Nothing Against Coach Martin...

What Tennessee did in this search is the equivalent of Penske Racing spending milions and millions on R&D and equipment, then hiring a kid who won a couple of go cart races at Celebration Station to drive their car.

Here we go. You didn't hire the people I know, so I will rally my 8 loyal followers against you.

If you haven't noticed, UT doesn't care what you think and they never will.

That's fine. That just means, as in the examples of keeping the fat piece of trash running football too long and people worshipping the unethical pile of garbage that just got run, I'll be able to sit back and laugh.

As to who cares about what anyone thinks, I'm not pathetically whining about being some martyr that everyone is conspiring against. That's you.

I'm behind Coach Martin 100%, but it's very disappointing that we didn't even attempt to go after a more established/successful coach.

I'm ready for Hamilton to be gone, and I'm already becoming very annoyed with Cheek.

And it only took hat deciding it to convince you.

Why shop at a discount store when you can afford high end quality?

I'm not against Coach Martin at all.

The answer is that maybe you didn't think the difference in quality was substantial enough to pay the premium.

Yeah, but it's pretty disingenuous. Martin was left with nothing by the previous coach, whose record had worsened in his three years. Martin, on the other hand, was left with a crap hand, lost a bungch of games his first year as a result and greatly improved over the three years.

How were they greatly improved? By making the NIT? Their previous coach got replaced because he couldn't do better then the NIT.

I am happy with Martin, but if this was really the process UT went through then it is maddening. There are 10 names I would have been fine with, so it's not that my expectations were unrealistic, but you would like to think your school would make big names turn them down. I understand we don't want to be a school used by coaches for leverage at their schools, but not sure why officials couldn't see the value on making some coaches an unreal offer. UT would have sent an unmistakable message to fans, coaches, and recruits that they are serious about taking bball to next level. I would have been okay with Kruger but personally wouldn't have been my top choice. He's a great coach, but he wasn't my #1. That being said, it is frustrating to know that a coach of that caliber could have possibly been hired. Once again, I love CCM hire thus far but the stakes were too high with this hire to not throw all you can into making a splash. If the list LWS and others named was really the depth of their search, then it is an absolute outrage that makes me wonder if UT took Hyams advice and hired Doug Dickey as a consultant.JMO

Its not like Missouri State had been on a losing streak prior to Martin. The previous coach had two twenty games winning seasons and won 17 games before Martin's 11/20 season. Martin's first year at MS was a low water mark.

Then what upscale store did you want to shop at?

I'm pretty sure I've posted my list of who I wowould have called more than once, even if it changed throughout. That said,

1. Tom Crean, to see if there was any amount of money to convince him to come here.

2. Brad Stevens, ditto.

3. Turgeon

4. Anderson

5. Grant

Those would have been the first five calls I made. If any one them said no, I would have then fallen back to the B-list, which actually Marshall was on.

Care to guess how many scholarship athletes he had that season? (Hint - it was fewer than we took the court against Kansas with in 2010.)

I don't have to guess the number. The question that has not been asked is how many did CM run off and how many did he recruit for that first year, causing that number of scholarship players.

Everyone not wearing blinders knows. Why take a stroll into Brooks Brothers when you know you're only willing to pay for Aeropostale

First and only time in my life I think I will ever see a situation where those two stores can be compared.

I'd go with Martin being more Jos A. Bank though than Aeropostale.

The sad part is we have enough money to shop at BB and didn't even check in to see.

Unfortunately that's part of transition. See the UT football program December 2008-present.

The fact is that if they beat ISU everyone is clamoring how great of a hire this is.

haha I just went with 2 mall stores...
And I actually edited it cause I originally said that you could only afford Aeropostale. That was a lie. We can afford the custom suits from Brooks Brothers, just choose against it

I enjoy reading about people that "hope" a hire backfires, or "want to sit back and laugh" if the new UT bb or fb coach doesn't work out, so they can thump their chests in a couple of years if it doesn't. Pitiful if you ask me. Can't imagine rolling around with that selfish, backwards ass attitude.

I agree. This is the third year of the football transition and I don't see us competing for SEC championship this year either. Probably a big drop off next year in BB, much like a Missouri State. Hope we're not three years off competing like in football. Suspect we need to be patient.

Where are these people who hope the hire fails?
