Not Impressed

I didn't say because we beat them they're bad. They're just not that good of a team IMO. Did we or did we not leave at least 3 TD's on the board? I'm not knocking the win, hell I almost hit the score perfect. We did what I thought we would do. I think if we played them in 2 weeks we'd hang 50 on them.

I kinda agree........ But I want to look at it as we are that much better of a team and they NCST are lucky we only beat their ass by 14....... Not that they are that bad but we are that GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

pulled this win out of their rear ends. I must have been watching a different game. Maybe we should have won by 4 TD's..i don't disagree with that...but I'll take this win with a few things to work on and improve. Have you watched any preseason NFL games? For a first game, I'm fairly pleased. Plenty to work on but plenty to be excited about. Not saying we're winning a national title, but don't think anybody was predicting that.

You see, my friend, that is the difference between you and me. Tennessee Football is not about being satisfied with the current win, it is about winning National Titles.

I can fill my cup (and yours too). I served eight years in the USMC (did you serve?).

My point is that our players pulled this win our of their rear ends (no help from play calling). This will not be enough in the SEC. BTW, we play in the SEC.

So since we play in the SEC, you think last nights SC team beats tonight's UT team, not a chance. We may not be where we were 10 yrs ago, but by god we are light years ahead of last year. This team has focus and tackles like no other UT team in the past 10 yrs. Mistakes did not rattle the team. They pressed on and got the W. Not sure the year, but I remember a UT team that lost a fumble on the 1 at half and gave up 7 on it against UGA. They crumbled after that. Granted we did not give up the 7 tonight, but the reversal of momentum could have been a killer. Don't get me wrong. Dooley still has A LOT to prove, but tonight was a great leap forward for him and this team. GBO!!!

I hate to tell you but play calling is only part of it. Execution in football is more important than play calling. In the SEC, the way we played tonight on defense, we'll be just fine. Our offense will make enough plays to put points on the board. Secondary get their kinks worked out and we'll be damn good. No need to worry about play calling tonight. Thanks for your time in the Marine Core.

Hell yes I did. When someone attempts to check my Man card, I tend to do that. Did you serve?
Get some.
Tell me about it.

nope. does that some how make me less of an american or even man? Being a Marine doesn't make you special. When you come on here talking that crap it just makes you an internet bully.

P.S

My father served in Vn and to this day I have never seen him feel the need to call other people out our use it for proof of his manhood. That sir, is what makes a service man special.

Our play calling is suspect. The real match up was our running backs (or tight ends) against the NC State linebackers; we failed to exploit this advantage. We should have beat this team by 3 touchdowns.

Initially, I thought that we would have 10 wins this season; now, I say that we will be lucky to win 8.

We have the players, we just don't have the ability to exploit opportunities...and that is coaching.

Obviously, NCS is not Florida or Alabama but you still failed to take not of our improvement. Especially on defense. The last few years have seen soft and slow TN defenses. Tonight our D was faster, hit harder; and most of all, had few missed tackles. The increased speed was particularly evident with pressure on NCS's qb. Also, you missed the quite obvious: we even had a semblance of a running game.

If you mean that last part then you know this team has very good potential to win in the east.

Like I said in another thread. We have a long row to hoe. NCSU is a middle of the pack ACC team.

If Bray gets that QB sneak in before halftime, we do win by 3 touchdowns, numb nuts.

21 years of service and counting for me pal and your glass is definitely half empty. We were sloppy at times but this was a good foundation we will build on and everyone on here knows we will have to play better in the SEC jerk. How about we enjoy a win and let the coaches clean up the mistakes? GBO!

Good post........ I for one am proud of our team and proud of our coaches........ Good job Men!!!!!!!!

3TDs would of been nice. Need to shake of some opening game shakes but I am not complaining about that game one bit. Beat the spread by 11.5 points had both big plays and substantial drives. Played in the second half and made some big plays on D. Very excited after this game.

A Win's A Win Be Proud Of The Vols And Leave It At That!!... Do We Have Things To Work On?? Hell Yes!! It was the first game of the season we made a few mistakes but we are also learning a new defence under a new coach give them a little credit i mean they showed signs of greatness 4 Int's? not including the safety and hurrying the QB!!...and Bray burning one of the best CB's not once but twice?.... if you don't like how the vols played just go ahead and go join the rest of the bandwagon bama fan's or im sure franklin would love to have you as a vandy fan!!

GBO!!!

It's tough to judge after a team like NCSU. I wanna see how we do against teams with a good run game and a solid defense. I know we have some explosive offensive weapons but we will HAVE to be able to stop the run as well as run ourselves in the SEC.
But anyone complaining about this win is crazy. The team did what they were supposed to do.

Assume you are joking, this is the number 2 team in ACC, we should have won by more than 20 If not for bad play calls by Chaney.

Need work on running game, but doing 4 picks against on of top 10 QBs in the nation. 5th year senior, makes good decisions..etc.. Was impressive. It means Sals defense worked as expected. No more sitting back...go and get them and see what happens.

solid post.

When we move into conference play, you will understand the intent of my post. Check back then.

I was impressed with the improvement but must agree with some of what you said. The switch to an attacking defense from a passive defense , excellent. Patterson , excellent. Running game much improved. Oline , much improved. Mental toughness , excellent.

I agree and had an issue with offensive playcalling. Most of running plays were come out of the gun or pistol and almost all was edge running. This will just not be possible against Bama or UGA , probably not even Florida. I like a 'finesse' running game , but there come a point when you must have a dominating , between the tackles running game. That is a requirement to win the SEC. It baffles me that with one of the biggest Olines in the SEC , we either refuse to do this or are unable.
If after most of the second quarter , we had went power run out of a traditional proset or I form , and used playaction and TE passes , we would have slowed the game down , ran the clock and broke their back. But here was are slinging it around midway thru the 4th ...just begging to give the ball back to an explosive offense.

Happy with the win ...but afraid this approach is going to burn us in SEC play
