Verizon legal will love this idea! "yes mam, I need phone records for Jennie Doe phone number 867-5309. I issued her a citation for using her cell while driving. She has denied the allegation so I need all text, incoming and outgoing for said time period.
Do you have kids? I have 3 and that makes 3 good reasons.
So I should go back to living in the pre-cell phone era for the purpose of supporting your argument?People also didn't wear bike helmets and seat belts back then and we seemed to be fine. If you want to go back to living in the 70's and 80's let's do it. No more seat belt laws.
So I assume you never talk on the phone while driving?
Never suggested such an action. You said there were good reasons why someone needs to use their cell while driving. I said name them. You can't pull off the road if you need to use your cell?
I never said anything about going back in time.
Nice try though
So every single time you get a phone call you pull off the road before you use your phone. Likewise you never ever do anything that distracts from driving safely.
Well you are the epitome of driver safety and should get some sort of award or trophy for being so awesome.
I bet you were one of those kids that road a bike with an orange safety flag on the back.
Nope
I didn't say I pull off the road every time I answer, I said if it is extremely important, I will pull off the road and talk. If it isn't important, then I tell them I am on the road in traffic and will call them when I stop. I never make a call while driving.
Lots of people do the same thing or at least make an effort to try. If you don't think there is anything wrong with calling someone on your cell while driving, then I don't know what to say except that it's dangerous and I hope you never have an accident as a result of diverting your attention from driving to talking on the phone
Nope

So in other words, using the cell phone automatically increases your safety awareness and behaviors.
Thank you.
I don't know how you twisted my words into that BS, but it's not anything remotely close to what I meant.
With all due respect, only the dumbest SOB in the world would think it enhances safety to talk on a cell phone while driving.
Nope

I hope you just knocked on wood...It's easy. They have this thing called traffic lights. When you are stopped at a traffic light you pick up your phone and dial or send a quick text.
And for the record I haven't had an accident since I was 17 years old and THAT accident was caused by distractions with passengers in the car.
If you are like most people, I suspect there are times in your commute where you are on a sort of auto-pilot. Same road, same time, etc, you are aware and driving in your normal safe manner, but your senses aren't elevated the way they might be in a storm or if there are a lot of reckless drivers near you. But, after the phone rings, you stated you make a couple of risk based decisions from not answering up to and including pulling off the road and stopping. In other words, your situational awareness increases so you get enough information to make those decisions. Your safety awareness goes up after the phone rings and you then follow a pattern of behaviors to enhance your safety--all because you got a phone call. That said, I also recognize there are a lot of people who view their car as a means of moving their phone from place to place. For them the phone decreases their safety awareness and behaviors. Those are the people we should target with laws that are already on the books. If we do that, those who choose to act responsibly, people like yourself, can continue to do so without fear of punishment.
