I'm half Canadian, so I imagine I am more familiar with their system than most on this board. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Yes, there is waiting (on the order of a week or two, not months) for some non-critical things, but no one is turned down. I'd say it balances out in the long run, and is only slightly inferior to the type of care a middle class or higher American gets now. Of course, for the lower-middle class and poorer, it is far superior.

I fail to see how changing to Canada's system would somehow solve our problems. It would just change them. Most of out health care problems are "supply and demand" issues. It would be like creating a national "food program" and expecting everyone to get steak every night.

I have lived in Canada and I have been in both systems. There is certainly some delay involved with elective procedures (but none as severe as the media paints them). However, I can tell you first hand that no one with life threatening conditions experience delay.

For example, My grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer and received immediate, prolonged treatment - no questions asked. He lived another 5 years. Here - he might have been denied and/or would be in enormous debt.

However, I do agree that both systems are flawed - no one system is perfect. I just believe that Canada's system is better. I don't like my families well being in the hands of HMOs.

Yet you have no problem handing your life over to gov't....... sweet goodness mother superior!

And my grandfather had a crippling back ailment and wasn't seen for two weeks, the whole time in excruciating pain and bed-ridden. That's ridiculous.

Good one. Do I hate freedom for enjoying a socialized mail system?

how does Valpak = life or death? You also realize our mail service is hemorrhaging money right? But I'm sure they'll do better with medicine

I can't help it that you believe gov't is the answer for every thing.

I mean, you honestly believe gov't expansion is going to revive the economy.

Nothing personal, you people believe gov't creates wealth and can create fairness.

You need help....

:hi:

Sweeping generalizations aside, I believe that our health care system needs to improve and i think it would be a step in the right direction. If that makes me a socialist in your eyes than....who cares?

Wow, thought provoking, health care needs to improve.

You believe gov't is the tool.

You are crazy!
I care because I have to take care of people like you.

I have no problem helping people in in way that I am able.

I get frustrated when I am forced and unconstitutionally taxed and the clowns you vote for drudge away billions on non sense.

Health care = gov't can do what it wants when it wants.

Amusing. I tend not to think in black and white.

really? Your opening salvo in this thread suggests otherwise.

But heck, maybe you are one of those liberals that LG1 describes here: more nuanced and capable of understanding all of the in depth thought that must go into a decision. We boneheads just aren't on the same plane.
