Not General Booth's Salvation Army any more

Well I will be re-directing my annual Christmas check to them to either Shiners, Tunnel for Towers or St John’s.

Did anybody read the article?

The group also denied suggesting the U.S. is inherently racist and said it did not tell people to apologize for "being white."
recommended white people within the charitable organization “lament, repent and apologize for biases or racist ideologies held and actions committed.”

They didn't deny the content 'white people should apologize" and doubled down saying it was meant to foster a dialogue inside the group.
I'm sorry, no one should be encouraged to apologize for something they cannot control like the color of their skin. It's a shame the folks aided by donations will suffer this year but maybe it is time for SA to rethink it's leadership.

So nobody was told to apologize for being white, then.
No. That’s a stretch.

They asked white people specifically to offer a sincere apology for the effects of racism. And to repent on behalf of the church if they feel they have nothing to apologize for.

Did you actually read the Guide that was posted in this thread?

The Salvation Army is a religious organization. A religious organization encouraging people to apologize, lament, and repent for having racist thoughts and actions seems like par for the course. I do have a problem that they only called out white people, but that is not even close to the same thing as encouraging people to apologize for being white. When you hear that, you should be able to smell the ******** from a mile away. What they are actually saying is controversial enough that we shouldn't muddy the waters with BS.

I read the guide before they conveniently deleted it. I don't need to listen to the liberal spin that you, Newsweek, CNN, MSN, etc. put on this. As far as I'm concerned, The Salvation Army can go under. They will be replaced by other charitable organizations that aren't as liberal and arrogant.

I don't read it as saying all white people should apologize for racism. I read it as saying white people who have had racist thoughts and actions should apologize....

Only white people were told to apologize for their biases or racist ideologies held and actions committed. They were singled out maybe not just for their skin color but they were definitely highlighted

It's brought up many times in these SJ circles that white people are guilty whether they know it or not

How convenient for The Salvation Army. The link to the Guide is now broken.
They already stated that the Guide has been pulled for internal review.

This whole thing did not come from Salvation Army “central command” or HQ.
This all came from a specific, distinct department within SA dedicated to “Social Justice”

Sounds like HQ said “no” after the fact and pulled it back.

Having a Social Justice department or commission is enough reason for me to find another charity.

I’m not trying to absolve them of any of this. This was all very foolish imo.
Just a point of clarification.

That Social justice department still operates under the umbrella of Salvation Army USA. They “own” it…

the "anti-racist" view promoted by Kendi supports your comments. If you are adopting his views then you are agreeing that unless you actively fight to dismantle the system you are participating in white supremacy.

it's a garbage philosophy fraught with tautology but what's scarier is that so many companies swallow it and put it in their training programs.

it's fine for a class where alternative viewpoints are presented and debated. it's dumb and wrong to use it for training purposes as if it is reality.

That's BS. HQ pulled it back only when it began to become widespread public knowledge and TSA started losing donations.

I agree. Those are donated dollars that this supposed charitable organization is spending on political activities. They should lose their status as a charitable organization, but you know that will never happen with the socialists running the Biden administration.

I saw lots of similar "voluntary" programs at places where I used to work. One was a large corporation and the other was a school district.

The programs were not voluntary. People understood that top management was supporting the program so each lower level of management would "voluntarily" adopt the program to placate the level of management above it.

The great thing is we can always offer help and support to organizations that aren't openly racist. I also have learned to always question the actual use of funds for organizations like this especially when they start toeing a statist line- I've witnessed enough left-leaning individuals and organizations siphoning money off for their leadership's personal use to make me very wary.

We can all make a bigger impact on lives through individual actions anyway.

To be fair, the Salvation Army is one of the best charities one can give to in terms of % of donations actually making it to those it intends to help. One of the bad ones is United Way, although there are a few exceptions in local chapters.

But yeah, this is disappointing. I've always given and volunteered to ring the bell; enjoyed doing it. If this is true, well, going to find someone else to support.
