Nothing Against Coach Martin...

I agree. This is the third year of the football transition and I don't see us competing for SEC championship this year either. Probably a big drop off next year in BB, much like a Missouri State. Hope we're not three years off competing like in football. Suspect we need to be patient.

The football situation was an unusual occurence. I think we're going to be back sooner than people think.

We'll see about bball. I honestly don't know. Too many uncertainties right now.

But yeah, patience will become a virtue. It'll be a lot easier if Dooley shows improvement this fall.

I think we'll be pretty good this year. Prob looking at 8-4, possibly 9-3 type season. only time will tell. GBO!!!! I think the fact that CDD was able to have the recruiting class he had speaks volumes to his ability. GBO!!!

Yeah, with the dumbing down of our schedule, you could be right. Montana, Cincy, Buffalo, and Middle Tennessee gives us a good shot at that. Don't think we will compete for the championship, though. Our schedule appears like those of some other SEC brethren. I hope we don't dumb down our BB schedule, but I fear that's inevitable, too.

All we have is a collection of "ifs" and "hopes." No one in Tuscaloosa was questioning whether or not Saban could win them a title. It was a question of when. Hamilton has shown a pattern of hiring cheaply and hoping it works out. Hopefully it does....

I don't understand the comparison. If it takes $1.4MM to keep the best women's coach, you pay $1.4MM. If it takes $2.5MM to get a top tier men's coach, you...well, nevermind.

So you think it's ok that the men's BB program should pay for the women's coach salary if they are in the red? Cause that's what has happened in the past.

I would think the women's program is in the red. Should we give Pat a pay cut? Never mind, that would be a bad idea, because then we would have to fire Martin and hire a coach who makes even less.

I'll throw my two cents in on the hire. Cuonzo Martin is clearly not a splash hire. The more I read and the more tape I've watched of his teams convince me that he's a good floor coach. Obviously, the question, as it is with most coaches making this transition from mid-majors to a BCS League, is can he recruit.

As for the search committee settling, if that is indeed the list of people they talked to, that is sad. But, at the same time, I don't think the other people Tennessee talked to should be used as a way of criticizing or demeaning Coach Martin. There were other schools that saw the same thing that Tennessee saw in Martin, and what they saw is an excellent coach in the making. He has my 100% support.

Another tough concept to grasp apparently, he lost 22 games that season, the most in Missouri State history.

There's an easy solution to this. You go ahead and think the job Martin did at Missouri State was horrible because he was essentially fielding an intramural squad his first year and didn't dominate. The rest of us, who have a shred of common sense, will look at the rebuilding job he did there as impressive.

I know you have problems with reading comprehension, so I will try to make this clear for you. No one thinks Martin did a horrible job at Missouri State. He's an above average coach, I just don't think he was the best coach available, and I'm not going to make excuses for how his team did at Missouri State their first season just because he's the Vols coach now.

No one is denying they showed a big improvement from his first season, it's obvious from his record.

:eek:lol: good point ..

is there a link to the 2010 athletic budget? I can't find one online ..

It's relevant if it's a season worth remembering. I could go out and lose most of the games on the schedule with 5 scholarship players, anyone could.

You seem to be missing something fairly crucial. Having 5 scholarship players and fielding a garbage team was the reason it wasn't worth remembering. That's how acknowledging the roster limitations is relevant. I'm utterly baffled on how you seem incapable of understanding that.

I'd like to know why there where 5 scholarship. Injuries? Players quit? Failure to recruit for that year by incoming coach? Anyone know why there was only 5?

The previous coach had a high academic graduation rate, so I would say graduation.

I highly doubt the Womens BB here is in the red. I've been wrong many times before though.

they used to put the budget up on the UT sports website ... can't find it now .. I believe that Lady Vols basketball was in the red on the last budget that I saw .. I could be mistaken.

Who is that nerd looking dude coaching Butler? You think the nation would be all astir if Hammy hired that one?

I think if it is important to the University to have a good women's team, they need to get the best coach possible, and that will mean compensating her according to her market value.

I believe the same is true about the men's team.
