Now that we've seen Dobbs...

Dobbs in the short time he played looked better than Worley has all year IMO. Any speculation yet as to why Dobbs got the nod over Ferg, when all indications pointed to the other way around?

I don't think CBJ will have a choice next week. I think Worley's thumb is worse than they're saying and he'll need a couple of weeks to heal it. JMO

CBJ said ferg had a minor injury in his presser and that was why Dobbs got the nod. I think they are neck and neck and Dobbs looked really good today since his rs is burned I say stick with him.

Been hoping to see Dobbs play since this past spring. Watched his hilight footage from highschool. I shouted at the TV a few games wanting Dobbs to step in for Worley this season :) It was worth the wait, the kid has a damn laser cannon on his arm, and is always smiling when I see him at work. Looks to be a future UT star QB. CBJ, start Dobbs next weekend!!!

Here's the thing: I understand Worley was playing injured. He was really giving his all for Tennessee there at the end of the second half. Scrambling to avoid loss of yardage, smashing the guy that intercepted him - he was really trying. I was a Worley fan this season, and I have a world of respect for him. But now that Dobbs' RS has been burned, JW has a major obstruction in his way in terms of starting at QB the rest of the season, and that is this:

Josh Dobbs played better today than Worley has even when healthy.

Start Dobbs. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. It was instantly obvious that he gives our offense an edge we haven't had yet this year. Play him.

Dobbs looked good but Worley looked very good against Georgia and SC. Without him at QB we lose against SC. I agree Dobbs is probably the future but when healthy, Worley has looked pretty good. Lets see how Dobbs does in the next game.

Because nobody other than hearsay have said Riley was in fact better. They were 2a and 2b on the depth chart, so it wasn't anything more than a marginal gap anyways.

Dobbs looked great for a true freshman against the #1 team in the country, why are you so defensive about Ferguson? There's nothing that arguing on a message board can do to change the fact that Dobbs played, and played well today. I would be willing to bet that Dobbs is now ahead on the depth chart regardless after his play today.
The rule is,'The back up is always better.'
So if Fergy is the back up to Dobbs now, he must be better.
And that's just if we now have 2 broken thumbs.

Worley throws an int on bamas 15 yard line and then PASSES on at least trying to tackle the defender at the UT 20? Sportscenter called him out on it. 85 yard INT returned for 6.

Everyone is over looking the fact that both Worley and Dobbs hit receivers in the numbers today only to see the ball flop to the ground. This has to be addressed as well.

Not according to most here on Volnation. It's all Worleys fault.

it will be interesting to see how bad Worleys thumb is and if he is healthy for the next game,we all seen how well he played after Peterman put a challenge to him starting and since Dobbs redshirt is blown, will he be the starter next game?

I do hate that the redshirt was used, since so far there is no QB being took this years recruiting class,UT could very well lose 2 QBs now,Peterman since he will probably not get any more playing time and Ferguson if he thinks it is a done deal with Dobbs and he won't get any playing time and who knows, maybe Worley will transfer if he doesn't get enough playing time the rest of the year

I know that it probably want happen, but i did think that CBJ was trying to keep both the freshmen as redshirts for a reason,so this wouldn't happen?it will be interesting to see what happens now

I know...Worley has been guilty of some horrible passes, no denying it, but the dropped passes are inexcusable. Receivers could have helped Worley a lot.

Enter Dobbs, the receivers really need to step it up to help the freshman.

I agree with you. Worley has made some great throws too. Yes the receivers are going to have to start making some big catches.

Was excited when I saw both the freshman QB's warming up on the sideline right before halftime.

Was very impressed by Dobbs today.

I've been one if the people saying to just stick with Worley. But I seen today that Worley just couldn't do I with his thumb, I knew it was time to make a switch. After seeing Dobbs I was pleased. He adds another threat to run and showed that he will. That will open up this offense so much more. That being said even if the talent between him and Worley is just a small difference either way, I think the move now would be go with Dobbs. The redshirt is gone so might as well ride it out with him and get him experience. I think we can win just as much with him and it will be exciting to see him runnin also. Just gotta slide. He took a big hit today.

Was it just me or did the whole offense seem excited when Dobbs came on the field?

I seen that too. It's just something fresh I guess or the players know what he can do. Also still every time Worley drops back to throw I wanna close my eyes and I didn't feel that way with Dobbs, a kid who has never even played. I like Worley and I have been pulling for him. I appreciate all he has done for the Vols, but I'm afraid his time has ended.

I have defended Worley a lot on here as well in the hopes he'd make the transition but I just don't see it happening at this point. He got screwed by prior coaching, imo and now he's too far along to develop without someone like Cutcliffe who is simply the best.

At any rate. this*** is eye-popping:

QBR
J. Worley 8.3
J. Dobbs 51.1

QBR basically evaluates clutch plays and is a way of evaluating a QB's value for his team versus simple passing or rushing stats -- scores, 3rd down conversions etc. weigh into it, It's all about making plays that matter. 50 is 'average' (top NFL QBs often fall below that rating in games) and again we're talking about true freshman who has never seen playing time called into service against the best team in the nation. FWIW, QBR and passer rating both have about the same odds of success (between two teams, the QB with highest one will win the game ~75 percent of the time).

Adjusted QBR stats which are used in college to weigh performance against opponents aren't out yet so both Worley and Dobbs will see their Adj. QBR rise.

You can call Dobbs performance 'ok' or 'good' but given the full circumstances it's above and beyond.

**See Espn's box score.
