Obama's Comments to the Russians

I agree with this. Right now, the immediate and urgent need in this economy is on the demand side, pure and simple.

The amount of capital sitting on the sidelines right now is staggering. To unleash it, we have to give businesses a reason to think that demand will go up.

Demand is not the only reason businesses are sitting on cash. trust me on that.

I beg to differ. The study was recently updated after Romney lashed out at it. The math is pretty simple.

Romney says his plan is revenue neutral. By cutting all rates by 20 percent, maintaining special tax treatment on investments, and eliminating the AMT, there is simply no way for the Romney plan to work and be revenue neutral without raising taxes on people making less than $200,000.

Otherwise, there is a gaping annual $86 billion hole.

So its either going to increase the deficit or taxes on the middle class go up. The math does not work out, otherwise. As noted in the update, the proposal results in a tax cut for those making over $200,000, a tax increase for those making less.

Tax Policy Center stands by Romney analysis - The Hill's On The Money

It's humorous to hear an Obama supporter referring to an $86 billion hole as gaping.

The assumption that massive cuts in the tax rates won't result in an increase in economic activity is almost equally as humorous.

I have seen nothing that makes me feel America will right it's ship. Therefore I feel the US has seen it's best days. The way the parties conduct business precludes fixing the many problems. I have seen nothing but more problems. Have you seen anything that might help? Maybe you can run in 2016.

then why give a huge partisan hack a second term? You're really just not making sense here

I'm just not sure that was the context in which he said it. I agree with bpv's point that it is very likely he meant that he could implement more stringent policies once he was reelected. But, your point is interesting.

I'm willing to offer a pass for this snce it's missile defense and the two sides have never agreed much on this. But his "you didn't build that," comment still stands as his most troubling.

President Obama Asks Medvedev for ‘Space’ on Missile Defense — ‘After My Election I Have More Flexibility’ - ABC News

SEOUL, South Korea — At the tail end of his 90 minute meeting with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev Monday, President Obama said that he would have “more flexibility” to deal with controversial issues such as missile defense, but incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to give him “space.”

The exchange was picked up by microphones as reporters were let into the room for remarks by the two leaders.

The exchange:

President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.

President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…

President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.

President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

When asked to explain what President Obama meant, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications Ben Rhodes told ABC News that there is room for the U.S. and Russia to reach an accommodation, but “there is a lot of rhetoric around this issue — there always is — in both countries.

A senior administration official tells ABC News: “this is a political year in which the Russians just had an election, we’re about to have a presidential and congressional elections — this is not the kind of year in which we’re going to resolve incredibly complicated issue like this. So there’s an advantage to pulling back and letting the technical experts work on this as the president has been saying.”

Pretty racist rant. Pimp, in your view, does this reflect the opinion of the Black community as a whole or just the middle class?
It reflects my view of the America/Mexico that I live in. I am not the entire middle class or black community. Would not know their feelings.

I never offered a reason for Obama to stay in office. Did not vote for him either. Won't this time. I also don't want some rich punk in there either. And that *********y vp candidate really grinds my gears. What about this current situation makes sense?

Fair enough.

If you are not a part of the middle class, I have a question for you and your kind. Do you all really care what goes on "down here"? Or do you feel that as long as the grass is finely clipped on the 18th hole then **** is allright. I have my opinion, but an answer from you would be better. There are serious problems down here. They are not being addressed (by either party). Thusly, they are compounding daily, like so much interest.

Mad? Nah. But if it is such ammunition, why is it not being employed? What am supposed to be fearful of. Republicans can't scare me anymore. I just get high and let them do as they please(which is hopefully make Tennessee a medical marijauna state). That whole W/Cheney group did one hell of a number on the US and world in general. It will take years to fix if a fix is even possible. Probably "Nobama's" fault as well.

puff, puff, pass

To the left hand side.

Sure feels like a recession around here. There is a group of Americans that are doing just fine however. Only they are not Americans. Nor do they speak English. Nor can they read road signs or drive in general. But they can find a job like nobody's business (and monopolize convenience stores from 5 to 7 in the morning). And multiply. Babies and adults. They are getting it from both ends, it seems (sometimes I think I am so high that I went to Jaurez with all these adult spanish speaking Mexicans right here in middle Tennessee). America's working class is no longer American. Hard to sustain economic growth in America when Americans are not a part of the economy. How long can the US bleed before "we" die? -- But to your original question, unless we make a DRAMATIC change in immigration policies and hiring practices this trend will continue. As planned.

If it talks like a zero net taxpayer, walks like a zero net taxpayer, and brags about smoking dope like a zero net taxpayer, chances are......

A lot of zero net folks work hard and keep up their families, but when you are zero net, how do you get anything stolen out of your pockets? Tell me, how did those tax rebates during the W years go for ya? I wouldn't know, I DIDN'T GET ONE!

Obamacare will not be repealed. It may be tweaked to death but it will not be repealed. As bad as the bill is there are some good things in it that will now be political suicide to do away with.

When Romney and the GOP says repeal and replace doesn't that tell you it all is not going away?

They use to use the word repeal, now they all use repeal and replace.

It's been repeal and replace since day one. The Repubs suggested a list of about 7 or 8 things that they wanted done before a HUGE bill was passed that contained a 500 billion dollar a year tax increase. Those 7 or 8 things covered all the items you are talking about such as pre-existing conditions, keeping dependents on HC until 26, etc. One of the big ones was DEREGULATION of the insurance industry to allow them to cross state lines. Instant drop in costs. But no, we had to pass that bill so that we could see what was in it. Kinda like opening the garbage can in the summer on Thursday that you put shrimp shells in on Saturday. Makes you want to puke.

only claims you have made are that W stole from you, is responsible for this country's current condition and that you celebrated when Obama won. What are we to infer from that?

And that he stays high while he and his wife work. Which is illegal in most states.

I would put myself in the middle class based on income, work level(middle management) and neighborhood. However, we tend to interact with folks from top to bottom. And I don't mean we just see people in passing, but interact in meaningful ways, so we get a lot of info from all sides. I can say this, everyone is concerned. Nobody wants to take a risk and are working toward keeping things as stable for themselves as they can. My CEO cousin wants to expand--he has to expand to keep earning the profits demanded by his shareholders, but he won't until he knows exactly how the ACA is really going to affect the bottom line. Our friends on public assistance or unemployment want to get off and get a real job, but won't risk it until they can find a job that pays more than $15 an hour and has health benefits because that is what they get from the government. Right now no one knows what to do, so everyone is holding what they have. Until we get some sort of confidence back we're stuck.

so you think all middle-class families are the country club types? What a ridiculous assumption

The problem is that they ARE being addressed. Both parties are experts in creating unintended consequences, so whenever they address these issues they exacerbate the situation.

I like that "zero net" moniker. May change my screen name :) . We did not get any rebate from W. Thanks for asking though.

The amount of capital sitting on the sidelines right now is staggering. To unleash it, we have to give businesses a reason to think that demand will go up.

That is asinine. Businesses are not going to unleash capital for an artificial increase in demand created by entitlements. Businesses will let go of their capital when they see that they can invest it in THEIR businesses without fear of the Feds taking an ever increasing percentage of it in taxes. People are not made solvent by the government, people are made solvent by employment. Employment won't happen until business costs are stabilized and will increase when those stabilized costs are decreased. When you tax a business, that tax gets passed on to the consumer in the form of increased cost which drives down demand. When taxes on businesses decrease, costs are stabilized and then driven down by increases in supply and competition thereby increasing demand. My cycle is self sustaining, yours only works until the government's (someone else's money) runs out.

If middle income families are losing income at this rate, why would they vote for Romney, who is going to increase their taxes, so that they have even less money?

?And why would industry and business support that, when Romney's approach would leave such families with less money to buy goods and services

We need more money in the pockets of such families, and yes, we need to pay for that by raising taxes on the wealthiest. It will not kill jobs. It will not result in less growth. It will result in more because it will spur demand for products and get the economy moving again.
You got some facts to back up those claims? Or are you just full of hot air like what's keeping the roof up at the DNC?

The medium is unabated free enterprise. Don't favor any group and people will pursue their own best interests, resulting in greater wealth for everyone.

Does this translate to "just leave things alone and they will find a balance" vs the government having to "fix" things?

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Business is so scared of Obama, when he got elected, they took their ball and went home. He's toxic for the whole outlook of the country and general mood. He needs to be removed for the good of the country as a whole.
