Nothing but heart-healing thoughts from me

I see what you're saying. The record is an abberation. Has this team gotten any better against the better competition? The simple answer is no. We aren't gaining ground with SC or UCoon or Stanford. And we should be at this point in KJH's tenure.

So, 18-1 is an abberation but three loses in four games is not? Logic is hard. The season is far from being over. Draw conclusions then, when it will be appropriate.

That article was a nice breakdown of the true issues. How long it takes to fix them will determine the rest of the season. Hope they wake up soon. NCAA tourney will not wait.

You're saying that Kellie Harper is a proven bad hire at Tennessee when she is 19-4 and 8-2 SEC in early February of her third season? Glad I'll never be in a foxhole with you.
The record is window dressing. And the Lady Vols will get into the tournament, no doubt. Me and a relative have discussed this many times. Their is a reason CKJ was released from NC State. I’m rooting for Kellie, really I am. But I haven’t seen the separation or difference between her and Holly. Other that Kellie at least beat Bama. Holly did at least bring in top recruiting classes. Maybe Kellie needs new assistants. IDK. But my support is there because of the colors those ladies are wearing.

I agree the record is window dressing. The games that matter are the ones you get judged on.

Not like we haven't played anybody the rpi is 6 and the sos is 9. Plus there are 12 other teams in the SEC that would like to be 8 and 2 right now. I agree we have to upgrade the roster, but what Kellie has done with this one is an excellent coaching job.

I`m not gonna throw the book at Kellie i`m rooting for her to win. My beef right now is with the assistants on the recruiting. Yes we signed Pissott in 2022 but to me will need more then Pissott to stay in the top 10 going forward. If Clemson can pull in a player like Ruby Whitehorn then we should have been able to sign at a few more top players in the 2022 class.

Still love this team. Really hoping they can turn a corner here and finish SEC play strong.

The last few games have really been disappointing.

I will say, UCONN got a huge break having the Butler game cancelled. With the games we played this week we were set up for failure in Hartford. Just wasn’t going to happen.

I do feel like we have a chemistry problem but all the players seem really engaged and loving toward one another on social media. May not be as much of the issue as I’m thinking.

At this point in the season we have a bunch of players playing with nagging injuries. Could just be taking its toll. Have to hope we get rested up a bit and get back after it.

The regression in our defense and rebounding has been the biggest head scratcher. That has very little to do with Keyen so not sure what the hangup is there.

Okay, the sky is not falling. What has happened is that teams have scouted the LVs and discovered two things. We are vulnerable to ball pressure (though we actually did a bit better against Uconn) and that drawing Key away from the post opens our defense up (though the latter requires a post player who can hit from the outside). We are not a good shooting team and have built our record on defense and rebounding (i.e., effort). However, fighting against the two exposed weaknesses can wear a team down mentally and physically.

Good news, they have some time to make adjustments, particularly in relation to Key's positioning and compensating for it. I feel that Rae is going to get back to her old self by tournament time. Horston is coming on like gangbusters. That will be a great 1-2 punch. Puckett has been another bright spot in this dark period.

The team is in a bad stretch but still have all the potential to be make a tournament run. Personally, I was not too concerned about the UConn game. The important thing is righting the ship in the SEC conference.

To make it more understandable, for five years we recruited well but went further into the abyss. We had top recruiting classes but failed to be successful. We lost to teams we should have been able to beat. Instead we fell down the ranking and produced many negative results. Then came KJH, in three years she took what remained and even added a few pieces, though she has tried, to date recruitment has not produced the same 5 star results as the prior coaching staff. Although, she has seen some success with less than a top talented team. The truth is, it usually takes more than three years to reverse a program which has been allowed to go South. Is it frustrating for the fan base, of course it is. Of course it is because many of us remember the good times when the Lady Vols kicked butt and took names. However, like the hay days of many Great dynasties change for not the best, such has happened to the Lady Vols. In reality, KJH inherited a team headed South, sadly in need of major rebuilding. She has put her best foot forward and is doing well with what she has to work with. Before we give up on her, we need to give her a chance. Because of poor efforts by the prior coaching staff many recruiting pipelines have been closed. The monkey is on KJH’s back to reverse the situation and she has in many ways but not to the satisfaction of many of the Lady Vol fan base.

We had the same number of rebounds they did - 38. We didn't lose this game on the boards.
When you win games by emphasizing rebounding and defense (as evidenced by a +15 rebound margin and the best shot defense in the country), then yes, being even on the boards will lose games. Throw in poor close-outs on 3s, and the game is over. Put it this way: the Lady Vols being outrebounded is the equivalent of the Gonzaga boys shooting 30 percent.

We lost this game because they were the better team. They're more talented, athletic, faster, and more skilled. They put the Ball in the hole, and kept us from doing the same.

So the record of wins is window dressing, but of losses it's reality?

and havent beat one team that could potentially be a final four team

That's because there has not been enough time under this coach to re-establish us as a final four program. To expect her to beat FF caliber teams in her third year is unrealistic. At 19-4, we are making good progress. Why are you not satisfied with good progress? What drives you to make unreasonable demands of elite excellence by others? Do you demand (and get) that kind of elite excellence from yourself?

The record. You know “wins and losses” reading comprehension difficult or are you trying to start something for some apparent reason?

Uhhhh...... I'l try again. There are some posters here who are saying that the 18-1 start was a mirage, and that the 1-3 record in the last four games is not a mirage, and is more telling than the 18-1 start. I'm trying to make the point that is logically inconsistent. I hope this helps.

I think that the team has been suffering from road fatigue since the Vanderbilt game. Seven of the last nine games have been road games and we've won the two we played at home and 4 and 3 on the road. We played a very bad game at Vandy but won by 14 because of their poor shooting. It wasn't our defense either they had as many open looks as UConn yesterday just couldn't make them like UConn. Next two games at home are huge we need to be 21 and 4 when we go on the road again. Team has time to cure a lot of problem in the next several days. I'll be interested to see how we come out against Missouri defense has to be a lot better cause we can't always depend on our offense. We have to get back to dominating the boards everyone has to step up and I think this team will.
I think there is a level of emotional fatigue as well. Lots of close games, bunches of come from behind victories, all of a sudden top five, projected 1 seed, national COY talk. RAe out, Rae in, Key out, Key in Kenyon out, out.
If I were Kellie, dangerous territory I know, I would reset the season. We are now 0-0. Practices would be in small segments with each kid understanding and verbalizing what they need to focus on/accomplish in each segment. Same with games. We need to win the time from the tip off to the first media time out. In that five minutes our goal is to have no more than 2 TOs and Key should touch the ball in the paint at least three times etc.
I just find small, easily understood goals stave off being overwhelmed and if you get only one turnover and Key got the ball three times and made two buckets then you have some immediate confidence. If you don’t reach your goal, you’ve got another five minute segment to try again.
I’m certainly no coach but I have used this process in project management.
