be "a little crazy" to be dominate should've been put to bed with Reggie: a good man and a beast who did his job on and off the field.

We talking life or we talking football? We’ve had plenty of players excel on the field with discipline and lose at life. Not sure that’s an area to go.

Again, good no call. Sorry we won the game and not sorry a fake penalty wasn’t called on ONL.

That particular call is not that concerning. Quasi-dirty play happens all the time and part of discipline is making it look reasonable so you don't hurt your team. Lott was pretty obvious that he didn't care what happened to the team by his actions AND it's not the first time he's acted like that.

EVERY SINGLE GOOD COACH stresses how important discipline is to success at the game. EVERY SINGLE ONE IN EVERY SINGLE SPORT.

Just stop posturing that "wild badasses" make the best players to have. That's just not the case.

Got it, I’ll take this defense and you take your Dooley mentality defense and we will call it a day. Go Vols and good no call.

Just for the record, what’s the penalty that should have been called? Unsportsmanlike doesn’t say he has to move or keep his hands down. Maybe if you say “postering” one more time the SEC will step in.

What part of that no call doesn't matter BUT the obvious disregard for his team by walking the edge (sometimes over it) with no discipline does not help the team.

It's that kind of crap, and I trust Rodney Garner to peel the paint off the walls in discussing it with him, that undermines overall discipline. If he can do that, why can't Pearce start behaving like an idiot and tempt penalties?

People go off all over about the lack of discipline instilled my coaches like Prime, but suggest that UT should have discipline and suddenly butts hurt.

I used to posture that I was badass too. I matured. Try it.

Two things:

Of all the UT coaches I'd trust to see and correct a problem, Rodney Garner would be my first choice. Where's Rodney on this?

Is he early CTE? Dumb, inappropriate behavior. Failure to control emotions. I wonder what his behavior is like off the field.
Probably an ADHD diagnosis or ODD. This doesn't go away because a kid graduates high school and is over the age of 18.

I think that is a good place to look at Lott if I'm an NFL GM. Nobody needs a loose cannon at the next level.

I'm not arguing that the game and the trenches aren't violent and brutal, I'm arguing that discipline makes a player better, not worse.

Did you have this same energy with Pili earlier in the year? Something tells me you didn’t, but correct me if I’m wrong. Labeling or trying to insult other posters isn’t maturing, it’s just a different approach to the same model. Glad to see my post doesn’t come across as weak minded but direct and to the point. Believe RG allows ONL to be who he is this far into his career and the season.

I trust Coach Garner to want Lott to have a successful career well beyond UT and I hope Lott does have a great career. Talent alone won't do that and, again, I trust Coach to "discuss" his future with Lott AND his potential impact on the the team this year.

Pili was an absolute, in control, professional level leader for UT from the moment he got to Knoxville. I've nothing but respect for how he handled himself. He knows discipline wins games, not aggression.

Letting someone "be who they are" is EXACTLY what coaches shouldn't do. What the heck do you think a coach does? Lott has issues with making stupid decisions AND he's a very good player. He NEEDS coaching, not "just let him be who he is at this point."

By your logic, why have coaches at the NFL level? "Just let them be what they are at this point....."
🤦‍♂️

You were doing a lot of zigging and zagging and struggling staying on topic. There are numerous ONL in the NFL. Drafted in all rounds.

Guess you allow those late thump QB hits to slide by Pili. Can’t pick and choose my guy. Seems you have a deeper issue.

Pili showed nothing but a desire to help the team. Aggressive, for sure, and with some mistakes but if you compare Pili's overall playing attitude with Lott's attitude, there's no doubt...... Pili showed more discipline, more willingness to grow from his mistakes, etc than Lott.

Never said Lott wouldn't get drafted but I am saying that sideline push gets called in the NFL every time. I trust he's told that by his coaches and I'd like to be a fly on the wall when Coach Garner discusses that film with the D Line. I feel pretty certain he'll be more direct and harsh about it than I can imagine.

As I said, RG is letting ONL be who he is. There’s your fly in the wall moment. Interesting that you backtrack on Pili playing aggressive and making mistakes but hold ONL to a different standard because you believe one over the other wants to help the team win. So again, good call on no flag.

I don't doubt for a moment Pili was COACHED about his hits that were questionable and he learned from them.

What I'm hearing is: it's too late to coach Lott so Coach Rodney Garner has just given up and is going to let him do what he does.

I'd REALLY REALLY like to see you express that opinion to Coach Garner.

You’re assuming Coach wants him to change to cookies and milk. I believe what I’m seeing is a coach letting his player be who he is. Sounds like me and coach speak the same talk.
