Offensive Coordinator candidates

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.”
I don’t know how anybody could see that and not think it has to be a joke.
It came through her Twitter feed. We got a good laugh at her expense.

A little disappointing we are not hearing more news/updates on the OC Search or TE Coach if Halzle is promoted to OC.

I know it’s only been a little over a week. But little to no news or updates. There was only like 2 articles on candidates.

Same with portal news. Just way too quiet. All these beat reporters and VIP sites yet no news. And no updates on here either, just very frustrating

Not to be contrarian but I think it’s good that Heupel and company can go about their business without someone leaking something ever 12 hours

The portal just opened. Things don’t happen at warp speed. There has to be visits set up and I am sure these guys in the portal are getting bombbarded with calls. The coaches are focused on Clemson as they should be. An OC hire is not extremely detrimental right this second. There is nothing frustrating about any of this. Relax.

Joey got next. We'll get to keep him for 2-3 yrs or so before someone gives him a HC shot somewhere

Firstly, I agree it's an enigma.. cause Good Programs and Culture are usually tight lipped... meanwhile bad probably programs have loose lips and leaks.

But as a fan, more access and information is always wanted.

Completely understand the timing of it only being a little over a week since coach Golesh left, and portal opening. My wish is not necessarily a rushed decision just wish we were hearing more whispers and updates.

Leads me to wonder if the guy he's interested is on playoff team.

I think if his plan all along was to promote JH, he would have done it right away. He may have that in his back pocket, but he is considering other options imo.
CJH is waiting for the bowl game progress report card on Bazooka Joe to determine if JH has done enough to earn that bump. JMHO

We were kept in the dark on CJHs hire, so I for one can wait as long as the coach and Mr. White need to make the right hire for OC at Thee University of Tennessee.

I do wonder if the choice was Promote Halzle to QB/OC. And just hire a tight end coach he has connection to, we would have already received the announcement or rumblings.

The fact we haven't heard anything, does make me wonder if he has actual OC candidates he's interested in, or he's recieved interest from guys who want to finish bowl / playoffs.

I'm excited not so much about on field cause I think that's fairly safe with Heup in charge, but this is an opportunity to add / upgrade recruiting although I think Golesh was one of the better recruiters on staff. So important shoes to fill

Joey Halzle, that’s pretty much the list.
I'm curious. If it's going to be Halzle, why wait? Is he waiting until after signing day? after the bowl? If so, what's the upside for that?

I'd think a promotion from within would be done quickly, requires little fuss, and ends speculation about the OC. For recruiting I'd think missing an OC is worse than missing a position coach.

Yeah it seems strange that if it was Halze what’s the reason to wait. Then again if he is waiting until after the bowl game, we’ll that’s after ESD. One would think he would want an OC hire, at least on paper before then.

And I'm not sold on the idea that it's Halzle. Could Heupel go after Garrett Riley or Jeff Lebby?

Riley II is a rising star. I think he wants a head coach job soon but breaking into the SEC as an OC would be a step up for him on that path. My theory is that Heupel can't announce him because TCU is in the CFP. After Michigan..... and Max Duggan looks like Larry Bird did in the Indiana State years but Larry met a team from Michigan too... after Michigan, maybe we hear Garrett Riley is our new OC.

Second on my list is Jeff Lebby and OU is going to some Cheesy Bowl too, so I suspect that might delay that announcement.

I'm just not convinced, because of the delay, that we're promoting from within.

It’s also entirely possible Heupel wants to bring in a proven OC for Hazel to continue working under. That way in a year or 2 years Hazel is more than ready to take the reins. Maybe he’s playing the long game here.

Some are getting bombarded with calls, others...... 🤷‍♂️

The wait makes me wonder if he is going after someone coaching in the playoffs
I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully Brian Hartline, then we can shuffle coaches like Pope to TE. Kentucky was rumored to look at Hartline for OC but he wasn't interested. Maybe he knew bigger programs would come calling.
