Now Comes The Fun Part.

actually, UT went of as a 7.5 point favorite.... I imagine that line will change a lot, but that's where the "smart money" started.

mm

USA today has it opening at 6.5 and standing at 6 now, although I don't know what it has done in between. Anyway, judging from the mood of this board, it appears bettors have a bit more confidence in the orange than fans.

I have confidence that we have more ability than UK, just not that it will be the best deployed.

I'm not sure I'm sold on that. Kentucky has, from what I've seen, the 2 best players in the conference. Tennessee goes about 8 deep with talented, athletic guys. Is 8 good better than 2 great?

Meeks isn't one of the top two players in the conference. Patterson is, but they use him the least. Meeks is the beneficiary of tons of shots due to lack of offensive options. Patterson is certainly a monster, but can be defended because he's only 6'8".

I like our first 8 much better, but like their head guy better in a tactical sense.

I disagree with your assessment of Meeks, but any way I look at it, they have an advantage at 1 & 2, we should at 3-8. They are contrasting styles and philosophies, and I don't really have a feel for what the result will be.

I'd take tyler in any conference open draft way over Meeks. I'd also take several others ahead of him.

seriously, this team doesn't have anyone, save Tyler, that it has to have to win. We've proven it over and over.

IMO,
If Chism is on the bench in the first half with fouls, it's a UT loss.

If Patterson is on the bench in the first half with foul trouble, it's a UK loss.

If they both stay out of trouble (or both get in trouble), it should be a good game.

we replace Chism a whole lot better than they replace Patterson.

That said, if we hard switch every screen that Patterson and Stevenson set, not only will we have huge foul issues, those two will score 70 between them.

As I said, I disagree. Taking nothing away from Smith--he'd probably be my third choice--but he is a 6'7", 215 lb. in-the-paint player, which means he is going to have matchup problems, and I don't think his size and style allow him to take over a game the way a big monster on the blocks or a guard with the ball in his hands all the time can.

Meeks does get a lot of shots, but he's also shooting 46% when he takes them, and almost 42% from 3. He's a 6'4" guard who can handle and drive as well as shoot jumpshots. On top of that, he's very athletic, and he flat knows how to score: he's hung 30+ on opponents 25% of the time this year, and been held to less than 17 only twice. I'm still ranking him no worse than 2nd.

Should be a great game but rest assured, you will be yelling at this team at some point tonight. I take them for what they are and drink the rest away. Prost!!

I don't have a bad feeling. We might lose, but I'm confident that we're walking onto the floor with the better group of players.
Well, I'm glad you're optimistic. I just want to see the Vols play solid basketball for the whole game. They do that and I'm good....win or lose.

that's just fantasy.
Well yeah, but it's MY fantasy, so let me have it. I'm just saying I want to see some improvement in the areas that need it. I want to see more free throws made. I want to see some kind of thought before just launching 3's with 24 seconds left on the shot clock. I want to see them play hard before the half and at the start the second half. I want to see someone in the lane challenging shots instead of leaving wide open lanes to the basket. I want to see a defender somewhere remotely close to that seemingly always open 3 point shooter. I want to see them force more turnovers....it goes on and on.

I will say that I think they took a decent step beating Georgia in their gym. Even though it was just UGA, it was an away game and they were down in the second half. We'll see I guess.

It sounds like you might be better off watching Duke, or perhaps UCLA.

I wish that were the determining factor in who wins.

I'd rather have the better team unit.

I think our team unit is fine, just plays no D and is totally discombobulated on the offensive end. Great combo.

Honestly, it's a testament to our talent that we've won what we have thus far.
