Depends on how the coaches use them.
Not one Georgia TE had any receptions last night in the sugar bowl.
Chaney is known for getting his TEs involved in the passing game which is why it would make more sense for Washington to go to Tennessee than it would Georgia.
Wish Vol fans would accept that it isn't going to be a quick fix and demanding that we recruit better than the top teams is not going to make it magically happen. Recruit well, develop, play hard, embrace the underdog role. ProgressHere at UT, our administration screwed us over with bad hire after bad hire. Pruitt walked into a dumpster fire, and thus far, has done a fairly good job of righting the ship. As Vol fans, we need to recognize just how bad those hires hurt us, and have the patience to understand it's not a quick fix. The name of the game for us is progress, and I've seen it.
UGA, however, fired a good coach because they didn't think he was good enough. They hired an equivalent coach that took over a program in great shape. Kirby hasn't had to build anything. So what has he really done? He recruits good. So far, that's about it. Just like Richt, he falls short when it matters. Kirby relies on out-talenting other teams, not out-coaching them. For that reason, I think we're going to eventually catch up to them. Might be a few more years, but I believe it'll happen.
I agree you can’t look at recruiting rankings and make a generalization. The rankings don’t account for attrition or program culture. That’s why it’s incorrect to say it about uga or ut.Butch's top classes were quantity over quality. When you sign 29 recruits, you better have a Top 10 class. Also, several of the top guys that pumped up our ratings (Kongbo, Kamara, Pearson, etc) were JUCO, so they weren't here when Pruitt took over (except Kongbo for 1 year). Not to mention, Butch just recruited stars and not players that fit a specific system, so we had a bunch of square pegs that didn't fit into round holes.
In terms of recruiting classes the four prior to smart’s arrival averaged 8th. To put that in perspective UT averaged 11th for the four years before Pruitt. While there was a decent foundation he had a frosh QB 2 straight years, Chubb coming off an acl and pcl tear, and no depth on either line.
All the information he posts is right.... He is telling us what the recruits are telling our coaches. If they lie or change their mind, that does not mean that AV lied, changed his mind, or was wrong. The question is what information AV has posted in advance that turned out to be right and possibly confirms he has some insider cred. Anyone who can give a few examples will be appreciated by me at least.
I do not believe he has signed with anyone at this point. He may have signed the LOI, but was it submitted? There has to be a reason Callahan has not put in his CB as of yet.Congratulations Darnell Washington thread occupants, it's January 2nd. Today's the today we've been waiting on. I don't know how DW and his people have been able to keep his college choice a secret but I am extremely impressed with how this has played out. I hope all this was Nieds and Pruitt's idea and that Curby and the dawg fans have been catfished.
*I believe DW will let the world know tonight that he signed with Tennessee.
I just addressed this in another post, but I said that because the person I was referring to did it to uga, so I did the same and made a generalization about UT solely off of recruiting rankings. I agree that those rankings don’t take into account program culture or attrition and it’s not the best way to judge a coach. Pruitt inherited a far worse situation than Smart, but Smart’s wasn’t perfect either. The senior class was wrecked with attrition, he had a frosh QB, and the lines lacked depth. You're either BSing or seriously uninformed on the talent that Pruitt inherited. The Vols had high recruiting rankings in 2014 and 2015 that you appear to be factoring into your "average" recruiting class that Pruitt inherited. But, Pruitt only got to work with 13 guys total from those two classes, and he only worked with 2 guys for more than one year. The majority of these 13 guys were overrated by the recruiting services like Drew Richmond, Dillon Bates, and Quarte Sapp. Others like Darren Kirkland, Chance Hall, Todd Kelly, amd Kyle Phillips were already damaged goods when Pruitt arrived.
Then, the Vols recruiting dropped off significantly in 2016 and 2017, and further in 2018 when Pruitt had just a few weeks to salvage a recruiting class after helping Bama win its last NC.
By SEC standards, Pruitt inherited a weak roster with very few playmakers, weak lines, and little in the way of impact players at LB or DB.
By comparison, the roster Smart inherited was stacked. Too bad he botched one NC opportunity with that 4th and 9 fake punt and a couple of time outs in his pocket.
