not taking Vandy seriously

Yes Murphy rushed for some yards, so did Mauck. Robbinette is nothing like those two. We would have offered him if he was.

Vandy has to do something before they should be taken seriously. 5 wins in the last 50 years doesn't do it.

The legendary coaches of CFB taught their teams to respect every opponent. Hate to say it, but the latest is saban.

If you don't take every team on our schedule seriously, you've been under a rock the
past 5 years.

I think this is what disappoints me the most.

We have to take vandy seriously.

It's OUR STATE. We own it. Now act like it!

Most teams don't take Tennessee serious any longer. So for any Tennessee fan to look down on another team, just shows how ignorant some of our fans truly are.

Agree, but, I bet, including me, Vol fans are wooried big time about vandy this year, yeas, we can talk about history, screw that, the latest history is vandy beat us last year, and if they beat us again, well, I will be sad, but move on with my daughters and our life, Be pissed though,

I hate to say it but if CBJ allows a loss to vandy, he better get his stuff in gear. Fans will hold him on a very tight leash. And honestly, rightfully so.

What player or coach has made a statement that gives you the impression they are not taking vandy seriously?

Wait, wait, wait...

you think what the FANS Do has ANY bearing what so ever?

If you do.. all I have to say is WOW...

Where in this thread has anybody tried to equate what fans think to the outcome?

Unfortunately that is the state of our program right now and there is no excuse for it.

I acknowledge that they could beat us, but I sure as hell don't take them seriously[/QUOTE

This is what's up right here. I don't take Vanderbilt seriously because before I knew what it meant to be a Tennessee Vol, Johnny Majors, Reggie White, and Willie Gault showed us that Vanderbilt is not to be taken seriously. I was educated about football as men like Heath Shuler, Marcus Nash, Joey Kent, Jay Graham, Peyton Manning, Peerless Price, Al Wilson, John Henderson, Deon Grant, Tee Martin, Will Overstreet, Phil Fulmer with Cut and the Chief, along with many others were showing me that Vanderbilt is not to be taken seriously. If every football game for the rest of my life ends with Vanderbilt having scored more points than UT, I will still not take Vanderbilt seriously because they are Vanderbilt, and I am from Tennessee. I don't take Vanderbilt seriously because they say, "Anchordown," and they like it. I don't take Vanderbilt seriously because their coach is an idiot. I don't take Vanderbilt seriously because they gang raped an unconscious girl. Print this and hang it in the locker room Franklin. We are Tennessee, and you are Vanderbilt. We are superior in every way, and we will never take Vanderbilt seriously.

Realistically what'd you hope for? I mean I thought it'd be a miracle for us to get to 6-6 this year. I don't think there's any excuse for giving up 444 rushing yards in any game, but that's the depth and talent we have right now. If we get to 6-6 CBJ did his job. If we win a bowl game he really did his job.

this.

If Vandie beat UT for 10 years straight I still wouldn't take them seriously. If they beat UT 65 of the next 70 games I may consider. Its not a rivalry. In no way shape form or fashion is Vandie a rival. We suck and they are "okay". Being "okay" is slightly better than sucking. I would say if they don't win, the joke is on them. If UT wins it will be an I told ya so situation.

They better when this year. It will likely be the last real chance they will have for the next 20-30 years.

Cause it's Vandy.......so tired of that rationale for declaring a victory

What's wrong with it? You can't just show up to the party late, have a couple above average seasons and expect to be revered as an sec elite. They are certainly capable of beating us this year just like last year, but their fans are short-sighted...they have no respect for or knowledge of the history of their place among the marquee sec names. They have to prove that they're not "just vandy" having a run before a lot of us will evn really acknowledge their persistent nagging about sec greatness.

^^^ This is Volnation in a nutshell!

Oregon: "They haven't played a D like UT's. We'll be fine!"

Mizzou: "Look at their joke of a schedule. They haven't played any one."

Auburn: See Mizzou from above.

Yeah, let's wait until after the game to take an opponent seriously. :ermm:

I think it is a MUST win for CBJ to consider year 1 successful. If we loose to Vandy again this year, I think it brings serious doubt into next year. The victory over USCe was great win, but it encompasses 1 game, not a season. Year 2 is really no easier schedule wise. We take a trip to Oklahoma and pick up Ole Miss instead of Auburn. I realize Oklahoma is not Oregon, but it will a true road test. If we lose to Vandy, we will be viewed NATIONWIDE as cellar dwellers in the SEC East along with KY and that can be backed up by 2 YEARS of football, not opinion.
We MUST beat VANDY. GBO!

Bingo King! I mean anything is possible...IE the Kentucky 3rd string WR/QB that out-dueled Doolander & Wilcox

Hmm, that's interesting. Wilcox's D allowed UK 217 total yards with a 3.6 per rush avg, 10 pts, and was on the field for 36 minutes... and you blame him for losing that game? I'd say it had more to do with the O that produced only 7 pts and 276 yds of O against the #10 D in the SEC that year. UK avg'd giving up 30 ppg against the SEC that year.... and 414 yds of O.

Seems Wilcox dueled just fine. Dooley had lost the team and Bray became its "soul"...

I bet UGA and UF fans said they did not take Vandy seriously on their sites b4 the beating began as well. After last years embarrassment, I hope the players look at them as a tough out.
