not taking Vandy seriously

But as posted elsewhere, 24 of vandy's points, 3 TDs and 1 FG, came on drives that started at the Fla 22 or closer thanks to 3 ints and a fumble from Florida. Give them credit for cashing in, but the offense didn't even gain 200 yards...Florida gave the game away.

Also, vandy is only 86th in the country running the ball and starting their backup QB after an injury.

We match up very well with them.

Remember Bandit, common sense is not allowed on VN :)

This is the most pathetic thing I've read in a long time! If UT is truly trying to figure out HOW to match up with Vandy, it's time blow the f**ker up and start from scratch.

"UT trying to match up with vandy"

No one said we were "trying" to match up, it's just a statement of my opinion

Newsflash...a lot of posters on here think we are going to lose to them. The specific post I responded to was going on about how they scored 34 on Florida. I was just pointing out that Florida spotted them most of those points.

It truly is pathetic we are talking about how to beat vandy I will grant you that. But let's not ignore that they have been to bowls two years in a row and we have not. Right now, pathetic or not, they arguably are better than us.

As for "blowing it up and starting over'. No thanks, Kiffin did that and then Dooley did it again. we have been "blown up" enough. It's time to put the pieces back together...one brick at a time.

I promise you, had UT beaten UGA and UF with Vandy losing to UGA and UF the transitive property would be in full effect on here.

Much different Uga and UF than we played, but who cares...it's very true that the transitive property means almost nothing in football. If it did, then "UT beats USC" plus "USC beats Missouri" would equal "UT beats Missouri".

Clearly bogus whether vandy beat uga or UF or not.

I am VERY concerned about Vandy. The defense and defensive coaches have laid an egg in each of the last 3 games. Vandy is not a very talented team... but I am not sure how talented a team has to be to beat this D and DC in the run game.

AGREE 100%. I DON'T THINK VANDY'S OFFENSE IS AWESOME I JUST THINK OUR DEFENSE IS SLOW AND PROBABLY SOME INJURIES FACTOR INTO THAT. I'VE NEVER SEEN A SLOWER DEFENSE THAN WE HAD LAST YEAR AND THERE ARE ONLY A HANDFUL OF "GREAT PLAYERS" ON OUR DEFENSE. THE REST ARE 2* OR 3* GUYS THAT SHOULDN'T BE STARTING FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE. THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE IS BECAUSE OF THE "DOOLEY RECRUITING"....BUT I'M ALWAYS A BELIEVER AND SUPPORTER 2* OR BETTER. WE WILL FIND A WAY TO WIN THESE LAST TWO GAMES AND GO TO A BOWL AND WIN THAT GAME ALSO. I BELIEVE IN THE NEW COACHING STAFF. GO VOLS!!!!

Oh man some of you people need to get off the negative train and stop with the comparing. We will beat Vandy! We have a new coaching staff. This is not Derek "We are just not a good team" Dooley's team any more. I hated listening to anyone of his pressers as they drained the life out of me. I know those last 3 games have y'all worried, but after listening to Butch talk throughout the year, I think this team just gets it done. I think the coaches figure ways to get this done as this was their stated objective the whole year. I think our receivers and our RB have big days and I think they beat Vandy, beat Kentucky and play a bowl game. And please stop with the "we're only being realistic" crap. Stop with the "No one is allowed to criticise the coaches" BS. When they mess up, I'll be the first and loudest one to call them out! We have young boys, trying to play a man's game with teams that have had consistent coaches for years and that includes Auburn. Stop with the "They were fired from Georgia" crap. We'll know in a year if Jancek is the guy (The 97 Vols gave up 407 yards rushing to Nebraska in a bowl game and look how they turned out), stop with the "They are MAC and Big East Coaches". they won against the competition they had which is more than we can say for the previous coach. I think these coaches will get it done! What we have is a bunch of players that for the past 3 years have been beaten down, had numerous position and DC, played out of position and have been under developed by a head coach that had no idea how to coach. They accept losing which is why CBJ has been harping on about "unacceptable behaviour, discipline and championship mentality" all year. Am I defending these coaches. NO WAY especially after the last 2 games! But 9-10 games into a season with players that have the mental fragility of an egg, doesn't make a season or tell you anything about the coach or their ability. And before y'all say, why not bench people and make a statement, has it occurred to you that Butch and Co might want to keep some of his better freshman players in the system for that extra year so say in 3 years when they are competing for an SEC championship they have depth rather than in a meaningless game against Vandy. Right now he's going with the horses that brung him this far and if they can't get it done, he'll do the honorable thing and put them out to pasture. Will they win a NC. Who knows, but comparing them to the waste of space, throw the team under the bus that used to coach here I think they are 100s of times better. And I think we all need to settle for a little while and enjoy the next year as it's going to be fun being a VOL again.

Spot on. I enjoy being a Vol fan. IMHO, CBJ & Co. are going to put a beating on Vandy - a statement beating.

Not one bit of Tennessee's history will matter in two weeks. Not General Neyland, Not Johnny Majors, Not Phil.

The only thing that matters is this Vols squad.

Our hillbilly fans taking about how we have 300 more wins than Vandy make me sick.

History means less today in college football than it ever has. Vandy will not be intimidated. Vandy will not be scared. Those days are long gone.

If CBJ cannot get the boys ready to play, Vandy will win again and the excuses will be flying in.

Listen guys I know most of us are frustrated and with the way the program has went down hill for years.
I think we are finally on the up swing with CBJ as for his staff I'm not sure, time will tell.
I'm also not sure "hillbilly" means stupid, heck go up north we're all hillbillys up there.
I dont think we really need to look down on people that may or may not know as much about the game as we think we do.
Maybe if it makes you sick because some fans only understand wins and losses you should try to explain your thoughts without being so condescending.
Hope im not out of line it's just a thought and only my opinion.

This is not your same old Vanderbilt. They are eager to prove they belong and they would love nothing more than to knock their biggest rival out of bowl contention and embarrass us. The game us winnable, certainly...but it is by NO means a definite win.

How do you not take a Vandy team seriously who has beaten Fla and Ga in the same year?
I know they're 5-4, but still they hung 34 on Fla (who was supposed to have - at one point - one of the best defenses in the country).

Maybe because they played a seriously depleted Florida (offense and defense) and Georgia (offense) team. If UT would have caught both at the same time Candy did, we would have beat the snot out of them.

I am not saying we will blow Candy out but they are by far the worst of the SEC teams we will faced all year until Kentucky. Notice I say "we have faced", meaning we got Florida and Georgia when they were much better than when Candy faced them.

I hate to relive the Auburn experience, but we need to do the same thing to Vandy. Abandon the passing game and keep running at them. In the last 2 1/2 games we have only scored 2 offensive touchdowns. Both have been on running plays. I say we run at Vandy all game long. Vandy capitalized off of several interceptions against Florida. We can't give them the same result. We can still pass in certain situations, but if we keep driving the ball on the run, then stick to it. I believe Vandy's secondary is better than their D line.

I think we beat the hell out of them. Too much credit has been given to them this season. As long as we minimize turnovers i believe we cruise to an easy victory.

Well UF is a team in disarray, their team is got a lot of injuries and has basically given up. It's not the same UF team we played. Georgia was even more depleted than when we played them.

They have been playing decent football and if we play disciplined football we should not have too much trouble beating them. They will not be able to stop our running game. Vandy is not even in the same galaxy as the teams we have recently played.

I liked the way our run game played last week against Auburn. I dont think Vandy has the explosive players that Auburn does. That said we have to play better on coverage units. We cant give up the easy yards we did against Auburn. I think ST handed them 21 points. 34-23 looks alot better in the box score. If our players get healed up (mentally as well as physically) I think we beat Vandy 31-27.

Most fans aren't taking Vandy serious because....they're Vandy. But I can promise you the team is taking them seriously after last year's game and what is at stake.

What rock have you been under they beat the stew out of Us last year.

Can the Vandy QB scramble? If so that will be a HUGE problem.

All Vandy needs to do is get to the edge everytime and were toast we cant tackle around the end. Watch film if your Vandy pick out the weakness and do that and they will win in Neyland. We looked like crap on Saturday it was such a boring game sitting in the stands and watching Auburn make us look like a second rate college team. Trust me Franklin will be out for blood and would give his left arm to beat us in Neyland and boys as bad as I hate to say this they may just do it this year. I know Vandy is Vandy blah blah blah but Vandy is not the Vandy of years past this is no easy win, and KY on the road I'm not so sure about either we can't play on the road very good that still has to be proven.

We had better take both Vandy & KY very seriously. Nothing would make Franklin happier than to beat us two years in a row, so they will be going all out to win. I hope the bye week refreshes the players so they can give it all they've got the next two games.

will be a bad mistake.
They are playing good now a smell blood everywhere.
I wish for the Vandy game our coaches can find a way to motivate our defense to play respectable.

It sure would help our season and feel good going into a bowl game at 6/6. Assuming a win at Kentucky of course.
That would show some improvement over the last few years.

With Jones recruits coming in 2014 it would give us hope for the future.

I would have hoped for a better season this year but, it is what it is.

Go Vols.

FYI....who you personally take seriously as a fan has nothing to do with the outcome of a game.
