Do you think ND is a legit team?

Indeed. Their front seven on defense is one of the best I have watched in a long time; and, their offensive line is a line that consistently grinds out drives that eat up the clock and move the ball.

Man. We couldn't be on further ends of the spectrum on this issue. I guess we are watching two very different teams.

Their offense has a hard time converting long drives into points; however, they certainly control clock and their offense often will turn bad starting field position into good ending field position.

ND is 12th in the country for highest percentage of offensive drives that consist of 10 plays or more; they are 13th in the country for percentage of drives that begin on their own side of the fifty and end inside the opponents thirty.

They are so slow. Watching the game is like watching an SEC game in slow motion.

I don't think their defense is anywhere close to Alabama or UF.

Their schedule is a super weak.

Of all the perceived detriments against ND this season, this one is the biggest bogus of all.

You have to be a total idiot to not think Notre Dame's schedule isn't tough!! If they were in the SEC this year, they would DEFINITELY BE 1 OF THE TOP 2 TEAMS!! I don't care how many teams from the SEC are ranked in the top 5, Norte Dame's schedule is tougher than anybodys in our conference. BTW....they play ZERO FBS TEAMS!!

Florida says hello.

I take it that's part of some joke

Georgia's SEC schedule:

Missouri
Vanderbilt
Tennessee
South Carolina
Kentucky
Florida
Mississippi
Auburn

Two of those teams are currently ranked. (UGA beat Florida narrowly and lost by 28 to South Carolina)

Their non-conference schedule: Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech.

Yeah, Notre Dame's schedule doesn't compare to an SEC schedule; would be lucky to be 8-4 against that murderer's row.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've seen/heard some stuff about Tennessee not being a great job -- yet that's what people were saying about Notre Dame as recently as four months ago. As a Notre Dame fan, I know what it's like to suffer through bad coaching hires. Best of luck on the search, and hopefully see you guys back in South Bend soon.

well, welcome to the board

I agree with you 100%. But the FBS thing is something most conferences do. Wofford, Ga. State, Fuhrman, Towsen, etc...can basically make their programs self sufficient from those games. They get anywhere from 800 to mill for taking that but kickin. Well worth it for those schools, and not a big ding as far as the polls go. Unless you lose like Michigan and Virginia have.

FBS are the bigger conference teams (SEC, Big 12, ACC, Pac-12, Mountain West, WAC, etc)

FCS are teams like Furman, Appy State, etc

ND is going to find out what the SEC is all about come Jan.

There is a reason that the SEC has been in the last 6 National Championships, oh and won them all. The Irish will be prob a double digit dog to whoever they play, Vegas is not in the business of losing money, because they know that the Irish have been incredibly lucky to be where they are and are going to find out just like Michigan did at the start of the season just how mediocre they really are.

I will not fantasize that ND has some sort of explosive offense. Hell, they have won some ugly games. I remember two teams in the SEC that won some ugly games during this BCS era. Tennessee/Arkansas game, Bama/Tennessee? TN should have won that game and Bama went on to win the NC. Here is the proof in the pudding. When ND was down, they didn't give up. I will agree that the SEC, collectively, has the best teams in the country, but to say ND couldn't survive is BS. Who knows how they would fare? I know people were saying Texas A&M would get killed this year and they have proved everyone wrong. I know Golson is no Manziel but not even Tebow or Newton was a Manziel as a redshirt freshman or otherwise. This kid is the shiznittle bam snip snap snap! If ND gets embarrassed come January, I will be the first ND fan to agree with everyone on this message board. Given that no team from the SEC has played ND this year, I find some assumptions to be conference ego rhetoric. Most of these claims, at this moment, are completely unfounded. That is why they play the game. Now, with that said, if ND wins, please don't be THAT person that says, "Bama/Georgia had a bad day or the refs love ND or if Manti Te'o would have been fed before the game, he would not have eaten the starting QB." If Bama/Georgia loses, it is a given, they had a bad day.

On another note...I really want to see Gruden in Orange! This guy gets football and to say anything otherwise is hogwash. He will be an incredible fit for a program that deserves to return to greatness. I think the first year will be awesome with 17 projected returning starters and recruiting will massively improve overnight. The Vols will have kids eyeing this program, who 2 weeks ago, that never gave Tennessee a second thought. I believe Hart is an idiot if he is not courting Gruden. Guys like Gruden want to be catered to and courted. JG knows what TN is about, so, all you have to do is make him realize that he can't live without TN and TN can't live without him. Hart has to place an emphasis on the later because that is what JG wants to hear.

Great thread guys.

I would switch schedules with them any day of the week.

I am not sure what win you are impressed with.

Then you're an idiot.

They've run the table beating more top 25 teams than either Bama or Georgia. Their game is built around grinding games out and controlling other teams. They aren't going to blow out everyone, but it takes a solid team to go 12-0 with their schedule.

Notre Dame has a better shot of winning the title over the SEC than any team yet in this streak. If you can't accept that you're clueless.

They were in just as bad of shape as us over the past few years, maybe worse, and now they are playing in the NC. As much as I dislike Fighting Irish it gives me hope. This goes to show what hiring the right coach can do for a program. It may not come quite as fast for us because we are in the SEC but with our tradition, resources and a good hire at head coach we can become national championship contenders once more.[/QU Been done and said-(bama and saban) (mayer-florida)

I'll take Nick Saban with a month or better to prepare for a team than any one. Granted, Alabama has to get passed UGA first.

I agree. Riddick is not usually going to outrun defenses in a race to the endzone. Wood might; Atkinson will. However, their gameplan does not depend on explosive plays; it depends on them getting 3-4 yards a pop up, consistently up the middle. Their offensive line can produce that against anyone in the country.

I don't think their defense is anywhere close to Alabama or UF.

Their front seven is the best I've seen in quite some time; their secondary is slow. However, they do not give opposing QBs a lot of time, and that helps their secondary. If ND plays Alabama, they will force Alabama to win the game through the air. The advantage goes to ND in that situation.

Their schedule is a super weak.

Negative.

Notre Dame has one distinct advantage over us: Their three biggest rivals are NOT Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

AND they have more money than GOD!!

Like Bammer, look at the money they went through until they landed on this coach. UT aluminums have the jack, they just will NOT spend it like some major programs. If Jim Oilman hires Gruden, it will be for the Browns. :yahoo:

When you play mostly sh**** teams it's probably easy to turn things around faster.

ND's schedule wasn't chopped liver. But, I think UT might have gone 7-5 with that schedule. ND's schedule is a traditional schedule. Much like our own. When their yearly rivals are down, their schedule is easier. MSU, Mich, Purdue, and BYU are all down. Stanford is solid. But Boston College and Pitt both suck.

Hell, they beat everyone on the schedule. It wasn't pretty sometimes. But they did it. Can't expect much more. We did the same thing in 98'. :peace2:
