Nothing but heart-healing thoughts from me

Here we go again with the hand-wringing and teeth gnashing over Kellie's hiring. It's as idiotic now as it always has been. Kellie was hired as UT WCBB head coach. Period. She's going to be the coach as long as she doesn't fail. Period. She deserves a chance to prove to us that she can meet expectations. Not giving her that chance is stupid and counterproductive to the program. She's the coach for the forseeable future, and if it bothers you so much, tough s##t. Stop moaning and whining about it.

If putting the two questions side by side, I would hedge that being a player under CPS was more of a factor than her taking MO State to the sweet 16. Once.

Picture me slapping my forehead with the palm of my hand. If that were true then Kara Lawson would have gotten the job, neh?

You asked, I answered. You just don’t agree with it. Why didn’t Kara get the job? Probably lack of HC experience would be my guess if Fulmer placed the resumes side by side. And either way, more than likely, Fulmer was looking for a former Vol to be the HC. Taking MO State to a sweet 16 appearance isn’t why she was hired. Baranczyk at OU was 11-6 versus Kelli. At a mid major in the same conference. Fulmer never looked at her. She took over from Coale, sitting at 20-3, with the same players Coale couldn’t win with the past couple of years. Yeah, I know, it’s OU in a weak conference story. But coaches either coach or they can’t. Jury still out on kelli. But the notion that Fulmer hired Kelli based on taking a G5 program to the sweet 16 isn’t credible in my humble opinion.

Yes, here we go again, almost like clockwork. In November we had this discussion, started by darth, with trolls and people I’ve never seen post here before, jumping in to join the discussion. In January, someone went on the attack by deciding to question why Kellie’s husband is an Assistant Coach, that was short lived. (It was started after a win.) Now, here we are again, same discussion, some of the same people. This may have been started by jeff, who along with someone called spook only show up if we lose a game, or darth, usually to lure out people who will take the opportunity to say, I really wanted kara, who is a person who had never Ever been a college Head Coach Anywhere before.

Kellie was also honored with the Coach of the Year award right before she came here, not just the conference award, the National award. There are so many outstanding things Kellie has done, but why should I list them again? Afterall, someone will start this discussion again next month.

20-4

I am just a casual observer who chimes in every now and then. I respect the program CPS built. It’s nice for CKH to be honored by peers as COY. I am pulling for her to be successful. But COY at MO State isn’t gonna buy wins at TN. Or anywhere else. She deserves a chance to show if she has it to continue to be the HC at TN. In the end, it’s up to her.

Kellie is one of only two people ever to take teams from four different schools to the NCAA Tournament. That’s pretty successful, and impressive.

Her first year here, Kellie was hired a month or so before signing day, she still got recruits who are playing now for us. The second year covid restricted face to face visits, yet she recruited a fine Freshman class which has two playing this year as Freshmen. This is her third year, and the team was ranked #4 in the country for awhile. No one expected us to do this well, after the graduation of Rennia Davis and the injury of Rae Burrell.

She doesn’t need to ‘buy’ wins, she and her staff, and the Team earn them, 20 wins so far this year.

Weak argument. Remember, it’s not what you did yesterday but what you do today. She’s received COY and has taken 4 teams to the dance. Currently 20-4. But.....no championship. That’s the goal, correct?

@mcannon1 is not a sunshine pumper, rickster...but I know his intentions are honorable and his blood is orange (and light blue)

I just have a hard time believing that based on the Nega likes he has given in the past. Some really hateful things were said that he liked.

As far as the sunshine pumper remark goes, that’s just another Nega belittling term they use like blue hair, water carrier, etc…..

That along with the alum status and the factor of timing.

Yes, any program would like to hire a successful coach of their own tribe of players and coaching tree. But you are not mentioning that Kellie Jolly was an extremely successful player - a three time national champion PG (read: leader). That is a resume enhancer for her for any job she applies for, and we are the fan base that is deriving benefit from those terrific qualifications of leadership and knowledge of what a championship program looks like.

So was Holly. No pretty sure I used herself as an example of where the dynamic of the team needs to start on the post where you asked what would I change. Said recruit a player like herself who is table setter, leader on both sides of court or Kara Lawson type.

"Kelley takes over the backcourt/Williams help. Recruit a PG general and use Kara Lawson as everything I'm looking for. Or even a Kelley Jolly.... dont' be great but be consistent each night. More importantly command the court on both ends"

Kara Lawson is another one like Kellie - a championship winning PG for Tennessee. Obviously, that was a resume enhancer for her to get the job at Duke, just as it was for Kellie here, just as it would be for any coach applying for any job nationwide.

Do you think Miles is not the table setter she needs going forward?

No, she needs to secure Jaloni Cambridge as an area of need, Top player in the state and #2 in the Class of 24. Miles so far is less than 3 points and 3 assist per game. Kara was also a national name, coming from the Celtics, TV and WNBA. Different paths so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I was intrigued by Kara simply for the fact players knew her vs. Hapers path. Again, I'm not advocating for anything other than Tennessee being successful my take is we are winning the games we are supposed to be winning, losing games we are not supposed to and not competitive in the games that matter. We may view those games in the order differently.

So, Kellie's fate at Tennessee hinges on recruiting one player? Is it over for her here if she doesn't land Cambridge? Or do you mean she needs to land someone like her?

Miles is a freshman. Her numbers are freshman numbers. Freshmen learn and grow. What is the reason you think Miles cannot be the Kellie Jolly-like table setter we need?

Everyone loses some games they "are not supposed to lose." Correct? I mean, EVERYONE. And, as you point out, we are winning the vast majority of games we are "supposed" to win. Which in my opinion, is not something to take lightly.

As to games with the big girls - we defeated SC in year two and played a competitive game against UConn in year two, and played a competitive game against Stanford in year three, but got blown out by UConn in year three. To say we haven't been competitive in the games that matter most is not quite true.

You do understand that re-building a program takes time - years? We are 20-4 in year three and with five games to go in the regular season still have a chance to win a share of an SEC championship, as well as realistic opportunities to make serious noise in the SEC and national tournaments.

Our over-arching goal is to get back to being a perennial final four power and win some championships. IMO, we are gaining on that goal nicely in year three. Kellie should keep a firm hold on the tiller where and keep the bow headed in the same direction for the forseeable future and totally ignore negavols, legions of the miserable, and those who have unrealistic expectations of what it takes to rebuild a moribund program.

No that is two years away. To me she needs to win big games now or two years from now it won't matter. That is her fate, win the games you're supposed to and start winning the games that matter. To me this team is a Sweet 16 team, anything less than that is underachieving anything over is overachieving. I hope they cut down the nets and hang a banner as a fan.

Landing Cambridge would be her biggest win in recruiting and would translate on the court. She needs to land her, she's had 4+ years of relationship building and games to show Jaloni. If she loses her to an out of state rival - Uconn, USC etc then that is a bad sign moving forward. Best PG to come through the state since Dangerfield who ended up at UConn.

If she doesn't win big games for two years, and then starts winning them, it WILL matter. A lot.

How is it she's had 4+ years to build a relationship with Jaloni, but is less than three years on the job? If she finds a PG just as good as Jaloni from another state, what difference would it make?

We agree, best win is vs. #2 USC in year two. We agree everyone losses games they are not supposed to. Guess where we don't agree is that fan can disagree on the trajectory of the team based on the things I said, win the games you're supposed to win, start winning the games that matter. We can agree to disagree on how we view this team, and that's fine because neither need validation. Easy out is anything other than pollyanna is negavols, legions of the miserable etc as you stated.

You ask alot of questions to only ask more questions, where do you believe this team is destined to be in say year 4 and 5? And what is expectation this year? Are we rebuilding if we are getting transfers? 8 of 14 players are Jr/Graduate players.

Jaloni will be recruited for another 1+year.
