Nothing but heart-healing thoughts from me

"Free speech" does not apply to to this forum. The moderators COULD delete any post or ban any member without explanation. We are fortunate that they don't operate in that manner. Though, quite frankly, it would be interesting if they did crack down on posters (Like the Boneyard does) for a week.

Well, the Mods here may not be as cutthroat as those at the boneyard, which I'm long ago banned from; but they'll kick people off if enough people complain! I haven't seen that Rutgers fan 'bballnut' lately and I think he got booted? Funny thing is who the hell could follow damn lousy Rutgers these days anyways? I literally got banned from the boneyard a couple of years ago for criticizing Coach Holly Warlick during her 6 game losing skid? That hag mod huskynan told me to gripe about Holly over here? LOL! They hate us over there and nitpick every little dumb thing? I still go over there and read some of the posts, but I had to use a different browser in order to not be blocked? husky nan is a tyrant!

Eh, I think Nan is pretty fair for a mod. Certainly better than Maria on The Summitt in that she will tolerate dissenting views about UConn, good and bad. Maria would shut that down real quick. Nan also doesn't seem to have issues with other teams' fans that want to talk about basketball and stay on topic, but will shut down trash talking pretty quickly...which is not unreasonable for a school specific fan message board. Just like here, the SC and UConn fans are fine until they start lecturing us about Tenn or they are looking to troll and pick a fight.

I posted my take on why Green's injury was impacting the team, and a couple of BYers jumped and started going into attacks on the VN posters. She told them to back off and reminded them that the BY and VN are the exact same site, with the only difference being that they like blue more than orange.

:)

Nice, Chuckie! Not quite what I have in mind, but still nice.
I was searching for an image of a “honey dipper” but they just had honey knobs. Honey dipper , back in the day, was a tool used to square away and empty an out house.

Sort of true, I suppose, though I still maintain that their view of Summitt's skills is fair less charitable than our (albeit begruding) view of Auriemma's skills. But even with that said, there is some truth there. One thing is certain. We once sounded more like they do now, and someday they will sound more like we do now.

Villanova defeated UConn because their starters scored 70 points. The Lady Vols starters scored 35 points when UConn defeated them. BTW, Villanova had 14 turnovers. The Lady Vols had 15 turnovers in their defeat. Maybe the LVs should try a different fruit in their turnovers, like strawberry or guava. LOL

If the AD gave a crap from the get go... we wouldn't be irrelevant now. They made TWO easy hires that would "please" the mafia. This program deserved more. Much more.

Dateline Feb. 10. After leading the Lady Vols to a 19-4 record with wins over 5 ranked opponents, Kellie Harper has been fired, as the UTAD responded to pressure from disgruntled fans who "expected more"'

Other coaching candidates reading this headline, "oh yeah, that is definitely the environment I want to go to......."

57 and 22 thus far is terrible. Why we keeping her? That is just a little over 72 percent wins.

Read my comment again. The AD took WAY too long to move on from Holly, IMO. They had an opportunity to make a statement and hire a real, big-time, coach... BUT... Fulmer hired KJH (who was fired from NCState and nowhere near qualified to run a program of UT's status). Kellie was the EASY, lazy, (Fulmer never did like to work too hard) hire to satisfy the LV Mafia. UT could've hired a MUCH more experienced, proven coach than KJH. Get it??? Now we're stuck with her (for better or worse) for the exact reasons you stated above. We'll hang on again until the bottom falls out and its "complete rebuild" time.
Hanging banners should be the expectation for this program, ALWAYS. To expect anything less is a slap in the face to all the young ladies that built it.
If you don't have the same expectations, that's fine. Maybe, instead of giving me grief, you should ask yourself why you don't have the same expectations.

Which real, big time coach? We ain't gettin' Tara, Geno or Kim.

The names that were being dropped were Wes Moore and Jeff Walz. Wes was comfortably sitting at NC. St. And being in his mid 60's, maybe he might not have been the longer term solution.

Jeff Walz never signaled any interest and would have probably had any offered matched and bettered by Louisville.

And then there was Kara Lawson. I liked Kara and if it had been my decision, she would have been the choice,. But, that would have been very high risk, high reward gamble, And Duke is currently 14-7 and 5-6 in conference. Admittedly, Kara is just in her first full season so too early to judge but, that record is not lighting the world on fire.

Kelly had just take Missouri St to the sweet 16 and had put here struggles at NCST behind her. It is not clear why she was not qualified. Lots of experience, recent success, very poised, telegenic (which does matter in this world).

I am not directing this comment at you per se but i believe when some posters complain that Phil did not hire the most qualified, their default assumption is that the "most qualified" is always going to be a man.

Would Kelly of been hired had she not been a past player?

I agree with your assessment, Madtownvol. As always, your assessment of Kellie is fair, honest and true. I wish I could say the same thing about my assessments of Kellie. Kellie is not Pat Summitt, and what woman WCBB coach is? The LV fans like myself need to accept Kellie as herself and what she can accomplish at UT. We should stop comparing Kellie to Pat.

Going back to the notorious press conference where Fulmer introduced Kelly as the new coach by repeatedly stumbling over his words and talking in ellipses, he did manage to say that Kellie knocked the interview out of the ball park. So, let's look at this. Sitting in front of you is an experienced but still relatively young coach and CPS protege, who had just taken a mid-major to the sweet 16. She is smart, charismatic, poised, has a clear vision of what the program should be and how to get there, and signals that this is her dream job to which she will be 100% committed. Why the hell would you not think she is the best candidate you can get.

Anytime you hire a coach, there are going to be multiple criteria and uncertainties, It is always a roll of the dice. When Gail G. took the Texas job, after all her success at Duke, that looked like a slam dunk, sure bet hire, It did not work out.

Whether or not Kelly proves to the right choice in the long run remains an open question but at the moment she was hired, there were a lot reasons to think she was the right one.

I understand the reasoning/hire but I'm indifferent on it even in year 3.

I'm yet to hear a press conference where AD didn't give glowing remarks about the interview and the one just hired. Again, I'm not siding against Kelley and hope she can get it going and finish strong to have equity heading into next season.

Remember that time Fulmer raved about Jeremy Pruitt, the coach he hand-picked, at his introductory press conference?

No program is ever “stuck” with a coach. Never. It’s like saying “I didn’t have any option.” There is never any situation where there is never an option. Pat Summit was thrown into the fire at UT because the HC at the time left if not mistaken. Would she have been hired had she not been a GA at the time? Maybe the chairperson of the Phys Ed department at the time (that’s who offered her the job) was lazy as well. Regardless, KJH is the HC at TN. Cutting her would only make it more difficult to hire a top coach or any coach. Commitment to excellence is easy when you’re winning. I can’t recall any sports program, at any level, that hires a coach to lose. Winning championships should be the expectation of every program but I believe it should be tempered with reality of the situation.
