Nothing but heart-healing thoughts from me

My take is we are winning the games we are supposed to be winning, losing games we are not supposed to and not competitive in the games that matter. We may view those games in the order differently.

How closely do you follow the team? After Rae went, there goes was a common view. The LVs have won a lot of games they really were not expected to win without Rae.

You mean after her injury loss in the beginning of the season follow or lifetime follow?

So the conversation has rolled around to Derth’s sweet spot. Way to go LV fans!!!! 19-4! What a dumpster fire!! Man, talk about fair weather fans.

Man... Ya'll are STUCK on that record aren't you? The record means NOTHING if you don't have something to show for it. Again... Championships should be the goal every year. Beating a bunch of mid to lower tier teams is no big deal. We are Ofer against the top teams we've played. And they haven't been close. Maybe we can all agree that expectations for this once proud program has changed dramatically and I can move on to not giving a ****. Sounds good. It's a waste of time.

So the whole season means nothing except for one team every year. o_O Interesting. I think I will just go ahead and waste my time and enjoy the season. There is a reason so many teams play even though they know their chances are slim. Expectations haven't changed. People's memories of the past seem to have become very selective and have the Lady Vols winning every game and every championship since the old peach basket was nailed onto the wall.

Good deal.

100%. By Jeffvol's reasoning, Pat Summit only had 8 seasons that meant anything. All those other years, so pointless; why even bother?

For someone who really believes that only "championships matter," then why follow any team over the course of a long season? You should just wait for the championship game and then pick a team to support at that point.

There is a lot of truth in the saying the journey is more important than the destination. Every team starts the season with the same goal (destination) but only one makes it there. So players and coaches need to grow and learn from the journey and fans really should try to enjoy it.

Then enough to continue to say that the best win this year has been vs. TX and we won games we should win, even with her out.

That's my take too. Even when Rae was out, who did they beat that they really weren't supposed to? Maybe Texas, who is quickly dropping in the polls lately...

Weak argument. Remember, it’s not what you did yesterday but what you do today. She’s received COY and has taken 4 teams to the dance. Currently 20-4. But.....no championship. That’s the goal, correct?

How many different coaches not named Auriemma or Summitt have won national championships during the last 30 years?

Kara Lawson is another one like Kellie - a championship winning PG for Tennessee. Obviously, that was a resume enhancer for her to get the job at Duke, just as it was for Kellie here, just as it would be for any coach applying for any job nationwide.

Actually, Kara's teams never won a national title, although they were SEC champions multiple times.

We agree, best win is vs. #2 USC in year two. We agree everyone losses games they are not supposed to. Guess where we don't agree is that fan can disagree on the trajectory of the team based on the things I said, win the games you're supposed to win, start winning the games that matter. We can agree to disagree on how we view this team, and that's fine because neither need validation. Easy out is anything other than pollyanna is negavols, legions of the miserable etc as you stated.

You ask alot of questions to only ask more questions, where do you believe this team is destined to be in say year 4 and 5? And what is expectation this year? Are we rebuilding if we are getting transfers? 8 of 14 players are Jr/Graduate players.
Next year, assuming those anticipated to leave actually do leave, we will retain all key players except Rae. I think she'll be replaced at the 3 by Pissott. Horston and Key as seniors will lead the team. So we need a one and a four. I guess Puckett/Striplin/Marta can handle the four, and provide depth there. That leaves the one to shore up. Need something good from the portal there. Also need to improve depth at the five through the portal. If we can do those things, we're good next year.

I see us plundering the portal for awhile until recruiting comes around for high school players, which may be awhile. And I think that's okay if we fill needs well. There's a lot of good reason to recruit from the portal. At some point we'll get to a balance.

I think next year is more important to Kellie than this year, because Horston and Key will be seniors, and it's hard to see our roster after that.

For Kellie to really break through in recruiting, she needs to win something impressive and show conclusively she can develop and coach and win with the best of them. From my perch, that probably needs to happen either this year or next.

Agree, my stance has been we need momentum heading into the postseason because next year is the crossroads year. Believe we’re saying the same thing just packaged differently.

Yeah, but none of those twenty wins "mattered." Especially not the SEC wins.

You are absolutely correct! She owes us three championships already!

So when Kellie was hired how many coaches who had won a Nattie were available to hire? Realistically none. Subsequent to Kellie’s hiring, how many coaches who were available at the time Kellie was hired have won a Nattie (2020 and2021). Again none. So if the only measurement of success is a Nattie, who based on that standard would have been a better hire than Kellie? Exactly none.

Exactly right. Somewhat mind boggling that this "debate" keeps coming up.

…talk dirty to me madtown. Of course this perspective does little to generate hawt responses 🔥

Rickster, are you sure about that record? From reading some of these posts, I was convinced the LVs were 4-20. Hmm, seems to be a disconnect between gripes and reality.

Honestly, this debate is being driven by a small segment of posters, some of whom seem to have migrated over from the football, who seem convinced that the "most qualified" candidate (available) simply could not have been a former LV.

In their minds, they seem to believe that a whole series of knights in shining armor, Jeff Walz, Geno, Mark Few, heck Coach K and Coach Pop were calling Fulmer begging for the job., But Phil was like "Oh no, if hire a man, the blue haired mafia will have me sleeping with the fished at the bottom of the Tennessee river."
