Notice of Allegations Released!

Aside from the punishment that's already been doled out by the SEC, I'm hoping Bruce's philanthropic outlays and his charity work and such will be viewed by the ncaa as mitigating circumstances when it comes time to work up what they deem to be suitable punishment. As far as I know, Jim Calhoun had none of that to use as a bargaining chip and he got off quite easily.

because they may have interviewed several people who contradict things they were told by staff at tennessee.

i have no idea.

but, logic tells me if they lied about a damn bar-b-q and tried to cover that up......i wouldn't believe anything they said.
the problem tennessee has is that the ncaa is not a court of law. they don't need proof. all they have to do is believe something to be true.

i wouldn't worry about any of this anyway. if florida state can commit academic fraud across many different sports and be forced to only forfeit wins.....tennessee will probably be handed an apology from the ncaa for wasting its time.

Dude, dont be so dramatic. What, do you think he needs to be tared and feathered on the Knoxville strip? If you really think that every major program in the country doesnt do this kind of stuff, then you have some real issues.

Would that cancel out affairs in the eyes of the NCAA?

I know I'm way late to the party, but after just reading the entire NOV. Unfortunately this paints a picture of CBP running a program in violation of NCAA rules and doing everything he could to keep it hidden. And doing this to the point of lying to the NCAA when they started looking. He also had all three of his Assistant Coaches acting in cahoots with him.

I like the energy and excitement that CBP brings to the program, but IMHO this is a pretty damning set of allegations. I guess we can convince ourselves that he has turned over a new leaf, and he won't cheat and lie any more, but I don't know.

For me this is starting to feel like I did when I convinced myself that CLK was really a good guy and his sparring with the NCAA and the other coaches was entertaining.

Is the University getting a Failure to Monitor charge for Men's Basketball a Major Violation or a secondary? I'll hang up and listen.

Am I the only one who finds it semi-humorous that it gives the appearance that Farm Bureau Insurance is sponsoring the notice of allegations on the UT website?

no, i didn't say that. i actually have defended pearl and said on many occasions that basketball recruiting is a shady, shady business and there is stuff going on that is legal that is far worse than this.

my point was, to the ncaa, if an individual is willing to lie about a bar-b-q......something totally trivial and pretty insignificant and try to cover it up......then, it's hard to believe that individual about anything they may say.

Major.

Just not as damning as lack of institutional control.

I didn't see anything in the report listed as secondary.

I don't know about the other business in this post, but I was surprised that Jim Calhoun acted like he was unfairly punished for his whole deal. I mean, the dude had eight (eight!) MAJOR violations and came away with one lost scholarship for a few years, a three game suspension, and probation. He should consider himself very, very lucky.

I see what your getting at. If there was more to this than there really is though, im sure he would have spilled those beans too when this all started.

I agree. On Cowherd this morning, Gottlieb and he both stated that it now appears Calhoun either lied or witheld info from the NCAA. If that is true, and I were him, I would take my punishment and shut up about it. I think an appeal could be bad for him if that is true.

Just got a reply on twitter from Austin Ward regarding the blacked out sections in #2 and #12...Said it was normally to protect current student athletes but not a 100% sure...TIFWIW

Ausin_Ward reply to: @robbieu007 Haven't figured out why yet. Usually relates to current student-athletes

Here's to hoping he does appeal and ends up hammered.

That's more on UT itself and not Pearl, IMO. That's really the only allegation listed that names UT and not a coach specifically.

I know, I meant the allegations against Pearl. Since nothing we weren't already expecting came out, does the opinion that he won't survive it change? I hope he does, but I am starting to doubt that he will.

Interesting.

Pearl's punishment came down on Sept 11, 2010. He wasn't allowed to recruit off campus from Sept 4.

3 days later the NCAA dings him and Jones for talking with a player at the high school.

Hmmmm......
